On tap at JL Beers in Grand Forks, served at adequate temperature into a pint glass. Poured a rich brown, fairly clear and without much action, and therefore not much head or lacing. I've never been able to pick up much aroma in a bar, too much air moving, but some faint grain was distinguishable. Taste was on the lighter side, but for such a low ABV beer it was to be expected... some caramel malt, not all that peaty but some nuttiness perhaps. Mouth was smooth and solid for a lighter beer, went down way too easily and way too fast. If by some miracle I could replace Bud with this beer as the light easy to drink standby, I'd be perfectly happy with that. I like my Scots a bit beefier than this, but for as light a beer as it is it performs fairly well.

I was anticipating the IPA, so I've needed to adjust my impressions, but now that i know it's a Scottish ale, that makes a lot more sense.
Soft malt with slight caramel quality and an aqueous note too.
Darker brown with copper, but not as thin looking as you might expect. Head was fairly short lived, but it was 3 weeks in a growler.
LIght caramel drink. Not particularly complex.Sweet, but not too excess. Soft drying on the finish and the lack of alcohol was apparent.
Lighter body, but again, not as light as anticipated considering the abv.
Not a bad Scottish ale, overall. I guessed it was a mild but lacked the hops, so I think I was kinda' close.
Many thanks to my friend and colleague Steph for bringing this back for me. You're the best.

This has some flavor but lacks any smoky notes....it is a nice sessionable type of ale but has a hint of spoiled eggs on the aroma and again on the taste (more so on the nose). Not real strong but just enough to signify something is off.
It also has a real strong nutty characteristic that reminds of pecans...some mild sweet cookie dough notes as well. Body is on the light side of medium...easy drinker....
I was more impressed with the IPA I had on tap. This is out of bottle and contract brewed at Sand Creek. I think the kegs come from there too but I am not certain. They have a very uninformative website and facebook site.

pours out a less than clear dirty mahoghany colour...thin off white head and little lace. sweet malt aroma..some cocoa and toffee can be detected. the flavour profile is again malt dominated throwing off hints of semi-sweet chocolate chips, and faint caramel and nougat candy notes. it's pretty light in the pants flavour wise, no smoked malts to make this authentic. the malty notes that do come through seem strained and less than authentic. light body, watery mouthfeel. drinkability is ok...i can tell that this is meant to be sessionable and approachable without regard to rigid style.
overall, a poor attempt at the style. maybe brewed with the delicate scandanavian palate in mind? either way, if FBC wants to make an ale of this style, make it more authentic please. this just comes off to me as a pub grub washer downer with a little bit of flavour for good measure.

Had this on tap at the Peacock Alley in Bismarck, ND. Scottish Ales are one of my favorite styles so I was happy to see this on tap.
Appearance - Dark brown with a little red tint. Not cloudy. Nice layer of white foam, and consistent carbonation throughout the glass.
Smell - Sweet, very sweet. A little hint of caramel comes out as it warms up.
Taste - Sweet and metallic. The malt character is overshadowed by the sweet copper penny taste. Hops are very subtle if noticeable at all.
Mouthfeel - Smooth, medium to thin body, above average carbonation.
Overall - Certainly not the best Scotch out there. I'd like to see the sweetness matched with a little peat or roasted flavor and the carbonation toned down a little.

The beer arrived a dark mahogany color with a decent cap of foam. The beer was ice cold. Even as it warmed the aroma was difficult to ascertain, but faint grains were lingering. Light and a little carbonated on the palate. The malt flavors mainly consisted of caramel flavors, but was not very strong. I would like to see some more assertive malt character from a Scottish ale. Overall, not a bad attempt at the style.

Another great on from Fargo brewing. Had this on tap at JL beers in Fargo. Pours a see through dark brown colors with a nice thick white head that leaves a nice creamy white ring. Smell is of sweet malt caramel and with some nutty smell. The taste is very smooth up front it's malty and carbonated with a very sweet nutty after taste. Well done again keep it up guys!!!
