On tap at CK. Beer is amber and clear with a soft white cap of medium and small bubbles, nice retention but low carbonation, looks nice.
Aroma is strong in my face with some nice earthy CTZ hop aromas. Not sure what hops exactly but it has that sense, mild malt sweetness cuts through as well.
This beer is bitter, the finish isn't too dry but it is quite bitter. Mildly dry I suppose, medium in body to start out with, beer is chewy with resinous hops, nice throughout, if you like your IPAs big and hoppy, this is a good one.

On tap at the Common Table in Dallas. The beer pours a clear gold/yellow-orange color with a white head. The aroma is heavy on the hops. I get a lot of orange citrus and pine notes, as well as some caramel malt to keep things balanced. The flavor is definitely all about the hops. I get a ton of bitterness as well as some bitter oranges and pine notes. The caramel malt is hidden in the background and plays a secondary role. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

A - Poured out a clear, copper color with a two-finger, tan head of bubbly foam. It left thin rings of sticky lace on the glass.
S - It smelled of citrus, grapefruit, mango and bubblegum. Some caramel aromas.
T - It tasted of sweet caramel, citrus, grapefruit and bread crust. Spicy bitterness adds balance.
M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A medium bodied ale with a strong alcohol warmth and a dry finish.
O - This is a really tasty DIPA. Another great brew from Green Flash.

A: The beer is dark orange in color and poured with little head.
S: There are strong aromas of orange citrus in the nose.
T: The overall taste is dominated by flavors of hops, which persist through the aftertaste making this beer true to its name. The alcohol is noticeable.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: You need to have a heavy tolerance for hops in order to finish this beer because it isn’t that balanced.

On-tap 3/31/2012 at Track 84, in Warwick, RI served in a tulip glass.
A: The beer is a deep golden brown color, with a short dense off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick on the glass.
S: The aroma contains fruity citrus, floral hops and caramelized malts.
T: The taste starts out with a piney bite of hops bitterness followed by sweet flavors of citrus and caramel. The malt character is hearty but not too heavy and provides a decent balance. The after-taste is slightly hoppy and slightly sweet.
M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.
O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, strong kick, good representation of style, although there are better 2IPA’s out there, this is still a solid beer to drink for a long time.

This poured out as a nice looking copper color with a foamy thick white head on top. the smell of this beer was hoppy, lots of piney citrus with some grapefruit notes in there too. The taste of the beer got a little better as it warmed up but wasn't quite what I was hoping for in the beer. The mouthfeel was well carbonated, medium bodied and a little oily. Overall this beer was good, it's bound to please just about any hop head out there but I feel that I've had much better IIPA's.

Pours an effervescent honey color with a finger of cream colored head. Good lacing & average head retention
S: Pine, grapefruit with a little breadyness, plus some booze
T: Follows the nose, in your face hoppyness up front, along with a little dryness. Some breadyness & a touch of caramel as this warms with a ton of grapefruit. Finishes with grapefruit peel, breadyness, pineyness
MF: Fairly thick, slight carbonation, nice balance
A super DIPA, love the agressive hops & super balance lying underneath, easily one the best DIPAs I've had in a while. I've been waiting for a hop ride like this for a whilw, well done Green Flash!

On-tap at Beachwood BBQ,
A: Pours a dark amber with a medium white head, good retention, leaving lots of lacing.
S: Pine forest, it smells like a Christmas tree.
T: While the pine is overt in the smell, the flavour gives more of a balance in the various hop elements. Lots of pine along with a pink grapefruit character and a bit of booze. Certainly an interesting flavour.
M; Nice full body, full of hop resin, aftertaste didn't last as long as I thought it would due to the name, but nice.
D: Another real good beer from Green Flash, I'd definitely have it again, but I'd make sure to make it my last beer of the day.

2nd or 3rd time drinking this, poured the 16 oz. bottle in a small 10 oz. stemmed tulip glass.
Glistening deep saturated orange, creamy dense foam, long lasting and glass-coating. Webs of intricate lacing form inside the glass.
Toasted caramel, citrus peel, pungent hop resins.
Flavors are similar, big caramel and toasty malts, smooth and buttery. Moderate hop bitterness, slick and resiny. Buttery diacetyl is present but not overly distracting. Full bodied with lower carbonation and some sticky caramel sweetness. It has an English feel, much like Schells Burton Ale. Dry bitterness lingers, reminding that it's in fact a double IPA...

