Pours out black.
Smell is ok with burnt malt tones.
Black ipa is one of my favorite styles so I was excited to try this local offering.
It has a burnt malt taste with a hint of hops at the finish. Some slight chocolate notes. Overall I did not find the taste all that appealing. I hate to knock a local but there are a number of better options on the market.

Picked up a growler at Ronkonkama Beverage while home visiting friends and family in NY. I am always amazed each time I go home; it seems there are more breweries opening up on Long Island. I wanted to try something local and this just caught my eye.
Dark, murky brown color but little head besides a creamy cap. Nose is mostly muted but has bits of malt and grapefruit. Flavors are mostly chocolate and coffee with some late citrus hops and some sourness in the aftertaste. Mouthfeel is exceptionally smooth and chunky. Alcohol is mostly obscured, which is clutch. Plenty of flavor. Decent for the style.

Enjoyed on tap at Bobbique. Poured a dark brown/black. Slight off white head that did not last. Scent was limited, not too much of anything, maybe some roasted malts, maybe some coffee scents. Taste was very pleasant. I like the mellow combination of roasted malts and slight hoppy bitterness. I got a bit of roasted malts, and as in the scent some coffee. Mouthfeel was unobtrusive, on the thin side. Overall, not great but a very drinkable and enjoyable brew. Hoping pj brews keeps at it. Looking forward to trying some more.

On draft at The Good Life, Massapequa Park, NY.
Poured a deep brown hue with a one finger foamy white head. There was decent retention and lacing.
The smell featured a rigid roasted malt coupled with flashes of grassy hop.
The taste consisted of a moderate burnt malt, with some charcoal and a bit of dry coffee. Balmy hops rounded out the experience.
The mouthfeel was typical of the style.
Overall a tasty hopnforward black IPA.

Poured recently into a flute.
Appearance: Nice deep dark brown, poured gently creating a 3/4" light tan head.
Smell: Smell to me is sup-bar, nothing spectacular.
Taste: I like the way Low Tide goes down, my problem is taste is somewhat the taste leaves pretty quickly. Comes off bitter, slight hint of roasted hops.
Mouth: Medium carbonation, but flavor just sticks which is good. Much better feel I personally I believe than other "black IPA's"
Overall: Pretty good beer, might need a little of assistance on the IPA level..most times when I think of an IPA I think of bitterness, I wish someone would just bring it back into the "Dark or Black" ones.

Pours a clear deep deep brown color with a tight off-white head that left a sheet of lacing on the glass as it dissipated.
The aroma is quite weak for the style. I pick up a light twang of floral/grassy hops but that is it. Perhaps a touch of grapefruit. Don't pick up anything from any roasted malt additions.
The taste has some bitter roasted notes from the malt and a solid piney bitterness from the hops. The flavors aren't very complex. There seems to be a weird breakfast cereal flavor (perhaps vegetal/celery, I dunno its weird). I would like to see a tastier roast and hop profile.
Moderate feel with tingly carbonation. Hoppy and roasty bitter throughout the palate. Ok I guess, a bit dry.
I dunno, the beer hits on some of the style points but has some odd characteristics. Needs some tweaking.
