On tap at the brewery. Served in a taster.
Appearance - Clear orange body. Nice white head. Good retention. Nice lacing.
Smell - Mild citrus and pine hop. Diacetyl? Might be.
Taste - Still some diacetyl here, but less. Mild citrus hop. Grainy malt smoothed out by the buttery flavor. Eh.
Mouthfeel - Medium body. Medium carbonation.
Overall - Diacetyl kills this. Maybe it's a bad batch.

First had: on tap at Coffee District, Delray Beach, FL
Slightly hazy, amber pour with a small white head that receded to a wispy layer, leaving a few spots of lacing on the glass. Smell was a bit funky, and not in a saison way, like something was off here; thin and malty, soapy, distant leafy hops. This translated into the taste, unfortunately. It wasn't completely undrinkable, but this was not a very well-done IPA overall. Sweet thinned-out malts, light fruits, dishwater, leafy hops that really didn't provide a freshness or crispness that, in my opinion, makes a good IPA. Light-medium body, and just not very drinkable. Fortunately, this was a taster, because, hmm...

I had this on-tap while we were in Key West. Served in a standard pint glass.
Appearance: The beer pours a cloudy amber color with a finger of off white head that fades to a layer on top of the pour and leaves some nice lacing.
Smell: Some sweet malt with a citrus peel/soapy hop note. I'm getting some warmth from the alcohol as well.
Taste: Soapy hops dominate the flavor with a citrus peel bitterness. Mild fruity notes with a touch of sweet malt and a bunch of hop bitterness in the finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium body with very foamy carbonation and a dry finish.
Overall: It didn't feel like there was much artistry going on in this beer. The bitterness was super aggressive, but nothing was subtle. The alcohol stuck out a bit too much as well.

From tap to taster at Due South tasting room on 6/2/12
*From notes
A: Clean 24k amber. A 1.25 finger head, minimal lacing and a small collar top the glass.
S: Pine, a touch of fresh juice, sticky resin and a bit of charred malt.
T: Dry, with plenty of biting, bitter hops. As it moves back, I get some juiciness and fruit. Really pleasant.
M: Dense. It's a bit thicker and rich then I originally expected for a south Florida beer.
O: Pretty well done, Due South. I'd like to see a bit more tropical, juiciness to this, as it was 98 degrees (see what I did there?) outside when I quaffed this. And when it's that hot, gimme fruit, not pine and resin. But it's a minor squabble, as this IPA is tasty none the less. Can't wait to tick their Category 4 DIPA.

On draft at Due South for their Grand Opening. Nice hoppy presence, both in the aroma and flavor. Slight malt on the back end with a nice biter finish. Was impressed with this one. Good balance between the hops and malts. Very sessionable and easy to drink on a hot Florida day.
