Comes in a hazy orange, yellow color with a foamy head.

The taste is wonderful. Huge banana bumble gum, a smooth wheat mouthfeel, and a slight hint of lemon. A round complex flavor. There isn't much spiciness, but more of that bready banana fruity roundness.

One of my favorite hefeweizens.

Best by 7/26/13.

Pours a murky dark honey orange with a foamy beige head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace slowly drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is of malt, wheat, fermented banana, and some earthy spice aromas. Taste is much the same with a distinct caramel covered banana flavor on the finish. There is a mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp but slightly medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that tastes better than it smells in my opinion.

Poured two fingers of head on a cloudy, dark straw colored body.
The aroma is banana and lemon with a sharp grapefruit injection. Nice though.
The taste is very "wheaty" with some banana, finishes with a slight sour note.
The texture is smooth with moderate carbonation.
A tasty hefe with a bit different taste, but still nice.

Cloudy amber in the pint shaker-- it's the classic look. Rather modest head for a Hefeweizen, but quite spritzy and sharp in the mouth.

This one is a little more tart and edgy than some of the bubblegum monsters. It does have a pleasant mouthful of the German esters. A nice banana tang. More fruity than most with a great nose of peaches and cherries. Just a hint of cloves. Seemingly untouched by hops, but somehow perfectly balanced.

Another example of the Germans knowing what they're doing with these classic styles. On tap at Pizza Port in Ocean Beach.

Nice hefe...not top tier, but tasty and refreshing anyway. Pours a hazy dark dull gold with a really big delicate, bubbly head. Head retention is good, lacing minimal.

Aroma is just a bit better than average, cloves and banana

Taste is better than average as well. Some wheat bitterness with bananas, cloves and not as much yeast presence as some of the really good hefes.

Mouthfeel is about right for a hefe. Crisp, astringent characteristics, rich enough.

All in all a good hefe, just not in the Paulaner etc. class.

On-tap at Delaney's into a weizen glass.

A: Surprisingly (but not totally) clear pale orange body topped with two fingers of fine white head. Mediocre retention, spotty lace. Not bad, but no better than average.

S: Clove-bomb. Light wheat + banana. Clean and approachable, but a bit simple.

T: Wheat malt sweetness, clove spice, and a pleasantly piquant finish. Simple and effective.

M: Soft medium body, moderate carbonation. Delicate and enjoyable.

O: This is a decent, highly drinkable beer, but it pales in comparison to some of the better ones available - both from Germany and the US. Give me a Weihenstephaner, Paulaner, Hacker-Pshorr, Schneider, Live Oak, or New Glarus weizen any day.

Golden body with a hint of cloudy. Big ball of white foam fills weizen glass.

Big clove aroma with a banana back-up.

Taste starts with clove, then a big wheat tang. Banana background.

Light bubbly mouthfeel.

A refreshing and enjoyable hefe. You would be weisen to give it a try.

500ml bottle into my Erdinger glass.

It pours a hazy gold with a huge, almost uncontrollable foamy white head. The head is fantastic, not a bad looking beer.

The smell is definitely sweet. It is banana-y with some strong malt and wheat. The clove is also there.

The flavor is okay, mostly wheat. There is some banana too. It is a bit bland, the mouthfeel is way too watery. This beer is only a day from its best by date so that might be why.

It is decent.

Pours a cloudy golden color with a big pure white head that settled into a puffy cap.

The aroma has the typical bavarian hefe characteristics; dominate banana and clove to go along with a bready wheat malt. Some overripe apples.

Light banana and clove flavors. Nothing too strong. The malt is very smooth and a bit bready. Nothing sharp or sour that some hefe's can get. Perhaps a touch of grain. A dash of pepper in the end.

Moderate feel with tingly carbonation. Quite smooth and refreshing. Has a nice neutral finish.

This is a fine hefeweizen. The yeast flavors aren't the strongest but they are enjoyable. The malt profile is quite neutral thus it lets the yeast standout more than it would have.

hmm. Thought this was one i've had. Probably had and never reviewed... Its sitting in front of me. And its a muggy night. Being great for hef but an awful night for getting a good head on a beer. Looks like a wonder bread loaf cloudy. With about two fingers of head that are rendered slippery to the weather. A ring soon enough. A good frothy feel of almond and flowers. Marzipan and chalk. Nose of husk, lemon, that expands into apple. Palate is bready. Not as bright as i would like right now. A tad sweet. Feel the cotton candy on the teeth. Some clove notes that are yeast driven for sure. As it flattens that apple is the dominant animal.

