Part of my Grammy turns 92 Long Island beer haul.
Dark root beer brown black pour sits opaque black. Towering Kahlua mudslide beige head settles into a thick layer that splashes around until reaching the bottom of my glass.
Smells like milky roast malt with a strong vanilla tone. Mild campfire smoke as it warms.
Tastes good. Acidic vanilla roast malt up front and dark wheat bread.

On-tap at Idle Hands, New York, NY
A: The beer is very dark amber in color. It poured with a half finger high tan head that died down and left a ring of bubbles around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of dark, roasted malts are present in the nose.
T: The taste is similar to the smell but the flavors are stronger and have notes of chocolate malts along with a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels nearly medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer has some nice roasted malt flavors but is still very easy to drink.

22oz bomber
American Porter is not my favorite style - there's some really nice ones but not a lot of differentiation amongst the rest IMO. The Port Jeff offering looks nice - ebony body, creamy chocolate lace with some nice retention. Aromas of dry cocoa, roast and char. The flavor profile is standard - heavy on the roast, nice lingering flavors of char and cocoa. A touch of cola, green leaf hops, burnt espresso. A fine Porter - not upper echelon but worked well for me on a rainy night.

Had this on tap and in a 22 oz. bottle. Drinking in a glass poured from the bottle right now, and that is what I will be reviewing. I may have enjoyed it more on tap, though.
Reminiscent of cola, yet... black. No light shines through. Yippee!
I can't decide what I want to say for smell. It has something to it, maybe vanilla? But it mostly smells like... beer. It's neither pleasant nor off putting.
The taste is thankfully an improvement. The vanilla goes away a bit, here. Malts come to mind, a nice dark and full-bodied malt taste, with hints (and I mean hints) of sweetness of vanilla, and perhaps chocolate too.
Mouthfeel is good. Kind of... sticks around, lets you know you've just had something to drink.
I am enjoying the stuff right now.

Port Jeff Porter - Growler from DeCicco's in Ardsley, NY
Pours dark, dark brown, minimal head, leaves a minor collar, no film and a few strands of lacing and a few fields of tiny bubble sheeting.
The sniff reveals just some faint dark malts.
Tasty enough porter, with ample chocolate and dark malt notes. Also some vanilla makes itself known. Carbonation on the low side, which seems fine for the style. Moderate roastyness. Decent, easy drinking porter. Nothing super special, but a respectable, everyday kinda brew.

Port Jeff Porter
12/3/12
Growler from DeCicco's
Very dark brown with some ruby highlights. No head really. Some spots of lacing. (3)
Aroma is fruity and chocolatey. British ale yeast? Good complexity, but not too clean. (3.5)
Flavor is very chocolatey. Not much roasted malt, just straight heavy dark malts and heaps of dark fruit. I really dig the complexity of the malt, I just want a few more BUs thrown in to balance the beer. It's not sweet, just rich and thick. Mouthfeel is severely under-carbonated, but I can't judge too harshly since it is a growler. Great body overall. (4, 3)
A fruity-yeasty English porter. Excellent malt flavor, though not as clean as it could be. (3.5)

Pours out black.
Smells nice and malty.
Has a very nice malt taste with some chocolate tones that finishes nice and smooth. The honey is there but subtle.
I have had this porter multiple time and in my mind it's probably the best brew of what these guys make.

I truly loved this porter. Tastes of dark chocolate with some hints of raisin and dried figs. Balanced toward sweet but not lacking in bitterness For all its richness it drank rather quickly and got so much better as it warmed up. I will buy this again
