A really dark pour, looks black to me, with a 1 finger head of foam with some great lacing.
I get a big fruity tartness on first smell, second smell..some hints of chocolate and vanilla. Blimey, the label mentions the latter 2.
Fruity/vinegar sourness and vanilla up front in the taste. Some sugary sweetness mixed in there that is nice but confuses my palate somewhat. It finishes sour and gives me a blast of the alcohol.
On the upper end of medium bodied with lively carbonation, it's a good mouthfeel here and is pretty drinkable.
I think this is a very good take of, based on my limited experience with, the style. It's surely worth a try.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.
Appearance - Pours with a huge cream head. Deep red/brown body. Never quite settles.
Smell - Very acidic. Nice cherry acidity. Lots of malt and vanilla.
Taste - The malt comes out more here. Malt, oak, and vanilla come through nicely. Extremely sour, but it drops off after the initial taste.
Mouthfeel - Well carbonated. Over sour, but nice.
Overall - I rather enjoy this. Great barrel flavors.

Poured in snifter at brewery. Appearance is a dark brownish red with tan head. Heavy lacing left behind. Nose features tart and sweet qualities with notes of cherry, oak, red wine, and vinegar. Taste has mild tartness up front with a healthy dose of cherry and a bit of tartness at the back of the palate. Not super tart, but definitely some acid. Mouthfeel is light and has low carbonation for style. Overall, a nice and approachable oude bruin with a high amount of sweetness for the style.

750 ml bottle with cork and cage. No date but I know it's from the first bottling.
Served slightly chilled in a tulip glass, The Meddler is a dark redish brown color. It has thick off-white head with great retention and nice lacing left behind as it slowly settles.
Aroma is both roasty and sour, about in equal measure. It has elements that remind me of their porter, Cutthroat, but also some nice wild yeast notes.
Flavor is definately more sour than roasty. It has a nice lightly toasted malty base but the yeast is really the star. Great sour/tart flavor and good balance keeps it from being overpowering.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied and perfectly carbonated. Alcohol is noticible but not a dominant characteristic.
Overall a really nice version of the style. Going up against the establishment in Fort Collins, the almighty La Folie, The Meddler can certainly hold its own.