Nice dark golden color to this one. Great opacity with moderate lacing and ample carbonation.

Typical hefeweizen aroma, a little heavy on the clove.

Pretty much mimics the aroma. Nice wheat tang at the beginning, cloves abound, with a lasting sweetness and spice. Very good example of a hefeweizen.

Slightly wet, refreshing carbonation.

Easy drinker, perfect for a spring day, but for the summer I would like it to be a little sweeter.

A: Slightly hazy pale gold, generous head with some small amount of lacing.

S: Malted wheat

T: This brew is more on the clove side than banana. Classic orange, malted wheat

M: Medium attenuation and carbonation levels.

Overall a good example of the style.

A: The beer is cloudy light yellow in color. It poured into a weizen glass with a perfect bright white head that quickly died down, but a quarter finger high head consistently remained on the surface, which was fed by a high amount of rising bubbles from the carbonation.
S: The light aromas in the nose mainly consist of wheat malts with some hints of lemons.
T: Like the smell, the overall taste is mainly dominated by wheat flavors; there are some notes of bananas and lemons.
M: It feels light-bodied and smooth on the palate with lots of bubbles from the carbonation.
D: The beer is very easy to drink, refreshing and thirst quenching. I could easily put back a few of these on a warm summer day.

Having this bottle that I got at a store in Santa Ana, El Salvador which carried 3 kinds of beer, all German and had a total stocked inventory on the shelf of 6 units. Its sell by date is today. Poured with a smallish, off white, fine head that slowly settled down and no lace. Color is a hazy, slightly dirty amber with some small bubble trails. Aroma is fruit, some traditional Bavariah Hefe Weizen qualities and wet cardboard. Flavor is the same and has sweet fruitiness coming out against the tartness/bitterness of yeast. Body is good and carbonation crisp and zesty. Finish is like flavor, loses the wet carboard thing and is short in length. Not bad, I think it'd be a whole lot better fresh. Want to try it again when I can get it that way.

My local German owned supermarket (an Aldi) had a few packs of this a couple of weeks ago, five 500ml bottles and the glass, had to get the pack. Never seen it before or since.

Looked good, the normal cloudy, murky, dull yellow you'd expect from this style of beer. The lovely clean and bright white head set it's looks off perfectly. Plenty of carbonisation, bubbles rising up through the brew could clearly be seen in the misty beer.

Have to knock the smells though, no banana or vanilla esters, well not enough for me anyway. Wheat smell, more than the regular Hefe-Weizen aromas I prefer.

Refreshing, crisp and dry taste, the wheat taking centre stage in the flavours, as it did in the aroma.

Lacks a yeast presence and the aromas normally associated with this style, OK but not one I'd push other Hefe-Weizens over for.

An 'also ran' sort of beer.

Beautiful amber body with a thick whipped-cream head. Swirls of smoky looking yeast residue after I swirled the bottle and poured the dregs. A vision.

Nose is sweet and spicy. Plenty of clove and banana, just like mom used to make.

Flavor is mild and sweet. Interesting hefe flavors are here in force, but do not overwhelm. Banana more than clove, I'd say. A really, really tasty brew.

Mouthfeel is slightly silky from the frothy head. Nice and easy on the palate.

A top-notch beer for a hot day, which it always is out here! Thanks to AAFES for finally bringing us something worth drinking. This will be an Oktoberfest to remember.

Bottle into weizen glass

APPEARANCE: Huge four finger medium-thick fluffy white head mounds out of the glass. Very bubbly with big pops and lots of fizzy cracking noises. Colour is a golden poppy or orange peel orange, opaque, with higher levels of carbonation. Head fades to a thick foam cap that remains, but no lacing down the sides.

SMELL: Good bold nose. Lots of wheat malt, clove, and banana and citrus overtones. Bold and interesting with lots of citrus notes.

TASTE: Wheat malt, some clove, but lots of sweet banana and citrus fruit in there. A sweeter weizen than the norm, especially in the long lasting aftertaste.

PALATE: Medium-thin body with higher levels of carbonation. Not quite as creamy as others, but goes down fine and finishes slightly sticky on the palate. Could be a little creamier and smoother for the style.

OVERALL: Decent taste profile. Bold and interesting. The rest of the experience is pretty average unfortunately. I wouldn't turn it down, though I wouldn't go out of my way either.

