Appearance: Pours a 2 finger head, clear brown and tan.

Smell: steeped caramel malts and rye malts.

Taste: Opens with an upfront rye malt profile. Darker and mildly roasted malts take over the profile leaving a clean and refreshed palate. One dimensional but very sessionable despite the abv.

Mouthfeel: Light bodied with medium carbonation.

Drinkability: I would definitely have this again. I recommend this a bock lover who enjoys the rye profile. Highly drinkable for an 8% brew.

Had a pint at the new Astoria Bier & Cheese Ditmars. Appeared a dark red with a thin head. The carbonation was low and the mouthfeel was a little off, but this was a big, tasty beer. There's a subtle spice from the rye, but the big caramel wheat malt dominates with gentle fruit esters and a little kick of hops. The body wasn't too thick, and the right elements are there, but I'll stick to Aventinus.

Long Island Beer-Purchased on the Island at Bay Shore Bev.

Pours some what murky darker copper amber. Minor lite tan head, goes to a tiny bubble film and leaves some faint sheets and minor delicate lace.

Nose is dominated not by the advertised rye, but instead by honey and sweet malt.

More honey, vanilla and maltyness picked up on the palate/

Ehh, nothing too special going on here, tastes more like a scotch ale then a rye beer. Not worth seeking out, but would work to be par of a marinade for some pork or chicken...

A - Amber pour, no lacing of note. white foamy top settles quickly.

S - Spicy rye smell and scent of cloves. A bit of a floral aroma as well.

T - Taste has some traditional hefeweisen notes; banana and cloves hit the taste buds. The finish has more of a bite of spice and fresh rye bread.

M - Easily drinkable, but the spice tends to be a tad heavy handed. No carbonation of note, and light feel.

O - Rye beers are fun to try, though I usually don't fall in love with them. This offering from Port Jeff is in that lot. Certainly worth trying for those who like the style, but not a beer I'll kick back and have a bunch of.

Pours a toasted golden color with a fizzy white head that quickly settled into a sparse cap.

The aroma is musty, sweet and spicy. Nice clove scent from the yeast. This goes along with a perfumey floral note and light lemon. Some peppery notes. Reminds me of some homebrewed saisons.

Not as clovely in the flavor as some overripe bananas pop through. Mellow bready malt base mixes nicely with the yeasty flavors. Some pepper spice perhaps from the rye but not much else; perhaps it adds to the bready malt flavor.

Full feel with soft carbonation. Extremely smooth and creamy. Sweet on the palate but nicely balanced.

An enjoyable blonde weizenbock. Big and bready with good yeasty flavor, though could use more boldness. Perhaps more spicy rye.

On draft at Tap N Barrel, Hauppauge, NY.

Poured a light copper hue with a two finger frothy white head. There was good retention and very good sticky lacing.

The smell featured a fruity ester, sweet caramel, rye spice and a grassy hop.

The taste was likewise busy with fresh bready grains, a light rye spice, full esters and a drying grassy hop.

The mouthfeel was clean with a dry finish.

Overall a tasty and complex rye beer. Fresh as fresh can be.
