Poured from the bottle into a tasting snifter.
Appearance: Pours a slightly cloudy amber with a quarter finger of off white head. The head sticks around pretty well.
Smell: There is a ton of oak in the nose. The wood is joined by an herbal note. The background is sweet with a slight citrus note as well.
Taste: This is a very herbal beer and it has a huge oaky/wood presence. It's quire sweet which I expected given the abv. The oak dominates the flavor and continues through the finish.
Mouthfeel: The body is medium to syrupy with smooth carbonation and a really dry finish.
Overall: This is an intensely woody beer. I was glad I got to try it, but I don't know that I'd need more in the future.

finally cracked this guy open and may was there stuff flying all around in the beer. quite murky and light, but very delicious. quite drinkable and lots of flavors in this one as it rolls across your tongue. wish I had taken notes when this first came out.

Admittedly a bit past it's prime, still incredibly tasty, though the malt profile definitely dominates the palette, with the hops taking a back seat. Pours a slightly hazy amber colour, thumb of head with nice sporadic lacing. Loads of caramel and musty hops on the nose and a hint of fresh baked bread. Booze is almost absent, making it insanely drinkable, sweet caramel, hints of bitter citrus rind, a touch of oak and a bit of ABV heat in the belly. All around a very tasty brew, but certainly would've offered up a bit more complex profile in its prime.
