Poured slightly hazy gold in color. An apple white head, huge at first, comes to rest at a 1 inch cap that stays until the end. Beautiful.

The aroma is big on funky brett, along with lemon, lime, sour apple, herbs.

Its flavor follows with acidic citric notes. More lemon, lime, apple, but also notice apricot. Otherwise it's got funky yeast and offers essence of bread from its malt profile. Short finish, but notes of yeast and brett linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel is dry, crisp, great for summer.

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. THIS is the type of brew I love for summer. Full of flavor and character that demands your attention, yet it's refreshing and simple. If it had a bit more depth, it would be a home run, but I'm not complaining.

Crisp and hoppy. A really nice blend of classic belgian sweetness and spiciness with a west coast hop profile. Nothing is overwhelming yet the flavors feel so big. Like a belgian style tripel with a west coast twang. Quite nice. Big yet brisk mouthfeel. Euro hop bitterness, slightly spicy finish. Tasty and drinkable. Little bit of alcohol heat but doesnt take away from the style much.

APPEARANCE: A very delicate pour led to an enormous, oversized, foamy head. Beneath it rested a pretty lively and bubbly, straw-yellow colored beer.

SMELL: Sour apple is the dominant aroma here, but some grapefruit, lemon and a touch of funk come through as well. I was surprised to see some people say that this didn’t smell like a Belgian, because I could have told you it was from 15 feet away and blindfolded. The aroma is distinctly that of a Belgian-style brew.

TASTE: There is a ton of citrus in this beer. Lemon and grapefruit come through the strongest, but that sour apple from the nose is still present in the flavor. A nice tart flavor kicks about mid-sip to provide a nice pucker before the finish cleanses the palate with a nice, clean, lemon wash.

MOUTHFEEL: Light bodied with a decent amount of carbonation, the Rayon Vert is puckering and very crisp and dry. Very nice feel.

OVERALL: Another solid effort from Green Flash. Belgian Pale Ales are not my favorite style, but I can certainly appreciate a good one when I taste it, and that’s exactly what this is.

A: Pours a clear golden color with three fingers of pillowy white foam. Obviously very carbonated.

S: Fruity Brett starts off, tart lemons and grapefruit with some must in the background. Mixes seamlessly with a bit of citrusy hops.

T: Very dry flavor, I get quite a bit of barnyard and lemony brett with citrus and piney hops in the background. The brett is the star of the show here, though. Also quite bitter.

M: Medium body with very strong carbonation, a bit too strong for me even for the style.

O: Very refreshing and unique. Quite a bit of Brett character, yet a nice hop character as well. A bit too bitter for me, though.

A: Pours a hazy golden/orange color. A towering, bubbly white head forms and leaves rings of lace.
S: Hops, lots of passion fruit hops. Mango, peach, papaya. Then becomes soapy and oily. Just on the nose I would have said this was an IPA. Not surprising from Green Flash. No yeast, nothing I would consider Belgian.
T: Up front is the mango, peach, passion fruit hops. Maybe just a hint of spicy, busty, Belgian yeast in the finish. Though there is no finish or aftertaste what so ever.
M/D: A medium body and carbonation. Really slick and oily and a bit on the thin side for me. Needs to be way more crisp and dry. Not hard to drink at all. I will finish the bottle in no time.

Really not a bad beer. Just does not hit any style buttons for anything Belgian as far as I am concerned. The four pack will be drunk, but this is not what I am going to reach for when I want Belgian anything.

When I opened the bottle I immediately put my nose to the lip. I get a ton of the yeast. I like this horse-blanket smell.

I poured this beer into a fluted glass. I get a ton of foam on the pour. I recommend letting the beer settle for a minute after opening, or be patient until your first sip. The upside is clumpy foam making for some cloud-like lacing on the side of my glass.

I really enjoy the smell coming off the top of this glass. You get some really good saison like sour quality. I also detect a little bit of spicyness. There wasn't any hoppiness that I could pick up.

The flavor is a little bit of a challenge. I get a decent amount of bitterness. This is one of those beers that smells much better than the taste.

Overall this was a good beer, but it is a challenging drinker.

Pours a hazy, copper color. One inch head of an off-white color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of sweet malt, tart citrus, hint of hop, hint of pale malt, hint of spice, hint of grass, hint of alcohol. Fresh, strong, and pungent aroma. Fits the style of a Belgian Pale Ale. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of tartness, hint of sweet malt, hint of pale malt, hint of hop, and a hint of of citrus. Overall, good appearance, amazingly great aroma, but the body is greatly lacking in comparison to the strength of the aroma.

