Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a finger width foamy head. Head retention is mild, and lacing are decent. Has a very floral aroma with hints of rye. Standard pilsner taste with a nice rye and bitter bite at the end. Light to medium bodied with high carbonation. Decent beer. Wound drink another.

Look of a pilsner, pale gold. Smells of fresh hops, inviting. Nothing exceptional here, but having just completed 35 miles on my road bike, it was fresh and satisfying.

Looks like these folks have gone ahead and brought this one out of retirement.
12 oz can to pilsner glass, can dated 3/15/16.

A: Mellow gold with a tinge of copper. Kind of a sudsy head, but good retention. 1.5 fingers. Moderate lacing. Medium carbonation from the look of it.

S: Spicy and fairly grainy, almost a corny smell, which simply should not be in my book. Papery as well. Sort of an AAL smell. Wispy hops, small touch of grass, tiny amount of caramel, nothing to write home about.

T: Bitter, sort of flavorless otherwise. Hops are really only here to impart bitterness and a slight earthy touch. A little bit of spice, a very, very small touch of sourness. This doesn't really smell or taste much better to me than a macro lager would taste, all I get is the flavor of corn with a touch of rye, barely any barley at all.

F: Too foamy. Instead of finishing clean and feeling crisp like a good pilsner should, this foams up way too much in the mouth and leaves a film on the tongue. Could be worse, though. At least it isn't watery.

Overall, this is very disappointing in how little depth of flavor and character there is. Maybe a rye pils just isn't for me, but I feel like this is more a matter of the brewery missing the mark than anything else. I really love Deep Ellum's ales, but for the most part their lagers have been very subpar.

To good health and good beer.

ive always advocated for a rye forward pilsener. so many of these all taste the same, and i have long thought that to spike one with some pale rye malt would really be a game changer, and this is one of the first i have seen, its really nice. maybe just a touch more color to it, but still clear and pale, more yellow than anything else, but perhaps a golden glow to it under its full inch of airy white head. it smells great, because the hops and other grains are so minimal here, the flavor of the rye comes through super well, about as clean through there as it does anywhere in the beer world. nutty and spicy, short of dominant but certainly out in front of the pils malt here. the flavor is great, the rye gives it this fresh baked grain element, more flavorful than most pils types because of it, classic in its spicy flavor profile and slight sharpness. flavorful lager yeast too, the combination is amazing. some bitterness on the back end, but this isnt a hoppy example of the style i wouldnt say. the rye lingers long even though its dry, i love when that happens. highly charged carbonation makes it super refreshing in the texas heat. this beer deserves way more credit.

12oz can poured into a tulip glass, canned on 03/14/16.

Appearance: Hazy gold with 1/2 finger of head that quickly recedes

Smell: Grassy and grainy

Taste: Biscuit and cracker with some pepper and earthy hops in the finish

Mouthfeel: Crisp and medium

Overall: The rye used in this brings a depth to the flavor that really makes this pilsner stand out. Refreshing.

Huh, this was the first beer I ever had from Deep Ellum, when they just opened, but I've never reviewed it. From a can.

A: 3.5 - Light gold color with an airy, quickly fading head.
S: 3.25 - Very faint hop scent, a touch grassy.
T: 3.5 - Moderate hoppiness, with an earthy hop flavor. Rye malt is light as well, just a hint of pepperiness. Mild pilsner malt ends a little sweet and grainy.
M: 3.5 - Neutral texture, light bodied
O: 3.5 - Eh, nothing special. And yet, I've had this on draft and enjoyed it quite a bit. I remember better hoppiness. But the canned version is bland and inoffensive at best.
