This beer tastes and smells like a mixture of malt liquor and diabetic hobo piss. I really wanted to like this beer. It comes from a Minnesota brewery, and they donate to good causes. They need to tweak the recipe, and/or maybe keep vagrants away from the fermenting tanks.

If it weren't for that, this would be a good beer. It looks good and has the right amount of carbonation, but it has sort of a dark corn syrupish taste and smell hidden somewhere in there that really needs to go.

Served in a Pilsner Glass.
A - Hazy Orange, decent amount of carbonation. Head pours 1 finger width and with some lacing.

S - Bread smell with some malt. A little off smell, kind of skunky.

T - Faint caramel over malted barley grains, kinda tangy, and with notes of corn. Some bitterness.

M - It's light and carbonation is balanced.

O - 50% of profits go to U.S. Military families! Awesome! But the beer is dreadful. Will probably never get again.

12 ounce bottle - $1.29 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours out a nearly clear, amber-tan body with a tallish, but short-lived, off-white head.

Smell: Some caramel and toasty barley hints are a distant second to the discordant notes of metal, half-rotted corn, and---this smells like a malt liquor!

Taste: Faint caramel over malted barley grains, moderately sweet, but right from the get-go there's this icky quality. Vegetal, kinda tangy, and with notes of corn and metal shavings. Some bitterness. Good grief, this is awful. On the label, even George Washington is left scratching his chin, wondering how they managed to f this one up so badly.

Mouthfeel: Thin-bodied. Medium carbonation.

Overall: Had low hopes for this. Then, pouring it it looked perhaps passable. Then, after one foul sniff, the crapiness was quickly confirmed. Drain pour.

12oz undated bottle. Founding Fathers Lager pours with a deep amber color and a small tan head. The head soon all but disappears despite a continual stream of rising carbonation bubbles.

M: medium-bodied, rather heavily carbonated beer.

A mix of hop flavors is matched by a balancing amount of caramel malt. In fact, the caramel malt comes to dominate after some warming. The weak aroma and flavor is followed by a short-lived but lightly tangy aftertaste.

O: inexpensive and maltier alternative to your standard American macro-lagers.

The lovely mrs. bought home a six-pack of this beer remarking that, "hey, this is new, you should try this." How nice that she thinks of me (and beer). A dark-orange color, and a 1/4" head that quickly disappears into the aether. Mild carbonation. There's not too much of a smell other than some faint melon and grass. A nice, non-aggressive maltiness (though it has some bock qualities to it) makes this a refreshing beer that I don't have to think about too much to enjoy. Other than some tangy sourness, the taste doesn't linger.

I bought a six pack for father’s day but had to drink one a couple of days before. I pour it into a goblet and it developed a half inch head that quickly disappeared into thin air; my nose detected a bit of hops, some malt and nothing else, lacing is non-existent and the mouth feel did not add to the nose, this is an ok beer to have if you are tired of Bud and entertaining a lot of people like I am doing for Father’s Day. And don’t forget folks to support your local brewery….DRINK BEER. HOG.

I think I'll give this the benefit of the doubt and review it as an Am. lager.
Slightly sweet malt, a little sulfur, and a tad of yeast. Kinda' standard.
Quick head. Amber and very clear.
Again, kinda' sweet with a heftier malt quality and something bigger than pils malt. Quick hop up front and then some of the finish for a short to moderate length finish. Slight vegetable quality.
Bigger body for style. Lots of prickly bubbles.
Overall, only okay. I appreciate the purpose and effort, but I really can't see myself getting too much of this going forward.

Appearance: Nice amber with a little white head that laces nicely. The head appears to be chased by ninjas because it's gone.

Smell: Sweet malt.

Taste: Metal and sweet malt

Mouthfeel: Thin and watery but With awesome stinging carbonation.

At least its got some taste.

From a 12 oz. bottle with no visible freshness date, marked “Latrobe, PA,” and “50% of profits go to families of military.” Vigorous pour yields an attractive amber-coppery color with lots of precipitating carbonation. One finger head fades quickly but leaves a good bit of off white lacing and a nice ring and clumps. Nose of sweetish malt, a bit artificial and maybe just a touch of off-scent like light skunk. Taste is OK, malty with hints of honey, and a rather abrupt bitter dry hoppy end. Gets rough at the end with a very subtle metallic off flavor finish. Mouth is satisfactorily wet and quenching with moderate carbonation.

Overall: A passable amber ale. The real draw here is the profits going to military families; otherwise I wouldn’t give this one a second look.

Bought it because of half the profits going to Military Families.
Poured into a pint glas and it yielded a fair head initially but it dissapaited to a Sam Adams like head in a minute or two.
Reddish/Amber color (I'm color-blind)sort of a whiskey color to me. Some carbonation that lingers.
Nose is slight with a little malt in there.
Mouth is a bit weak for me but probably just fine for the average Bud drinker what should be buying this brew.
Finish is dryish and malty.
Not a bad attempt that is a little behind Amber Bock. Will try it at some different temps and try to find on tap to see if it improves.

pours out a chill hazed dark amber colour with a respectable half inch thick head. ivory in colour, leaving some decent lace for a lager. a great looking beer in the glass. rich malty aroma...hints of caramel and toffee with a grassy, herbal hop undertone. upon tasting, a sweet caramel malty note hits the tongue and is quickly ushered away by a crisp and dry finish. bits and pieces of brown and burnt sugar can be detected as well. some delicate, yet perceptible grass and hay like hop notes provides more overall flavour than bitterness, and is not unwelcome in this brew. the overall body is fullish for a lager of this sort and the mouthfeel is on the crisp side with residual sweetness fighting too make itself known. therefore, finishes on the dry side. drinkability is ok...there is an empty, watery, "bottom dropping out" characteristic that really distracts in the overall profile.

overall this is reminiscent of a Killians or Mich Amber Bock sort of amber/red. a beer brewed with a cause in mind...50% of all profits are donated to families of the US military. a few tweaks to the recipe could go a long way to make this a more respectable tasting beer.

Poured into a 16oz Pint Glass, never thought I'd be the first to review a new beer!


Appearance - Darker Orange in color with a very filtered look to it and decent amount of carbonation. Head pours at around a 2 finger width and has no retention or lacing to speak of.


Smell - Cooked Veggies and a slight bready smell along with a faint malty scent. The smell does get rather skunky and offensive after a while.


Taste - Much like the smell, it's primarily cooked veggies with a slight yeast taste. The malty scent that was in the smell isn't here at all. It also leaves a bad veggie aftertaste after drinking. Without sounding too objective, it tastes like a bad adjunct lager.


Mouthfeel - It's light and feels fresh when drinking and the carbonation is balanced out quite nicely, so it's okay in terms of ease on the palette.


Overall - Even though the cause is noble, with 50% of the profit going towards helping military veterans, it pains me to say that this beer is quite bad. However, since this brewery is relatively new (at least to my knowledge), I have hopes that it's flavor will improve along with the other beers it plans on releasing in the future.

Pours a nice coppery amber with an average but decent white head. Aroma is typical of a lager, but has strength and depth that I don’t get from most pale lagers, having strong fruity notes as well as the expected lager aroma. Flavor is malty and somewhat fruity, more rounded than most lagers and quite pleasing. Mouthfeel is fairly smooth and firm with a good amount of fizz. Definitely worth seeking.
