12oz bottle poured into a Bruery tulip.
A - Pours a hazy dark amber with red highlights when held to the light. A thin head of off white bubbles barely makes an appearance and galls to an uneven collar around the glass.
S - Lots of fresh citrusy grapefruit, some oranges, a slight grassiness and a bit of tropical fruits. Bready malt sits in the background under the hops and also provides a bit of caramel sweetness, but subdued.
T - Quite hoppy and bitter, very nice. Good malt backbone, lots of bready, biscuity flavors there. Hops are heavy on grapefruity citrus. More malt character than I expected, and the hops are a focused bitter and have less flavor than I expected - but are still quite a large part of the flavor profile, but the bitterness is the center of attention.
M - Medium bodied with good levels of carbonation, in other words on the high side...lots of prickly bubbles on the tongue. Bitterness fills the mouth completely.
D - Good and hoppy amber ale. Sharply bitter which tastes really good, but makes it hard to put down a lot of these. Very enjoyable beer, but I think in smaller quantities...but I wouldn't mind having another one soon.

Enjoyed this bottle out of a Belgian tulip glass.
A: Pours a cloudy amber hue with a thick white head that quickly dissipates into a wispy lace leaving a decent trail.
S: Super hoppy aroma with a caramel with some mild citrus scents.
T: Bitter hoppy brew with caramel background. Finishes on the bitter side of dry.
M: Medium body and medium carbonation.
O: Great brew – nice and hoppy with a caramel twist.

Another solid offering from Green Flash to support their West Coast hop flavor reputation. This beer had a local area following initially and is now distributed nationally in 4-packs of 12 oz bottles. It's nice to see breweries continuing to exploration beers combining both aggressive hops and a complete malt body.
Hop Head Red has a spicy aroma characteristic of the Amarillo hops used currently for dry hopping prior to bottling. Plenty of malt flavors to balance the hops and certainly bitter on the finish which sugests a lot of hops throughout the boil as well. Overall a versatile beer that can be enjoyed with or without food, summer or winter.
