Pint at C'est What.
Poured a hazelnut/red with no real head (typical C'est What style - filled to the brim), and only a bit of a lace. Nose has some toasty malts, dark marble bread, caramel and light grassy and woody notes. Taste has loads of malts and caramel flavour, a touch of grass and tree bark (maybe again a bit of a woody note? Not that I've ever chewed on tree bark...). Mostly malts and sweetness but a bit of bitterness in the finish. A somewhat subdued alt character that others I've had but, really nice all around and perhaps more up my alley than other examples of the style. Medium mouthfeel with a fairly low carbonation. Smooth feel, good weight and all around conducive to consumption in large amounts. I want more of this around this winter.

On-tap at Betty's
Deep copper/red, about a finger of white head, fair bit of lace here as well. Smell is big and malty, caramel and bread, toffee, some earth and floral hops, subtle hints of smoke as well. Taste is also big and malty, lots of breads and caramel, mild sweetness, light-med bitterness with earthy floral hop flavours. Medium-light carbonation, medium-ish body. This was a very enjoyable Alt, a very drinkable beer and something I could drink all night easily.

On tap at Burger Bar. Mahogany coloured body, no head. Malty though not exceptionally rich aroma. A little hoppy taste, with toasted malt. A tad above average mouthfeel, however also a little sour and astringent. Not very complex, drinkable as it provided the finish to the IPA. OK for the style. Carbonation a little aggressive.