Pouring this from a bit above the glass is a slight mistake, leaves three quarters of the glass in frothy white head that doesn't give up its domain very easily. After trying to drink through this frothy head i gave it a rest to let it fall into a pretty nice lacing.

A rich golden honey colored beer that seems impossible to see threw on an almost creamy medium bodied beer.

Crazy, citrus fruits, light caramel malts, light malts, some yeast, floral aspects, light spices, and smells I don't know, as I drank a glass of this I would take a whiff of the aroma and be baffled as it seemed to change slightly but in good way.

The taste almost follows the aroma, with malts, hops, yeasts all making random appearances and keeping me totally focused on trying to discern what exactly is going on. I wish I knew more about the brewing process, really, might help me know what or how to make beers taste like this.

The only draw back is, well as I see it, this beer lacks the traditional light dry aftertaste of beer, with it's hidden or lingering grains or hops or yeasts, or whatever gives most beers it light to not so light dry aftertaste. But, other than that this really impressed me, I hope it's not just an amazing bottle or a crappy beer prior to it, but I hope this beer gives these tastes to everyone who tries it.

And, on that note, give this beer a try.

A - A standard pour yields a mammoth perfectly uniform fluffy light tan colored head comprised of big chunky bubbles... Stellar retention... The color is a dull slightly hazy amber... Loaded with swirling micro bubbled rapid paced carbonation... Loads of lacing clings to the glass...

S - A dynamic mix of Belgian yeast and potent earthy slightly pungent hoppiness... Some light fruit notes lie beneath the surface... There is also a distinctive funkiness... This really is a bit intoxicating, I love this aroma...

T - A mix of funkiness and Belgian yeast to start... An earthy hop presence... Some light fruity notes... White pepper notes... A light spiciness on the finish...

M - On the lighter side of medium bodied... The carbonation has a certain unique potency... A bit on the dry side of the equation throughout...

D - A very nice rather assertive Belgian IPA... A home run in terms of aroma... Solidly above average in all other facets... Definitely an American interpretation of the style... Tasty and something I would gladly drink again...

Serving type: 12-ounce bottle. No freshness date.

Appearance: Poured into a tulip. The color is rusty caramel. Tons o’ dense, eggshell-colored head developed and dissipated very slowly, leaving the inside of the glass lined with trails of foam.

Smell: My first whiff was a load of funky fresh Brett, which tends to dominate. Underneath are musty farmhouse basement, hoppy citrus (a little grapefruit and orange), pine spice, perhaps a little caramel, and a nice fruit complexity with scents of apple and pear. It also has a hint of raisins.

Taste: The mouthfeel is smooth and dry. The funkiness from the smell is toned down a couple notches but the Brett is still noticeable. The pale ale qualities — the citrus, pine, and caramel — are given room to shine. The Brett and caramel begin to balance as the beer warms and the fruits emerge. Each sip leaves the tongue tingling with a lasting bitterness.

Drinkability: This is a very nice brew. I do not have much experience with Belgian pale ales but I really enjoyed this beer’s hybrid qualities.

12 ounce bottle poured into a wine glass.

Rayon Vert pours a bright golden-orange tone with a couple fingers of a bright white head. Its` nose comes across with citrus, brett and pine. A very nice smell to be sure. Sipping on this bpa and I taste lemons, belgian yeast, coriander and some light hops. Damn, this beer tastes good. Mouthfeel is medium, it has a rather lively carbonation to it. All in all, a very good beer that is well balanced and easy to drink. I have found it to be tasty fresh and also with a bit of age on it.

12 oz bottle poured into a tulip

A- Pours hazy straw yellow/orange with some particles. A massive white head. Big bubbly lacing. Careful on the pour with this one.

S- I get a big spiciness up front. There is a lot of fruit here. Citrus tones from the hops and a tiny bit a darker fruit. Certainly an intriguing smell on this one.

T- This is a weird one, that's for sure. There is a ton of carbonation up front. The taste, is very fruity, the is some west coast hops in here for sure giving it a citrus and piney taste. The yeast gives this beer a really spicy taste and feel and is very crisp on the finish. The taste is a strange sour hay flavor that im trying to decide just how much I enjoy it.

M- This beer has insane carbonation, at times it was too much. The yeast really gives this beer a full silky feel which is quite nice.

O- This is pretty decent beer, very unique to say the least. I don't know how old my bottle is and if this beer is "constantly evolving" there's no telling here. I would be interested in trying a fresh and aged one side by side just to see the difference. As of now, i am not quite sold on Brett.

