Notes:
This award-winning dark ale is surprisingly smooth and drinkable. Caramel, molasses and chocolate flavors fill the palate. Its sweet start is perfectly balanced by a roasted dry finish. Nitrogen-conditioned.

Pint glass. Sampled at the Woodland Hills BJ's.
Pours a dark brown with ruby red hues. Not much of a head. A small off white head but it is gone quickly. Very little lace. What lace there is is barely hanging on. Scents are burnt and grassy. A bit of sweet malt and that is about it.
Flavors are okay. Some what weak. There is a solid coffee flavor. A bit of carob and some dry wheat with some dark fruit that is in the back ground. A very organic and grassy porter. Some minor licorace and alcohol peak through but they are very minor sadly. Flavors are good they are just minimal.
Mouthfeel is a bit watery and weak. This drinks smooth and unassuming. It does not hit one way or the other. A bit tame. I wish the brewer would take a chance. It has the potential to be great. A good porter that could be phenomenal.

Drank this beer on nitro-tap at BJ's Restaurant & Brewery in Temple, Texas on New Year's Eve. Very good pour and quickly served to me by the waiter (did not sit too long).
Appearance - Very nice 1-2 finger head that did not subside. Opaque; dark brown porter; head remained in place throughout my time drinking the beer. Very nice looking porter...
Smell - Maple; molasses; sweet, syrupy smell; not overpowering. Very easy to detect the smell. Very excited to take my first sip after taking in this beer's pleasant smell.
Taste - Very enjoyable; can taste molasses, chocolate, roasted, sweet but smooth.
Mouthfeel - Dry, slightly hoppy aftertaste, roasted, dry finish. Comfortable on the palate, though.
Overall - I enjoyed this porter and I recommend it. Very nice, thick head; the taste of molasses and chocolate was delicious; a great roast; a very nice, dry finish. This is one to drink again...

On nitro tap in Westwood (Los Angeles, CA).
Pours an almost opaque super dark brown with a 1/2 inch dense bone colored head that lasts. A foamy curtain of lace grows on the drink down. Smell is of roasted malt, slight coffee, and a subtle sour note. Taste is of roasted malt with a slight coffee aftertaste. There is an off sour flavor that comes out with each sip along with a mild roasty bitterness. This beer has a thick and creamy mouthfeel from the nitrogen. Overall, this is not a very good beer with the sour note in the smell and taste.

Mild brown appearance, slight beige head to it about 1" in range, good retention. Aroma was faint, really just smelled like a beer from afar, slight whiff of roasted black malt.
Taste, smooth, but a tradeoff as the roasty or chocolate notes aren't all that easy to pick out. No bitterness though, that's for sure. Left with the impression of a thin body, although its probably just the tradeoff of using nitro.
A decent porter, could see ordering one of these when you order the hot wings.

Nitro pour at BJ's Escondido.
A: Very dark brown with some transparency near the edges when held to light. The head lingers for a very long time.
S: Lightly roasted malt blends with dark chocolate and a whisper of dark fruit. I detect faint nutty notes and an earthy presence.
T: Lightly sweet with notes of dark and milk chocolate. I get a little molasses and restrained roasted notes. There's a pervasive nuttiness.
M: Medium body with a silky, creamy mouthfeel.
Overall: An enjoyable porter that's pretty nice on Nitro.

Nitro tap at the Palmdale location
Look: Almost black and totally opaque with a brown ring on the bottom of the glass with a 1/2 inch tan head and exceptional retention and some spotty lacing
Smell: Coffee notes upfront with hints of chocolate but the nose is fairly muted
Taste: Roasted malts with hints of ash coffee and chocolate. Not very complex
Mouthfeel: Creamy butteriness from the nitro with a medium body and low carbonation
Overall: Good beer and goes great with BJ's pizza

First had: on tap at BJ's, Westminster, CO
Poured a dark brown with a generous puff of tan head that receded after a moment, leaving some thick lacing as it went. A bit light in the aroma; roasty malts, and notes of cocoa. Nice flavors of dark roasty malts, cocoa, and a touch of coffee. No hops to speak of, as would be imagined. Medium-bodied, finished dry, with a little coffee bitterness. Overall, nicely drinkable.

A- Dark, deep brown with an almost nitro creamy brown head
S- Metallic iron? Not much else... maybe a little sweet malts
T- Malty chocolate, caramel, sweet. Such a muted taste a clean finish
M- Best part of the beer by far. Creamy full-bodied beer
D- Goes down easy wtih the mouthfeel but nothing stands out other than that but nothing offensive in there either

Saint Arnold brews this for the BJ's in Houston
Pours ½ finger of fizzy tan head. No retention. Color is a dark caramel brown.
Aroma: Caramel, chocolate, coffee roast, and vanilla. Kind of sweet.
Taste: Has a molasses flavor with roasted malts and vanilla. It also has some caramel, chocolate, and light coffee flavors. Again, it is kind of sweet for a porter.
Mouthfeel: Roasted, smooth, and creamy. Medium bodied with a medium amount of carbonation. Ends fairly clean. A nice feel to this one.
Overall, a decent porter that is easy drinking. Not over-roasted which I enjoyed. Not bad.

Had a pint of this stuff a few times at my local Bj's and I have to say it is pretty great.
The beer is pitch black and has a small frothy head that goes flat real quick. The smell of the beer is somewhat flat and doesn't reflect the taste of the beer too much. The beer tastes like chocolate, is a little hoppy and a little malty. I enjoy drinking it mostly because of the flavor and how incredibly easy it is to drink. It is super-smooth going down.
