On Tap

Churchill's Pub & Grille
San Marcos, CA

Clear dark orange and amber with a thin white head. Regular, lined lacing down the glass.

West Coast style hop aromatics--piney and citrusy. This could easily be confused with a hoppy pale ale or well-balanced IPA's aroma. Balanced nicely with caramel and crystal malts, but certainly a hop-forward aroma.

Bitter first, pine and citrus second, then bready and caramel malt balance. Very nice.

Medium to thick, but a pleasure to drink.

A great, hop-forward American bitter. Refreshing and hugely drinkable.

Had this at The Surly Goat in West Hollywood.

Appearance: Brown with an almost reddish tint. Creamy tan head.

Aroma: Malts and fruits with a hoppy smell.

Taste: Somewhat sweet taste of malts, bitter fruits and strong on the hops.

Mouthfeel: Carbonated with a hoppy aftertaste.

Drinkability: a decent beer but not what I look for in n ESB. Too damn hoppy. I suppose this is the American style. Some may like it but I prefer the more traditional.

Had on-tap at Breakwater Brewing Co in Oceanside, CA. Served in a pint glass.

A : Amber brown with a solid creamy finger head. Somewhat hazy.

S : Feint hoppy smell with a layer of caramel malt underneath.

T : A nice up front sweetness of malt, hit hard on the end wit ha strong bitter bite. Light citrus note to the hop, but not overbearingly present.

M : A medium body with a very nice carbonation fizz.

D : Very nice thirst quencher and a great American spin on the style.
