Here's some background info..
I'm from San Francisco, been on BA for almost ten years, have traveled the world going to breweries, beer bars, and beer specialty stores.
I never thought in my entire life that the most impressive beer bar i'd find would be on an island in Greece. This is not because of their selection or because of their service or setting. This is because it's the most unlikely of places to find a bar of this caliber.
My wife is from Kefalonia, the island which Draught is on. We stumbled upon this place and i could not believe their beer selection. Beers from every corner of the world, collaboration releases in magnums, fifteen taps of rare beers (mostly Belgian and German), and over 100 bottles of the rarest beers you can think of.
Every beer is served in it's appropriate glass, served at the right temperature, and explained in detail in the menu or by the talented waitstaff. As i sit there drinking i realize something... have i ever seen a beer bar hit every aspect of the "beer bar" concept so squarely on the head as this place? I don't think so.
We become regulars, on our next trip to the island we meet the owner. Turns out this guys used to live in Belgium and Germany and fell in love with the beers there and wanted to bring it all back to his homeland. This is a labor of love, something which takes convincing as most of the locals only want to drink Mythos (aka, Greek Corona) or Heineken.
I commend a person with such passion to want to take this sort of risk, it's amazing and inspiring. If there is a better beer bar in Southern Europe i'd be very surprised. Here's to passion before business.
