Poured into a standard pint glass.
Pours a very dark brown color with a quarter finger of off white head. There is some lace on the glass. Lots of chocolate and roast in the smell. The taste is smooth with some roast and smoke. There is a nice chocolate/cocoa note too. The finish is roasty but not overly bitter.

look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 4 | overall: 4
Appearance: Pours out a pitch black liquid with a creamy/frothy head that descends to an espresso film while leaving some respectable lacing behind
Smell: Very roasty, with dark fruit, dark chocolate, chicory and walnut tones
Taste: The roast from the aroma is amplified on the tastebuds as the beer starts out with a lot of roasty char and it is only after the swallow that some of the subtleties are revealed - dark chocolate, French Roast coffee, piney hops and a vague walnut sensation in the aftertaste
Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation
Overall: A little different from your typical robust porter and it is certainly robust

Poured from 650 ml bottle into snifter
A - dark ruby color, small 1-finger head, long, heavy lacing.
S - Chocolate, coffee, malty flavors with a hint of floral aroma.
T - this is where this beer really ramps up. Along with the chocolate smells that transfer into the taste, I get a sweetness from some dark fruits ( a la a BDSA) that linger till the end. Strong coffee tastes show up as well but everything balances nicely.
M - really nice balance here. Light to medium-bodied with a hint of carbonation. That sweetness is a nice twist to this "porter" and it really surprised me.
O - started slow, but by the end I came away really impressed by this beer. Not sure how "porter" this beer is, but it was a really nice sipper. I would pick this one up again.

A friend hooked me up with this - Served out of a bomber.
A - Thin black, with creamy tan head of 1.5 fingers. Good lacing, a little watery looking.
S - Espresso, not very complex to me. Some sweet malts with a slight bite.
T - The espresso is dominant. Hints of dark chocolate, has a nice little bite and slightly warming.
M - Medium bodied. Nice and smooth across palate with a good strong finish.
O - Decent porter, had a good level of drinkability to it. Nothing to write home about IMO.