Pours a hazy grapefruit orange and pink and is topped with a large, thick and bubbly white head. After a few moments the bubbles pop and the head slowly fades, leaving a thin sheet of wavy lace behind. Clove, yeast, banana; all the usual suspects, rise to the nose in sublime fashion. Mouth-feel is a bit thinner than what you would expect, since the aroma was so perfect and thick. However, it's still top notch in the taste department with more cloves, banana, some squirts of citrus and some sweet malts in the background. Big carbonation and a good mix of drinkability and taste make this one exceptional hefe.

Pours a mostly hazy medium yellow color with a thick, airy white head. Retention is decent and not much evidence of lacing.

Alot of ripe banana and citrusy orange on the nose. Not so much clove, but a hints at sweeter spices like cinnamon and cardamom. A good smelling beer.

Mmmm, this is a good hefeweizen! Nicely balanced yeasty esters with the sharp wheat tang. Smooth and refreshing. Even a mild saaz or hallertau hop bite comes in at the end. Might be a step below the greats of the genre, but I could drink this all day. Very glad I bought a bottle of this, I would recommend trying this to and hefe fan. What a bargain at $1.79 for a .5L!!

Had a .5ml bottle at Liberty St. Tavern. Poured into a Sam Adams glass, its a clear gold at first, followed by a haze when I get down to the bottom of the bottle. This was a relatively clean hefe. It still had the trademark banana and clove, but it was much more subtle than say, a Franziskaner. Overall the flavor is surprisingly light, with a dry mouthfeel. Not bad to sessioning I suppose.

When poured into a mug, this beer produces a thick creamy head that is almost overwhelming. Lacing is erratic and scattered but looking pretty good. The smell is one of bananas and honey and is very inviting.

Taste is pretty good, a very "high pitched" taste. No dark undertones whatsoever. Very fruity and stinging in a good way. Mouthfeel is creamy and pretty good, as well as the drinkability. I could see myself drinking many of these no problem.

Overall a decent Hefe.

I've had this brew in my fridge for some time now so I figured it was high time to try it and see what I've been missing by just letting it take up space there.

A - I poured an aggressive pour and had to slow it down due to the huge head that formed from the heavy flow. It's a good thing I did it because I looked at the half glass I poured and noticed that the beer was crystal clear...no cloudiness that I expected to see from the hefe variety. I was quick to stir that accumulated yeast up from the bottom of the bottle to pour it into the half glass I had already poured. Much better...the beer was as it should have looked...a cloudy dark orange with a nice white foamy cap. Good lacing from the foamy head.

S - Fresh banana and lemon smell with the usual wheat scent encountered with any good Hefe.

T - This hefe is light and fruity, lacking a bit in carbonation in my opinion, but that's not a negative trait for this style...in fact it lends itself to the creamy mouthfeel. You also have your clovey finish you would expect from this style of brew.

M - As I said earlier, the mouthfeel is on the creamy side due to it's lower carbonation...and it finishes dry.

D - I like the hefeweizen style and this is a solid contribution that any fan of the style should sample.

Appearance -This poured a muddy brown in color with a decent head.

Smell -There's a bitter malt aroma, almost like an English bitter, that is way out of place here. I wish I could list additional smells but this bitter malty aroma has me scratching my head.

Taste - I can get some yeast and light banana at the taste but that English bitter is still there. It's almost like a light toffee.

Mouthfeel - This HW is bigger than light-bodied but not medium. It has a heavy feel though in the mouth and little carbonation.

Sinkability - This is nothing like a traditional Hefe and regardless of style classification was not enjoyable at all to drink.

Hazy orange, one finger of a compact foam, quite beautiful, but a bit scarce for the style.
Classic weizen smell, with banana, yeast, cloves. Quite balanced.
The taste is a bit more on the banana side, but not too much.
Standard, average, onest weizen.
Average body, aftertaste on the banana again.

500ml. brown bottle with foiled labels(3) and
some sort of bottling date code on the back label. It pours an apricot-orange gold with just the slightest bit of haze to it. Just 1/2" of white foamy cap that settles rather quickly and not too lively of carbonation is visible.

Sweet doughy malt, wheat, banana and a hint of lemon come to the nose. A nice citric fruitiness.

Starts off sweet and fruity, with the maltiness turning wheaty, then winds down with a lemony tartness. Very nicely balanced and one of the better Hefe's that i've tasted.

Medium bodied with ample carbonation that leaves a little tingle on the tongue. Alcohol is extremely well hidden. An easy drinkin, sessionable warm weather brew.