S: some floral and citrus, fresh and bright

T: tasted like across between an IPA and a Belgian pale ale - some wood and citrus flavors, crisp hops and zesty yeast

M: crisp, clean, refreshing

O: a well-made Belgian-style ale, but unique enough that it presents its own merits; slightly hoppier and less smooth than the Orval to which I have heard it compared

A- Pours a cloudy, murky golden orange into my DFH glass. A tremendous yellow tinted head floats and hangs on for dear life. The head is so big that it takes a while to finish the pour. Carbonated like champagne!!! The lacing is sticky as hell and really hangs in for the long haul. Damn near perfect!

S- Right off the bat, that Bretty, yeasty funk kicks you in the nose like a Mule in a barnyard. Smells like a horse stall at the Saratoga Race track on a hot day. Some nice hints of lemony citrus, notes of caramel and grapefruit peel on the backend. This is mostly all about the Manure and citrus zest.

T- WOW! Just as the nose tells you it's going to be... It's like drinking a lemonade at the back end of a horse. Manure, lemons, black pepper, hints of caramel, clove and banana. This is funk-a-licious!!! I gotta try to grab all I can of this fantastic brew before it disappears!

M- It's hard to rate something that makes you mouth literally taste like shit... but that's exactally what it's supposed to do, and it does it sooo well! Lots more going on than just that tho... brilliant lemon/grapefruit/orange zest notes, sweet wheaty caramel, delicate spices and of course that all too familar horse shit stank!!!

O- Fantastic! So full of Brett love, beautiful bright citrus, amazing carbonation and I'm finally glad I got around to trying this fantastic brew.

Rayon Vert could be used as a fourth-grade science experiment; a volcanic-like gush of white froth spills up and over the glass while nimble bubbles oscillate like jelly fish. The froth, which looks something akin to an abominable snowman, pulsates up and down. I'll need a straw if I ever hope to get to the orange-gold liquid...

A lot of mean things are said about Brettanomyces. It's been called all kinds of mean names - "horse blanket", "sweaty saddle", "stinky cheese" - but that's mostly by winemakers; brewers appreciate the rogue yeast, which, indeed, does contribute a lot of "funky" flavours and aromas (which at times may bear some resemblance to a horse stable).

In this case, the wild yeast has added a galaxy of complexity to the beer, making it seem as though it had gained a distinct "aged" character, possibly by being aged in wood. Lo and behold, however, it's a fresh (and un-oaked) offering. The 'fresh' factor is appreciated by the glistening, budding, vividly leafy essence of its hoppiness.

All that vinous hoppiness is not without a sharp trace of citrus and a breezy pungency. The malts taste strongly honeyed and meld wonderfully with the tart orchard fruit flavours of the yeast. Considering the scene it caused earlier, the carbonation is surprisingly tamed, as the flavours are allowed to docilely sit on the tongue for some time.

There is a striking likeness to Orval that is impossible not to mention. By the look (and smell and taste) of things, one would guess the two brothers (or first cousins at least). Although I'm not ready to grant it the same holy status, Rayon Vert drinks with near equal delight and, perhaps, comes across even more so perfumed (probably owing to the hops).

Green Flash has spun gold with Rayon Vert. It is a simple yet shape shifting beer that offers a balance between delicacy and density. I wish to have been able to buy more bottles to track the changes this beer is sure to undergo with time, although I am mightily satisfied having tried it fresh. And I'd be mighty excited to try it again!

Pours a super effervescent amber with 4+ fingers of cream colored head. Stays hazy, good head retention & lacing

S: Slight funk, that builds as it warms, some green apple

T: Follows the nose, a touch breadyness & caramel, some green apple skin up front. A bit of caramel sweetness mingles with pear & green apples as this warms, along with dryness & a touch of grapefruit hops. Finishes fruitty & funky with sme fairly assertive grapefruit, almost pulled a 4.5

MF: Medium bodied, fairly firm carbonation

Very true to the style, nice bit of funk in this. This got better as this warmed, may have to revisit this

Poured into a chalice. Pours clear golden with a large, moderately dissipating white head. Plenty of tiny bubbles can be seen rising from the bottom and side of the glass. There are citrus hop aromas as well as Brett. The beer smells sweet. The citrus from the hops comes first on the taste, but this quickly followed by the Brett. The Brett brings that nice sour flavor. The malt profile is there, bringing some sweetness to this beer that I picked up in the aroma. The flavor profile strongly reminds me of Orval. The body is on the lighter side of medium with adequate carbonation. The finish is dry. This is an excellent beer. I wish I could try this side by side with a fresh Orval for a proper taste comparison.

22oz into a tulip. Pours a lightly hazed copper orange, egg cream colored towering head recedes leaving froth dangling, excellent lacing.

Citrus hop wrestles a forward brett scent. Spicy clean upbeat. Inhaling though the mouth the taste floats to the tongue.

