On tap for the 4th Annual LA Beer Week Beer Festival at Union Station in Los Angeles, CA.
Pours a clear yellow with a foamy off-white head that settles to an oily film on top of the beer. Tiny dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, grass, and hay. Taste is much the same with a mild bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is tasty and refreshing.

On tap at Taps in Brea.
A: Light gold with a big creamy crown. Lots of lacing is left on the glass.
S: Sweet grain with a whisper of bread. Lightly spicy noble hop bouquet with pils malt.
T: Lightly sweet grain with a low noble hop bitterness. Dash of biscuit. A clean finish, devoid of fruity esters.
M: Light in body with upper moderate carbonation.
Overall: A good Helles on a fine 100 degree day.

On-tap at Beachwood BBQ,
A: Pours a golden yellow with a firm white head, good lace, good head retention.
S: Classic mix of bready malt and noble German hopping, grassy herbal and pleasant.
T: The pils style malt is great here and works effortlessly with the noble herbal hop character. Grass, very mild hint of pine, not Americanized one bit. The best domestic German-style lager I've ever had, the flavour is perfect to style.
M: Crisp, clean, easy carbonation with a great structure. Again brilliant in this style.
D: Fantastic beer in the German tradition. A surprising beauty, this is how lager brewing in America should be done.

On-tap at Taps (Brea)
A: The pour is sort of dark for a Helles. Amber in color with a finger of white head.
S: Smells is pretty light, I must say. Some decent enough bread and floral hop aromas and certainly some lager yeast is there.
T: The flavor is mostly bread with a touch of sugar and corn syrup. Some floral and maybe earthy hop notes and a minimal bitterness. Pretty clean, though.
M: The body is light to medium with a moderate carbonation.
D: Pretty well done, especially for Taps. Maybe not a true Helles, but not bad at all.

Stopped in at Taps for a couple pints and dinner with my wife to celebrate 15 years together without killing each other. Really, she's a keeper and also enjoys a good beer, especially tripels. But I digress...
Taps' Helles Lager was one of eight beers on tap and seemed to be a good choice for the lighter fare we would consume. It had a good clear dark gold color, vigorous carbonation, and a soapy white head that hung around a while and was easily resusitated by swirling the glass a couple times.
The nose had a dominant malt component that played off well against the modestly herbal hops aroma. Biscuity malt flavor and and the solid hops bite made for a solidly constructed brew. Not as highly hopped as a pils but still possessing an even balance of the two components. Feel was medium/light, crisp and refreshing.
Overall, this version of the style seemed to be in keeping with the description of a Munich Helles Lager. I went in for a second pint and enjoyed both. Worth a try.
