12oz bottle poured into an oversized tulip. Bottled on 12.10.12
S - Piney, resiny hops foremost. Floral tones. Layer of mild caramel and toasty malt in the background.
A - Hazy dark amber beer with cherry colored highlights. Huge rocky tan head from a gentle pour. Solid amount of lacing.
T - Excellent balance here. I get some of that quick bitterness right up front. As I reach midway, toasty malt alongside some mellow chocolate flavors peak in. Hop flavor is all in there adding some pine and spiciness.
M - Medium body, medium-light carbonation, dry.
O - Would love to get this a little bit closer to the bottling date but the aroma still popped. Appearance follows the name appropriately. Taste was wonderfully complex and had great balance. Perfect feel. I judged this beer based on what I thought the brewer was trying to produce versus the American IPA style guidelines

Another overlooked favorite.
I poured this in two stages. First pour was vigorous and it foamed up, so I took a sip and waiting for things to calm down. Wow! Yum! Anticipation is a killer. … I finished pouring the bottle and set my glass aside while I prepared a snack (and let the beer itself shake off some of the refrigerator chill.) There’s an impressive head retention to this beer, the perfect top to the ruddy orange-amber colored beer.
All that foam does its job releasing a wonderfully hoppy yet smooth aroma. I get some orange-y citrus, some piney notes, and a sweetness which rounds it out.
Tastes great, with this up front hop and a smooth malty finish. Like … a red ale and an IPA, go figure. There’s a spicy zest to this (brew a rye version of this and I’ll be in love all over again), with a pleasant citrus-pine bitterness and just enough malt to bring it all down to earth. Great finish. Bravo!

Poured into a 13 oz tulip glass. Pours a beautiful bright red, with 3 inch Tanish red head, with excellent retention and lots of lacing. Smell pineapple, tangerine, carmel, and pine. Taste is all of that perfectly balanced with a little grapefruit in the finish. Body is wonderful, pretty chewy for 7%, easy drinking, and plenty of life. I really like how the kicked this up a notch and made the price feel better do to the abv being higher and the taste being even better.

Poured into a snifter. No freshness date.
A- Pours a dark copper, bordering on brown, color with a 1/2 inch light tan head that retains somewhat before evaporating to a thick ring around the edge of the glass and big bubbles of surface foam. Sudsy lacing. Noticeable sediment suspended in the body as well.
S- Grassy, earthy hop nose that's sharp and inviting. Faint caramel malts in the back.
T- Grapefruit sets in immediately amongst the sharp bitterness and subtle malt base. It's definitely the the hop bite that purveys itself on the palate as per the usual red ale M.O. Such a nice balance since the hops aren't too forward and let the malt do its thing to a point. More grassy than citrusy.
M- Very, very crisp and quenching as well as quite tingly from the hops. Medium carbonation.
O- Nice and enjoyable across the board. A great example of a hoppy red ale that's not too intense.

Bottle poured into a pint glass
A: Pours an amber red hue with a finger of ecru foam.
S: Bright citrus notes dance on the nose and soft sweet malt sedate the nostrils; the aroma is very enticing yet simple.
T/M: Flavor portrays more citrus grapefruit with a touch of earthy hops while medium carbonation effervesce on the tongue and lead to more mild, bready maltiness.
A full flavored experience with more balance than a typical IPA.

A - Poured into mug. Reddish brown in color with two fingers of cream colored head. Quite a bit of lacing.
S - Earthy hops, sweet malt, fruity tones, cannabis, herbs.
T - Hops, caramel malt, cirtusy grapefruit and herbal flavors.
M - Moderate to heavy.
O - This is a pretty tasty beer. A nice alternative to the typical IPA or IIPA. A more earthy, herbal style of IPA.

