Notes:
Bona Fide Imperial Stout is a special one off beer in collaboration with Paul Hayden and The Wine and Cheese Place. We aged our Bona Fide Imperial Stout in this single barrel of Elijah Craig 12 year. A very special project that will likely never repeat. This version of Bona Fide pours midnight black with a smooth velvety mouthfeel. Aromas of whisky, vanilla, espresso, and dark chocolate take center stage. Drink now or cellar for up to 5 years.

Lucky to get one of the 228 bottles produced by 4Hands and The Wine and Cheese Place's Barrel Program.Thanks,Mark(TWCP-New Ballas).
A-Pours out a malevolent, coal black body that supports 1 quickly dying, medium tawny hued, inch of loose foam.Thin streaky lacing left behind on the glass.
S-The nose opens up with sweet whiskey, toasted coconut, bold espresso, milk chocolate,dark/burnt caramel and an earthy ash-like note to finish.
T-More sweet whiskey, rich milk chocolate, espresso, caramel, toast and creamy vanilla with an even more pronounced vanilla character as it warms.
M-Medium/full bodied stout with a roasted and earthy but silky smooth feel.Possesses moderate bitterness and a deceptively easy finish.
O-Really pleased to have a chance to try this.I commend The Wine And Cheese place for it's Barrel Program and commitment to local(St.Louis area)breweries.

Aged in a Elijah Craig Barrel
Date filled: 02-13-2012
Date bottled: 10-01-2012
Bottles produced: 228
Poured into a tulip glass from a 22oz bottle.
Pours an oily rich dark dark color with a thin 0.25 inch head that is nice and tan and dense. It recedes pretty quickly down to a thin film. Pitch black with slight garnet edges when held to the light.
Wow. Bourbon bomb! I love bourbon and stouts so I love this aroma. It is very sweet for sure though. Nice rich vanillas pice notes with some good chocolate sweetness and some molasses. Some boozy heat is perceived. As the beer warms the chocolaty sweetness and slight coffee bitterness work together with the Bourbon and vanilla notes quite well.
Beer starts off with some bitter coffee. Then hidden from the back comes a nice punch of caramel, molasses, dates and Bourbon sweetness. Along with some vanilla spice. Surprisingly the coffee is still there and doesn't get overwhelmed by the Bourbon sweetness. Very roast and surprisingly there is still some hop notes in there as well that might need to die down a little bit. Still this beer is quite good and the coffee notes work wonders with the Bourbon. Mouthfeel is oily and rich. Very nice.
Overall. This beer is good. There are some hop notes that detract a bit from the bourbon and the coffee but still the roast is intense and the Bourbon heat and sweetness compliments it well.
