Pours clear with a deep caramel color and a lacy white head.
Nice caramel malts in the aroma. A bit of hop there and maybe roast.
Light astringency in the flavor, more caramel a bit of bitterness. Pretty standard.
Not really a Czech pilsener, pretty thin, all the character is wrapped up in the caramel.

Surprisingly dark. Not overly carbonated. Scent is very light, surprising since the color. Malty forward, dry later. Not too hoppy. Really, really nice

From notes 9/23/12: Pours an orange amber producing 2 fingers of frothy , light tan head that fades to a thin surface cap leaving a wispy lace on the sides of the glass. Aroma is lightly toasted and caramel malt, fruity, a hint of nuts and spicy rye with a little grass. Taste somewhat like the nose is toasted bready malts with some caramel, toffee, roasted nuts, yeast, faint grassy and herbal hops. Unlike any brew in my experience: a wild hybrid of amber ale, marzen and German Lager.

Pours a very slightly cloudy amber with a poorly retained off white head that left some blotches of lacing. Smell is dominated by malts with a mild hop presence. Taste is also dominated by malts, starts off slightly sweet then turns to a more bread like taste and finishes with a mild grassy bitterness. Medium bodied and carbonation, smooth mouth feel. A little too malty, needs better balance with hops.

Although I like the earthly, peppery hops in this beverage, the brew is a too malty, sip and aftertaste, for me. There is a bit of a copper/metaly finish which also turned me off. Not a bad drink, but not something I'd go to regularly. May be a better experience with food.

I had this beer at 2 different places during a recent visit to NYC. One time it was in bottles and another time on tap. Both tasted differently. The tap version was way too malty for my liking. But the bottle version was A-OK and a rather decent tasting lager.