From the bottle and into a pint glass:
A: rusty yet hazy amber red body that leaves a thick, foamy, off white one finger head that lasts for a good two minutes. No carbonation is seen rising. Great amounts of lacing is left all over.
S: pine up front with a superb combination of citrus and hops in the background. Some light maltiness does come out slightly.
T: all of the noted smells combined really nicely
M: medium with nothing harsh on the tongue, just generally an all-around good feel.
O: this is a superior blend of an IPA and a red ale. I am starting to wish I bought the four pack and would have no problem having this again any time any place.

12oz bottle from a 4 pack. $5.99 on sale. 7% makes me happy. Poured into a standard American pint glass.
A: Nice dark red/brown color with a cream/tan head about a finger and a half thick. A little cloudy, but not unappealingly so.
S: American hops hit you right away. Piney, resiny, citrus smells backed with sweet and nutty malt. Very nice.
T: Hops shine on first sip. Resiny and bitter flavors followed with a sweet malt backbone. Malt is full of caramel and some slight nutty flavors.
M: For the color and style mouthfeel is perfect. Medium/medium-heavy body with medium carbonation. Finishes fairly dry.
O: Love this beer. I might actually enjoy this one better out of bottle than on tap. Mouthfeel perfectly matches amount of flavor. Finishes great. A good beer to start with - an IPA beforehand makes it much less balanced and enjoyable.

A: Poured a very red version of orange with some haziness and big off white head. Stuck to everything.
S: The hops explode out with huge pine and herbal scents. You can tell this is a malty monster because caramel and biscuit are right there.
T: Hops hammer right out of the gate with massive pine and herbs. As they start to flow into bitterness the malt takes over and tons of grain, barley, caramel and toast pummel the palate. Its a battle until bitterness wins and this sucker ends with a chalky bitterness.
M: A syrupy medium with plenty of carbonation.
O: Loved this beer. I am looking for more tomorrow. Something about the dry hopping and the heavy malt just hit it right for me. Trying to be subjective, it seemed balanced and overdone in the right way. Not sure how.

Served out of a bottle and into an American Pint Glass.
Appearance- dark red, medium carbonation, some lacing, two finger head.
Smell- notes of citrus an pine, lots of malt coming through.
Taste- well balanced hoppy red ale. Notes of grapefruit and heavy notes of pine. Malt comes through in a pleasant way. Great beer will be looking for this again.
Mouthfeel- pleasant and malty.
Overall- really enjoyed this beer. I an usually not impressed with Red Ales but I loved this one. Solid beer.

A - Pours a rusted orange, dark pumpkin perhaps, and quickly builds a solid tan head, two fingers worth. Great hoppy lacing, sticky, rings the glass all the way to the bottom.
S - Big nose on this beer. First whiff I get plenty of pine, thick fresh cut pine. Follows with sharper citrus, tart grapefruit. This has a third element as well, more bitter grassy notes hit as well. I also get the malty presence in there, a toasted malt backbone that has a "dry" toasty smell.
T - As good as expected from the aroma. First hit are those piney hops resins, dry and crisp but not over the top. Gets into the citrusy grapefruit rind taste, this one can't be called a "juicy" citrus beer, but it's there. I really liked the interplay with the malts here, that dry toasty malt bill matches well. It makes for a great crisp beer.
M - Pretty standard IPA here, medium crisp body and carbonation, well done.
O - Is it a hoppy Amber, or a malty IPA? I don't know, nor care, because it's just a really nice drinking beer. Great balance with big aroma and flavor for me. I appreciate that it's "different" enough to stand out from the huge collection of IPAs out there.

Pour - Nice deep auburn red with a nice foamy head that leaves a lace once it dissolves
Smell - Pine and citrus with a nice hoppy aroma. Very inviting!
Before tasting my expectation, I am just excited for a red ipa. I love most red beers and IPAs are my obsession.
Taste - Deliciousness. It was almost exactly what I expected. It is a light bodied beer with a citrus aftertaste. It has the warm inviting flavors of a red ale; caramel and toffee that mix with the citrus
The only thing lacking is that i wish it was a bit hoppier. Otherwise another great beer from green flash!

