Stopped in for lunch today. This was my first visit to any of the Yard Houses.
Atmosphere: This place is trendy. It's dark, lots of booths, and the bar's in the middle of the place. The decor and atmosphere kind of reminds me of Gordon Biersch, really.
Quality/selection: Almost 130 taps, so they've got a wide variety of stuff. For quality there's a good mix of local, national, and international stuff. No hidden gems, but oh well.
Service: Our server was attentive and quick even though the place was busy, and he was also quite knowledgeable and ready to offer suggestions. No complaints here, actually he did a great job.
Food: I was with a group of 7 and we all ordered different things, from burgers to the house specialty macaroni and cheese. No complaints. The menu was more chicke and upscale than I'd have liked, but that's the kind of place this is.
Value: Definitely a bit pricey. Pints were $6 and very few items on the food menu rang in under $10.
Overall: To me it's more of a trendy bar and restaurant with a lot of beer than a beer bar. Oh well, it's an upscale national chain (think Cheesecake Factory or PF Chang's) so what did I expect, right? Worth checking out, but not a place where I'm going to become a regular.

Great beer samplers. Including a belgian sampler and a rotating 6 beer sampler. Each sampler comes with a good description of what you're getting. Great selection and a good happy hour. I haven't tried them yet, but they have monte cristo's on their menu and I haven't had a good one since Bennigan's went under.

This is certainly NOT the place to go for a quiet pint. The crowd was large when I went (and my friend who's been a few times before says it is always so), and the music is fairly loud -- not like a dance-club, but enough that you have to talk loudly.
The staff are really on there toes. The waiters were darting to and fro constantly with large trays of pints, and I only heard one glass hit the floor. At the bar, the bartenders were constantly scanning for new arrivals, so that even through a 2-deep crowd around the bar, they'll spot you and take your order rapidly.
The selection is amazing for a bar, with around 100 beers on tap (you might not find every craft beer imaginable, as a good beer shop might provide, but I've never seen nearly so many available on tap in one place). The kegs are stored in large walk-in refrigerators on one side of the restaurant, and the lines run through refrigerated pipes to the bar. My only complaint with the set-up is with the temperature they keep the coolers (32-35F) -- which is about 10-degrees colder than most of their beers should probably be served. IF SOMEONE FROM YARD HOUSE IS READING THIS, PLEASE KEEP AT LEAST ONE OF YOUR KEG REFRIGERATORS AT 40-45 DEGREES, AND STOCK ACCORDINGLY!
I found it a little ironic that they serve pints and even half-yards, but not yards of beer at the Yard House (just saying...)
I also didn't like paying $6 a pint for domestic beer, but I guess those refrigerated beer pipes aren't cheap, and the chance to try many beers on tap that can usually only be found in bottles has some value, too.
Bottom line: I'll be back -- not every week, but it's certainly on my list of places to go now. I'm even thinking about using their selection to teach a few friends about different beer styles.

Maybe I'm a little harsh but it shows the dearth of what's in Va Beach and Town(e?) Center when a place like this (and I'm not saying it's a shithole) has a 100-seat bar and a warehouse of booths/tables packed at 4:45 on a Thursday evening and you have to wait 45 minutes...don't even bother w/ trying to find seats at the bar for a group. So be prepared to wait or come for lunch. The server we had was extremely quick and polite and knew a little about beer so no complaints, nor any complaints about the (quoting server) music selection that consists of over 8,000 classic rock songs (sadly, I was there for two hours and correctly nailed every song). As for the selection it's basically all the microbrews you find at a grocery store, or at least the lesser-known beers of said breweries (Stone, Allagash, North Coast)...unless you are just into the "beer scene" then you won't find anything close to a rare find. As for the food and the prices (well, $6 for a domestic pint can get me in titters but-) the food isn't bad. HOWEVER - if you're looking for a quick sandwich and fries or wings, you can easily find another place (IDK - Cheesecake Factory across street) and get a larger portion of better quality for less money...and if you're going to spend $33 on an average steak why not pump in a few more bucks and just to Ruth Chris' (across the street). I could see myself coming back here to try one of their own house beers and getting a cheap app but other than that it's not worth it in beer bar terms (however, if you like to see the pretentious Va Beach elites or their yuppie teenagers you're in luck).