Strong grapefruit begins the taste. Grains and grass. The brett again tumbles with bittering hops in the aftertaste. Warms well as the brett comes more forward but a bit of zinc appears. Thin to medium bodied mouthfeel.

Bottle from a four-pack bought at Whole Foods, New Orleans, for $8.99. No bottle date.

A: Poured from an undated (so pre-May 2012) bottle into a wine glass. The color is surprising: a deep, opaque gold -- the color of a good IPA, really -- although the head is unmistakably a Belgian head. Big, creamy, and dense with froth. Untouched, the head sits there for a good three minutes before sinking into the beer. Strangely for a yeasty beer, there isn't much obvious carbonation. A thick lacing clings to the glass throughout. A great looking beer.

S: You smell citrus and you smell brett. Oranges and grapefruit lead the fruit charge immediately after poured, then peaches come out when the beer warms. Brett fades as it warms. Smells dry and sweet.

M: Not a strong point for me. For a beer that doesn't demonstrate a ton of carbonation, it's somewhat active in the mouth, though it pales in comparison to Orval's intense carbonation attack. Rayon Vert is light, and creamier than I'd like. Swish it around much and it feels like foam. It ends with a bitter, not unpleasant film of yeast in the mouth.

T: Citrus up front that spreads into a unique blanket of evolving yeast. The back end is pretty bitter for this style -- very California. It changes a lot in the mouth. More agressive than Orval, which is probably its best comparison.

O: This beer has created some heat in the BA forums lately, despite good but not exceptional scores, and it's clear why. Rayon Vert is an important American beer. Sure, it's not Orval's refined perfection, but it's a Californian take on a sort of uncategorizable Belgian style. It's also widely available for about $2.50/bottle, or about half the price of Orval and most other brett beers. I can't think of a similar American beer that's available in four- or six-packs.

Not sure how I managed to miss the boat on this one for so long. 12oz bottle, poured into my St. Bernardus goblet.

A - Whoa, tons of head on this. This beer is alive. I poured a bit aggressively, but I got at least 2 inches of head and only got half the bottle into the glass on first pour. Color was nice, a deeper amber than I expected for a BPA, slightly hazy.

S - Balanced. The hops gave off a slight citrus aroma, but it wasn't over the top. The brett was detectable in the smell as well and contributed a little bit of funk, but again, not overwhelming.

T - Really, really delicious. I didn't get any alcohol at all in the taste. The brett is present while not overpowering and provides a really nice counter punch to the hop profile. Just the right balance of bitterness, funkiness, and refreshment.

M - Almost creamy. I didn't notice any over carbonation despite the gigantic head on this. Very, very drinkable.

O - Fantastic BPA, and a new staple in my fridge. For a style that I think is very easy to mess up, Green Flash nails it. While entirely different, this is every bit as good as their West Coast IPA.

A: 3" foam that lingers for a while. I was very careful not to over foam, but still got to the rim of my Duvel glass. Nice orange/dark golden color. It is not clear, as I poured the sediment as well.

S: funky, some chalky, some orange and apricot hidden behind the funk.

T: hop bitterness that reminds me of orange peel, followed by candy-like orange sweetness and fruitiness. After all that there's some sweetness and warmth coming from alcohol.

M: oily at front. but it dissipates very quickly, leaving a dry finish.

I think this is a very nice beer, with lots of character. It throws a curb ball to the IPA fueled craft beer scene.

12oz bottle, unknown date. Served at around 40F.

Pours lightly cloudy golden amber with a large foamy head that leaves nice walls and rings of lacing and recedes to a good cap.

Aroma is yeast and brett funk, fruity, good deal of lemon and orange citrus. Excellent strength.

Flavor is lemon, orange peel, fruity, quite citrusy, some brett funk, but not as much as the nose, bread & yeast, mild malt sweetness in the middle, and finishes with really nice hop bitterness. Minimal alcohol.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, oily, a touch sticky, strong carbonation.

Freakin’ excellent stuff. Balances the hops and brett funk perfectly. Incredibly drinkable.

A - Pours a hazy golden orange with a big two finger of frothy white head atop. The head fades down very slowly leaving behind lots of lacing.

S - Aroma is a full of Belgian yeast flavors and funk with lot of light fruity esters, with some green apple and apricot, lemon peel and other citrus, Brett, some floral hops, and a touch of grains.

T - Starts off with a mix of funk and Belgian yeast with some coriander and other spices, lemon zest, and some green apple and grains. Through the middle, some more sourness and tartness come through with some more citrus and apricot and funky farmhouse Brett. The finish is a mix of fruity yeast esters, tartness, green apple, peach, floral hops, Brett, and sweet grains.

M - Medium bodied with full carbonation. Feels smooth with a dry and tart finish.