Green flash hop head red
Pours a deep orange red with a seemingly tobacco-stained white head
Its got a biscuity/malty front and raisiny overtones to go with the delicate hop earthiness from the nose.
The bubbles are now slow and precise with a thin layer being all that's left of that head which now ramps up the Guldin Draak tulip that i poured it in. What seems to be bubbles just float, but we can be sure this is sediment.
It strikes me as very balanced as far as its hop to malt profile.
The mouth feel is light to medium with the carbonation being mellow.
Overall This beer might also be classified as an exceptionally well hopped and dryish Irish Red. It is can be the litmus for future "Red IPAs"

A: A strong pour into a standard tulip glass resulted in a slow falling kacki colored head.
Dark hazy maroon appearance with an orangeish hugh when held to a light. Streaking vertical lacing
S: The nose is ripe with tropical fruits, melon, kiwi, strawberry. (amarillo?) some cattyness and pine hop arroma.
T: Strong pine and citrus bitterness right at the start. A few more sips reaveal a caramel malt backbone that compliment the bitterness nicely. catty and evergreen is detected also.
M: Moderate body, the bitterness leaves a bit of a mouth drying sensation but not astringent, maybe pallet shock? moderate carbonation
O: I'm a big fan of the bittering portion off this beer. The late addition/aroma hops are OK, but the aroma was lacking and no indication of the flavor.. though i kind of liked that. A solid IPA if you like IPAs, and if you like IPAs you wont trust my IPA review any way because you want to try more IPAs... like me Cheers!

Bottle poured into glass gives a large khaki colored, creamy head. Beer is mainly brown in color, with hints of red and copper. Hazy with a small amount of floaties. Head slowly recedes to leave a bit of a rocky head, leaving heaving lacing down glass. Smell comes with both floral and piney hops, then sweet malt with a hint of citrus.
Taste follows that nose. Piney hops, floral hops, sweet and slightly roasty/nutty malt, ending with lemon and orange. Mouthfeel is creamy and heavy, with low carbonation.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. Awesome I got this stuff about 4 weeks old, I had passed on it a few times because it was seriously dated. Pours a deep amber. Aroma is citrusy with pine also and sweet malts. This beer is far above average and is solidifying red ipa's becoming one of my favorite styles. Taste is awesome bitter grapefruity up front, balanced by sweet bready malts, pine on the back end. Mouthfeel is almost creamy. Overall pretty awesome beer, would definitely pick it up again. Wish it came in 6-packs. Best thing I've had from Green Flash so far.

Pours out a dark ice tea color with 1 finger of slightly off-white suds. Lots of effervescence and some lacing.
Smell is strong hop and yeast.. Lemony and grapefruity at the same time. No alcohol detected here.
Taste is slightly malty and a tad bitter.
The hops are the star here.
Mouthfeel is only slightly oily but the stickiness is almost nill. You are ready for the next sip.
Overall this is a darn good Red IPA. Looking forward to all of Green Flash Brewing Co. offerings.

Poured into a nonic a medium copper/amber with a tightly formed one finger off white head that settles slowly into a creamy mass.Citirc hops dominate the nose with caramel malt standing up pretty well to the hops.Man I love left coast hoppy reds and this is as the label states more of a red ipa, citric hops hit home on the palate with some left over earthy tones,it's not all one dimensional,a big enough caramel toasty base is there but the hops win.I drink this beer alot and I don't get tired of it,love it.

