Enjoyed at Papago’s Brewing Up Hope beer fest, poured in a pilsner-style tasting glass.
A watery look, milk chocolate-brown, very light and clear at the edges. Big, watery bubbles make up the head but disappear quickly. Apparently, the muslin bag filled with coconut shavings that was inside the cask broke open, so there were some white floaters in the glass. A very cask-like appearance.
Smells like a slice of coconut cream pie. Super-fresh coconut with a backdrop of cocoa nibs and some toast. Sweet, chocolatey, coconutty.
Wow. Fresh coconut also rules the flavor, making the thing taste like a handful of coconut shavings. Slightly bitter toast and dark chocolate in the background. Some peanut skins appear before another flash of coconut at the swallow. Light but balanced, and a little sweetness.
The watery body is maybe a shade under medium-light. With almost no carbonation, it goes down like water.
Great coconut flavor in this one. Good balance, very drinkable. A little more body and maybe a touch more roast would make this world-class.

Cask at the 2011 Small Batch Festival.
Pours a dark chocolate brown color that is completely opaque with a one finger yellowish beige head that slowly fades into lasting cap. The glass is left Coated with soapy lacing
Silky sweet chocolate aroma with lots of toasted coconut and subtle roasted malts. Hints of lactic cream, milk chocolate, toffee and coffee bean.
Medium bodied but on the fuller end with a silky smooth toasted coconut flavor. Nice balance of sweet and roasted notes with hints of milk chocolate. toffee and slight coffee bean. Kind of like a rich chocolate coconut shake. Awesome!