Picked up a bomber at Brilbeck's in Syracuse for $7. Ah, this is a fine example of the DIPA style. Big floral, juicy grapefruit fills the aroma, while the flavor follows up with more spicy, grassy grapefruit. The finish isn't crisp, but a rounded and strong piney kick with citrus rind. The hops character covers a lot of ground and the malt isn't too sweet, as is the problem with some higher ABV DIPAs. Hop heads should check this out.

I've been craving some West Coast hops, here we go...amber glowing copper body with a big billowing off white head, leaves fine speckled lacing. Aroma earthy, citrus grapefruit layers of hops, dank mary jane, you name a hop character or aroma and I'm sure you can find it in this beer. The one characteristic that reigns supreme in this beer is the grapefruit pith it just flows out of the glass, flavor wise it borders as a barleywine big assertive alcohol with malts wrapped around it. Gotta love the West Coast hops, more waves of bitterness and hop flavors including more grapefruit bombs, earthy dirt, and again marijuana. Evident sticky hop oils on the palate yet lighter bodied than most DIPA/B wines out there they kept the palate surprisingly clean for this type of a beer, moderate carbonation works with this type of beer excellent feel to it. Overall I'm impressed I had it on draft a couple years back at a Penn Fest and it blew my mind, I'm not saying I have the same feeling as I did then but it's damn good.

The nose on this one is pretty nice. Shows good character without getting obnoxious and nice subtle tones that still give enough to keep it interesting. Flavor profile is definitely a palate wrecker as it's intense and rich and thick and leaves a lot on your tongue. But not so out there that its a laborious drinker. I can dig it.

A: Poured a light auburn color with good carbonation and a nice white cap. Bubbles fade away with no lacing after a few minutes. This beer looks heavy.
S: Wow bittering hops with orange peel, grapefruit, pine needles and some bread. Big nose with a nice booze sting.
T: Immediate hop bitterness with a big pine needle aand grapefruit presence then with some orange peel. Some heaviness in the middle with bread, grapefruit and a light flower note and more pine. Sticky, warm and bitter on the back end.
M: Heavy, low carbonation
O: Very good on taste and mouthfeel, palate wrecker indeed

Forms a dome-like head that leaves some streaky lace on the glass. The liquid is actually fairly clear with an amber-orange color. It looks terrific.
Very impressive smell with a grapefruit touch. There's almost no more today aroma but that's okay.
Strong hop flavor that gives it a over-the-top bitterness. The alcohol is also large and the carbonation is accurate for the style. Overall, this is an extreme brew.

12 ounce bottle, from DeCicco's in Ardsley, NY. Part of a four pack for $14 and change...no bargain here...and no freshness info that I can find, c'mon GF great beer but this style cries out for some consumer friendly information...anyway..pours clear, medium amber, lite tan head, that stays, froths and leaves nice, fine and scattered lacing. Nose is the expected blast of fresh and gooey hop goodness, with resins, citrus and pine infused hop cones coming to mind.
Full flavor, full and again fresh tasting hop crunch. Malty and quite smooth and soft under coating. Hop lovers rejoice go get and enjoy.
Close your eyes and you are in San Diego, enjoying a fine example of the local nectar. Well done and worth the price of admission.

From 12/21/10 notes. Had on tap at Rattle n Hum in NYC.
a - Pours an amber color with one inch of white head and light carbonation evident.
s - Smells of citrus hops, lemon, oranges, grapefruit, and fruity malts.
t - Taste follows the nose. Lots of citrus hops and grapefruit, some bitterness up front but not as much as I expected.
m - Medium body and moderate carbonation,
d - A pretty good DIPA. Lots of nice citrus hops and not too bitter. Would have again.

Appears a transparent light gold with a small white cap that slowly fades into a gentle cap and collar. Scattered streaks of lacing are left around the glass.
Smell is of intense citrus, herbs, pine, flowers...reminds me tad of Hop Slam.
Taste is of the mentioned aromas with a blast of honey infused sugars and bitters.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, abrasive with the hops, and grassiness and herbs.

Clear amber colored beer with an off-white colored head. This is on the darker end of the color IPA Orange.
Smell is strong hops with a distinct emphasis on citrus. Strong grapefruit and orange aromas. There is some wood and tea scents but not really malt. Sandalwood and faint cinnamon.
Starts out bitter and slightly savory with a tea bag aftertaste. Very strongly hopped the bitterness is the first thing you notice. There is some grapefruit to this but the hop level makes it hard to pick out any kind of malt. Overall the taste is a dry very bitter beer.
Mouthfeel is good.
Overall this beer does live up to its name it IS a Palette Wrecker. A DIPA on the dry and bitter end of the spectrum.

