Appearance This one is bright yellow and clear in the body with a nice, big white foaming head that left little patches on top of the liquid.
Smell The light grainy malt has the traditional lagered smooth aroma that Ive come to appreciate in the style. The hops are almost pilsner-like but very laid back and definitely in the background.
Taste The malts here are typical European grain with the lightest hint of sweetness at the end. I could have done without that, but otherwise this is not a bad beer.
Mouthfeel This is not quite medium in the body. It has some light carbonation and is respectably smooth in between the cheeks.
Drinkability Well, its not the prettiest girl in school but I still wouldnt mind taking her out.

On tap at some restaurant outside of castle Bran. Food here was OK, but this beer was pretty terrible.
The beer pours a golden amber color with light lacing and minimal head retention. Alas, this was to be as good as things would get. On the nose, I'm not getting much. Just some light cereal grains and light sweet malt. The flavor profile replicates the nose in this insipid swill. This is a pretty watery glass of beer with not a whole lot of flavor. Mouthfeel is fairly light, with a short, watery finish. Alcohol is all but undetectable, but who cares? This isn't a beer that even a dedicated AAL drinker would want to drink in any sort of quantity.
Shrug. This is pretty crappy stuff. I'm very happy it's not available out where I live. The restaurant brought me the wrong size pour (300 ml instead of 400 ml), which initially pissed me off. After half a glass, I was very appreciative of the restaurant mistake.

400ml keg from Caru' cu Bere, Bucharest (15.5 lei):
Pale, fairly clear golden with a 2cm frothy white head that settles at a half cm tall with a little more at the sides. It's a light, basic nose with corn adjuncts & faint grassy notes maybe a little biscuit but there's not much to it. The taste is pretty bland & basic too sadly, some corn & faint grassy flavours again, bread & pale malts with an earthy bitterness but it's very light & unexciting. The body is quite light, not thin but definitely basic with a subtle tang & strong carbonation but overall its bland without being watery & very forgettable.

Pale yellowy appearance...quite watery, not much head or life happening...a bit overtly foamy.
Aroma is kind of deep and musky malt...with light hops and some hints of oregano...not sure where that comes from ; ) But actually, it's quite a cool, dry, unique aroma. I like.
Taste is quite dry, which I usually like. It's kind of a little flat tasting though. Mouth feel is quite complex and interesting however, and the taste changes as you drink it. Hops kind of kicks in at the end after the initial dryness. But it needs a little more hops ; ) It totally reminds me of Pan beer in Croatia.
Overall this is great value and better than most other budget pilsners. I much prefer Ciuc however as it has a bit more life...but sometimes I prefer this.
As an apparent best or most popular beer in Romania, in comparison with other countries, this is fairly terrible. Ursus "Premium"? Maybe to Ursus, but in general any beer that calls itself "Premium", is not premium.

Today is W, 13 Mai 2020 & I am in deep isolation during the COVID-19 crisis, giving me ample time to clear out my backlog. This one will CANtinue a few days of imports for The CANQuest (tm). This one came to me from local, in-person trader @tone77 following a trip to Italy!
From the CAN: "Regele Berii În Româna (The King of Beer In Romania)"; "Fondat La Cluj În 1878 (Founded in Cluj in 1878)"; "Produs din Ingrediente Naturale, Cu 100% Malt și 2 Tipuri de Hamei (Made from Natural Ingredients with 100% Malt and 2 Types of Hops)"; "Prietenii Legendare. Bere. Distractie. Aventură. (Legendary friends. Beer. Amusement. Adventure.)".
I was impressed by the 0.5-L CAN's size so I Crack!ed open the vent & beCAN a slow, gentle C-Line Glug into the awaiting glass. I got some beautiful foaming action that resulted in the formation of two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, bone-white head with decent retention. Color was a beauteous Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 - 5) with NE-quality clarity, causing The Gelt Gang of Midas, Croesus & Mammon to suddenly appear, all wanting a taste. Nose had a pleasant breadiness, but not a lot in terms of hops bitterness. Mouthfeel was thin-to-medium, about on par for the style. The taste was bready and there was a pleasant grassy Noble hops bitterness, but there was also a metallic twang that I have not exbeerienced in quite some time. It had nothing to do with the aluminum cylinder (CAN) in which it was housed & everything to do with cutting corners somewhere along the line. I am not going to characterize it as being downright unpleasant since I have had far worse, but CANversely, I have also had far better. Given that there seem to be a LOT of Romanian beers, this would not be my first choice as a result. Finish was semi-dry, but by that point, I wasn't really diggin' it. YMMV.

I brought this beer back home from a trip to Rome. Poured from a 16.9 oz. can. Has a golden color with a 1 inch head. Smell is mild, some malts. Taste is malty, sweet, some metallic notes at the finish. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a mediocre beer.