Poured from 12oz bottle into Globe glass.
A. Pours 3 fingers of head. Thick lacing. Good retention. Color is very dark amber brown.
S. Lots of piney hop aroma, amid a nice amber malt base. Definitely hop forward. Overall bitter, but has a pretty substantial malt aroma.
T. Taste is pretty damn good. Very well balanced between malt and hops. Have to say that the malt might take the lead in the flavor. Has a nice bitterness on the back of the tongue. Easy drinking beer. Piney hops take second stage to a really nice smooth amber malt sweetness.
M. Medium boided. Medium carbonation. Finishes with some sweetness.
O. I am a fan of red IPAs. This one pretty damn good. I would/will seek this out on a pretty regular basis after trying it for the first time on this review. Pretty pleasant discovery. I like this more than the Green Flash West Coast IPA. For serious hopheads this is a nice change of pace, for the IPAs we crave.

Bottled on 3/13/13
Poured into the Sierra Nevada/Dogfish Head IPA Glass
Appearance: Pours a beautiful, clear amber with nice red highlights. A massive, thick 3 fingers tall off white head blossoms out of the beer as soon as its poured and boy, does it stick around and leaves some nice sticky lacing behind. Fantastic looking red ale.
Aroma: Big, juicy hops positively leap out of the glass as soon as you raise it to your lips; Huge notes of grapefruit, lemon peel, tangerine, fresh pine needle and a really lovely dank, earthiness from the summit and columbus hops, but boy do those amarillo hops really shine through. Underneath the mountain of hop aromatics there are some sweet, bready caramel malts poking through.
Taste: First off, your tongue is slapped around by very citrus forward hops; grapefruit, lemon, tangerine, pine and a slight earthy onion note. Middle of the taste, there is a really nice sweet, bready maltiness that offers some nice contrast to the bright, pungent hops but just the right amount to not steal the show. The beer finishes dry with an assertive bitterness and lingering notes of caramel and citrus ladden hops.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied with a robust mouthfeel, but still remains some light and is very refreshing. It is a tad thin on the back end, but it works. Moderate to high carbonation.
Overall: I've had this plenty of times before and it's an awesome beer that is unfortunately under appreciated by a lot of people. Greenflash calls this a Red IPA, I was a bit skeptical at first, knowing that a high percentage of sweet crystal malt does bode well for the dry, bright and crisp West Coast IPA archetype, but some how Green Flash pulls it off wonderfully. The sweet caramel malts of the American Red Ale style are certainly there, but they kept at bay and the hops shine through wonderfully. Highly recommended.

Poured into a pint glass. Pours reddish amber with a tall, khaki head. Some bubbles can be seen rising from the bottom of the glass, but not many. The head leaves some nice lacing behind on the glass as it retreats. The head retains very well during consumption. The hops bring grapefruit, pine, and floral aromas to the table. Bready and caramel malts can be detected in the nose as well. The beer tastes like a sweeter West Coast IPA. The citrus and floral hops really balance up front with the sweeter and bready malts. The piney bitterness comes out in the middle and back end, leaving some in the aftertaste. The flavors are well balanced. The body is medium with some carbonation. The finish is dry. the drinkability is high. This is an excellent example of a West Coast IPA. This is an IPA I could drink on a regular basis.

12 oz bottle pours a deep amber with fluffy head and lacing. Aroma is floral and citrus, typical heavy Green Flash dry hopping. Loaded with juicy citrus and floral hops, Green Flash sure knows how to put together a great hop profile, but more caramel malt base than a typical IPA. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, resinous, with dry finish. Green Flash made some slight recipe changes to this beer in redefining it as a "Red IPA", but it's still delicious.

Deep amber color with dark red hues. Extremely cloudy, near opaque with bits of what i would assume is hope residue sediment floating around the glass from the dry hoping. Very large off white head with good retention. Lots of lacing that sticks all over the glass. Refreshing hoppy aroma. Lots of juicy citrus fruit notes. Quick hit up front on the pallette of caramel maltiness followed by fresh, bitter, pink grapefruit. Pretty fair amount of bitterness in the finish. Dry aftertaste. Medium body, little watery mouthfeel for the style. This is a good brew, on the bitter side but not overwhelming. Would definitly seek out again.