12 oz bottle into a tulip glass.
Pours a clear copper, topped with a thick finger of off-white head. This maintains a frothy ½ finger, ringing the sides of the glass with sticky lacing. The aroma is floral, piney, herbal, and spicy in the nose, with a zesty feeling grapefruit presence and notes of fresh backed biscuits from the malts across the back. This has some nice hoppy power to it in the nostrils.
The taste starts off with a bold hoppy blast of grapefruit, resins, and spice, which lingers hard on the finish. Soft herbal tones, light tropical fruit, and tight sweet grains help to balance out some of the aggressiveness out here but man, that spice and pine sticks to the tongue with some strength. The mouthfeel is fuller bodied and really fills the mouth with a big slick oily creaminess that moves rather easily for the size. There is a bit of light crispness to this, while the alcohol, although not stinging, does really pop the assertiveness of these hops.
My previous experience with this beer had been on cask during a visit to San Diego and I have to say that I really enjoyed this more here out of the bottle. I still feel that it’s a little too big overall but the fresh hoppy power of this wins out in the end, helping cover up the high ABV. This is a nice representation of the West Coast style.

Pours a slightly cloudy, pale golden orange color with tangerine hues and a half finger frothy white head. Decent retention, slowly fading into a lasting ring. Streaks of soapy lacing left behind.
Resinous earthy aroma with grassy/soily pine notes countered by sweet fruit and pale malt. Hints of pine needle and grass followed by grapefruit and orange peel. Biscuity malt with graham cracker and sweet booze.
Medium bodied with a blast of dry resinous hops that provide a strong bitterness that lingers into a dry finish. Earthy pine needle and spruce followed mid palate by citrus/tropical fruit notes that prevent it from becoming one dimensional. Citrus rind, grapefruit and pineapple followed by biscuity malt and sweet booze. Thin and a bit watered down but easy to drink. Strong bitterness is nicely countered by sweeter notes but it's a bit too thin and boozy for my liking.

Another beer from the Bistro DIPA fest. Bright orange hue, minimal head. Not cask, but lacking carbonation, could have been the end of the keg, had it towards the end of the day.
Citrus aroma, moreso than grapefruit, comes off orange or tangerine. Uber hoppy, duh. Very bitter. Perfect malt pairing, just a notch under balanced.
I've since had bottles of this, it seems to go back and forth descriptor wise between a barleywine and a dipa. I prefer it fresh, and subsequent batches (like even the Toronado BW fest) have been heavier malt wise at times, but then the last one was lighter and more dipa tropical fruit edges to it. Either way, drink asap on the first one to decide where you want it to go from there. Good with or without age.

On tap at Alewife the other day.
The beer pours copper amber color with good head retention and lacing. The nose is all DIPA goodness, showcasing considerable pine (and I mean a lot of pine), light tropicl fruit and considerable dry citrus. The nose is intense and attractive in this beer. On the palate, this is jut not a style of DIPA that I tend to like. There is considerable pine and hoppy bitterness, but the beer is also on the sweet side, which only serves to intensify the underlying booziness in this beer. As a result, despite the considerable bitterness in this beer, the alcoholic heat comes on strong at the end. Mouthfeel is medium bodied to full, with a long, bitter, alcoholic finish.
Really a chore drinking this beer down given the blend of pine, sweetness and noticeable alcohol. Have to say I much prefer the regular DIPA from these guys.

First had: on tap at Broad Axe Tavern, Ambler, PA
Clear amber pour, with a small white head that left some splashes of lace on the glass. As would be expected, the aroma was dominated by hops, citrus pith and pine resin, with hints of a caramel malt backbone bringing up the rear. Lots of orange and grapefruit in the taste, resin, pretty intense WC hop bitterness, with a little tropical fruit and malt sweetness to take the edge off, but the hops were clearly in charge. Maybe not as intense as their regular IIPA, though I'd like to try them back to back to test that theory. Medium body, appropriately carbonated. Maybe a little intense for greenhorns, but a good brew for hopheads.

On-tap at the Yardhouse and served in a pint glass. Is that a good idea? On to the beer:
Dark orange/bronzed color with a healthy inch of foam on top. Both the head retention and the lacing meet my standards of good. Even better is the aroma. It's a big juicy nose, full of pineapple, tropical fruits, and some pine.
Full bodied, strong, filled with big citrus and grapefruit flavor. And it's not terribly bitter. But make no mistake, it still is a palate wrecker. The alcohol hides itself well, showing itself primarily when it heats the chest. It's not a beer you'll want to chug, but it also isn't a beer for mere sipping.
Count it as one more good hop related nectar to come out of San Diego.
