Pours a very dark brown with a small tan head. Metallic nose, overly roasty, some oak, and a bit of chocolate. A little bit of coffee and toffee. A light sweetness on the palate, but mostly just roast. It’s fairly metallic, a little bit of vanilla and oak, maybe a touch of chocolate.

Bottle shared by pantanap. Served in a Kuhnhenn goblet.

A - Quick-dissolving foam settles to some wisps, thin collar, and spotty lace. Surprisingly light and mildly transparent amber-brown body.

S - I get wood, whiskey, and a faint note of glue. If there was a porter here, it has long since departed.

T - The taste has a hint of beer among the wood, vanilla, and whiskey flavors, with a touch of chocolate and toasted grains peeking through. But still, comical amounts of barrel here.

M - Somewhat thin for 9%, with low carbonation, oak and tannic dryness, and some alcohol warmth.

D - I'm not sure how long this was in the barrel, but it was too long by a fair margin. I believe this used those tiny Palm Ridge barrels, and the increased ratio of surface area-to-beer necessitates very short aging times. The base porter has been thinned out and obliterated. Not very enjoyable.

The beer appears amber to orange in color, with a thin, wispy head that leaves only sparse lacing on the snifter.

The aroma offers oak, wine, tannins, grapes.

The flavor is odd and not at all what I expected. Like tannic grape juice, with overabundant barrel character. Really out of kilter, and unrecognizable as a porter.

The beer is very smooth on the palate, with low carbonation.

Overall, fun to try, but not a repeat.

A - Pours black, no head.

S - Booze, oak, whisky, booze, and maybe some of the base porter. Way to much booze for 9%...this was left in the barrel to long or just rushed into bottles.

T - Again, this is just a mix of booze and wood...maybe some light chocolate and vanilla in there, but I'm really reaching. Again, it's a booze bomb with a slight touch of porter.

M - Medium body, light carbonation, dry tannic finish.

O - Too much booze, too little porter. Couldn't drink my pour and had to just pass on this all together. Hopefully future versions of this beer are less boozy and concentrate more on the base beer.

Review from notes of a previous tasting. Appearance is dark brown with minimal light passage. A ring of brown head forms and leaves a small amount of lacing. The aroma bring quite a bit of raw oak to the table the gives off a guy quality. I pick up some weird herbal qualities... Basil? The spirit character comes through next and lays down a layer of heavy heat. The taste is very sweet up front with chocolate and some vanilla. Things seems to be a bit out of synch here. The mouthfeel features high carbonation with a medium body. Overall, this brew tastes a little sloppy.

a: poured a dark murky brown in color with pale brown highlights and almost no head which barely left any lacing sticking to the glass.

S: mostly boozy but was able to detect some slight toffee, hints of dark fruits and plenty of roastiness with some suagry sweetness.

T: the barrel aging process was more prominent on the palate alongside some dark fruits, roasty malts with a touch of chocolate, vanilla accents. Oaky character but lots booze.

M: the brew was medium in body with low amount of carbonation which had a sweet, boozy, oaky, mild fruity, and silky finish.

O: just an ok barrel aged porter but still was happy to try out

Thanks to my friend Carly for bringing this one back from the brewery. Served fresh.

Pours a murky dark brown with very low visibility. No sign of a head nor any lacing. Light bourbon is the first whiff, closely followed a warm, dry roasted coffee. The scent of oak lingers heavily over all of it, giving an overall effect of dust and char. A sweet syrupy aroma starts to develop as it warms, reminiscent of honey. Clearly a porter in style - it is light in body and rich in flavor. The body is almost cola-like - effervescent and slightly syrupy without any heaviness. Flavors of the charred wood, roasted coffee, and bourbon blend nicely without anything dominating too much. Good, solid beer with enough interest to enjoy.

375ml waxed bottle, one of two bottles released at the 4/20 event, into a 7venth sun snifter.

A - Pours a murky brown, with a couple fingers of off-white head that quickly recedes to a ring around the edges of the glass Not much lacing or retention.

S - Lots of caramelized sugar and a little toffee. Prunes and dates.

T - Raisins, dates, and burnt sugar in front, and then it follows with caramel and toasted marshmallow in the back. Some vanilla and almond as well. Nicer than the nose made me expect.

M - Thick and pretty viscous. Carbonation is a touch aggressive, but it ends up nice and creamy.

O - I wasn't sure if I'd like this one after Temerity Fort, but it turned out to be the better of the two. Both are worth seeking out, but I'd rather drink this one all night. It really, really improved as it got close to room temperature. More in line with an old ale than a porter, but a good beer for sure.
