Bomber poured into a pilsner glass. Reviewed from notes.

Pours a really beautiful, hazy ochre. Dark red at the core but lighter around the edges - this really does look like a blood orange, or perhaps a sunset. A one-finger white head fades quickly. Minimal lacing.

The aroma is quite sweet, with a very strong wheat presence. This is, to be sure, untraditional. In addition to some classic ester fruits, there is a very strong undercurrent of bright citrus. Indiscernible combination of spices.

The taste is a little less enchanting than the smell. Again, there is a very strong wheat character, with a slight spice mix. What really sticks out is the pure, unadulterated flavor of blood orange. Tart, sour and very natural, it imparts a lingering bitterness to this beer. Not unlike eating a real orange, I suppose.

The carbonation is on the low side, and the mouthfeel suffers as a result. More life would make this easier to drink, though it's certainly not difficult to put down now.

A really solid effort from this new local brewery. I'm very excited to see what's in store for Slumbrew.

A: Pours a hazy, delicious looking orange with a quarter inch head. As you make progress, there is almost no lacing to speak of.

S: The smell is a nice, refreshing blend of citrus fruits, real heavy on the oranges, with some sweet notes mixed in.

T: The taste is akin to the smell: very heavy on the blood oranges. There are also some hints of grapefruit, lemon peel, and honey.

M: This is where the rating goes down for me. I am well aware that this is not the type of beer to have a profoundly full body, but I was expecting more from the way it looks in the glass. Every sip I took I could not help thinking that this beer was missing something. The mouthfeel seems to be where it falls short.

O: Overall, not bad because the flavor is definitely there. As much as I had trouble enjoying it though, I would say it's worth trying.

Thanx Aaron:

Into a weizen glass:

A: hazy golden orange body with a one finger white foamy head that quickly dies, carbonation is still seen rising

S: esters/"banana" yeastiness up front, light coriander all balanced pretty well, light citrus as it continues to warm

T: sweet yet light spiciness through all previously mentioned flavors, light wheat bite at the end leading into the aftertaste, dry finish

M: light, sessionable, moderate carbonation seems to be right now for the style

O: well, I'm not a true fan of weizens, but I think I found another winner for the style and for me as I would have this again

Can taste the coriander and the hefe. Personally this beer has a sour aftertaste which I not a fan of. Smells great though with a great mouthfeel. This beer looks thick and opaque. Not my fav but not bad. Personally I would want the beer to be sweeter for the 5.5 alcohol level.

Now this 22 has a little age to it, but not so mcuh as that it skunked.

A: I love the look of wiess beers! This one reminds me almost of a clover honey mead I made once. Just a tiny bit of head, little bubbles flowing throughout and a rich but not "sticky" golden color

S: I can certainly pick up a bit of coriander and that hefe yeast smell. I'm not too big on the smell with this style, but this is better than most.

T: Interesting! Almost gives off a Saison vibe! A little pepper mix for the sweet of the honey. the aftertaste can't be beat here either...Reminds me a bit of honey candy drop, but with just a hint of bitterness so it doesn't feel like a dessert.

M: Good Carb with a strong light feel. Rolls about the tongue a bit but from the spice not the beer itself. Perfect for the style. (Maybe not this time of year, but it's a heat wave here in VA)

O: I enjoyed this beer greatly. I think the only thing to make it better would to have had an 80 degree day to open in on and to have just finished washing the car. I can't say I am completely on board with the price, so that certainly takes it down a peg. Still my first experience with Slumbrew isn't a negative one.
