A: Hazy gold with practically no head.

S: Funky apricot, grassy, wheat and some grain, barnyard funk, some sourness, overripe fruit, pear, apple, pepper, earthy, and small suggestions of oak.

T: Light to medium sourness, moderate funk - barnyard, wet hay, white pepper, grassy, overripe fruitiness, green apple skin, pear, apricot, some malt/grain, light woody/earthy notes, hints of spice and bitterness from a buried hop profile.

MF: Medium bodied, appropriate carbonation, some sour notes.

O: This is not a bad beer, works well as a Belgian inspired Golden Ale with wild yeasts. The Brett is there with some noticeable funk, but its quite manageable. Decent and enjoyable for something that is not right up my alley.

Served at the brewery. Appears a slightly cloudy orange/gold with a cm of white head. The nose has heavy Belgian spices, notes of clove, oak, and white grape. The taste is hop heavy with tons of herbal and earthy hops on top of a spicy Belgian pale base. Mouthfeel is light and bubbly. Overall, the hops really take center stage here. I was expecting a little more funk, but it was quite absent for a wild ale.

Poured on tap vintage 2012, at Odell's brewpub in Fort Collins. 3-4 oz. sample. From notes.

A classic golden amber, almost hinting at bronze, with barely a white head presented. Collar always manages to stay. Clear with lively carbonation but not excessive.

Bouquet is a giant whiff of buttery oaky character. Huge buttered oak (American oak?) much like a classic booming Chardonnay with hints of honey to go with it and not a giant oak bomb. Malt presence is toned down, not particularly sour or either barnyard character either. A chard's lovers dream beer so far, extremely impressed.

Palate matches the sense of buttery richness. Malt depth carries hints of butter and lots of deep oak, and then even finishes with just a kiss of honey on the finish. An absolutely luscious and full and mellow palate, with large depth, almost getting into fatty bacon territory. Manages to even pull off just a hint of crisp carbonation ever so slightly.

A real impressive piece of work, and one unique tasting brew.

Poured from tap into half pint at brewers republic in co springs. Pours a hazy creamy orange with thin white head. Slight malt aroma and slight yeast...its a very mild aroma brew. Taste is big orange citrus with sweet malts and slight yeast profile. I expected a lot more wild in this beer. Its way over sweet over malted...but the flavor is good. Worth a try but so glad I didn't buy a bomber...

Appearance - Served in a six-ounce sampler. Was very basic looking. Dark orange/yellow. Thin head.

Smell - It smelt complex: spicy, laden with subtle fruit notes and even some belgian sugars.

Taste - We decided it tasted like bananas and whiskey ultimately. But it was very interesting for a golden ale. I would have suspected it to be an American take on a BPA or Biere De Garde if it were a blind test.

Mouthfeel - fairly pleasant, but nothing to write home about.

Overall - very interesting, complex and a traditional-ish approach to a new American style. Would order it again! (Also, it's strong as hell).

Pours a dark golden with a touch of brown to it. Slight white head and lacing. Smell and Flavor follow match with a nice oak element, some sweet green grapes and apples, and all being held together from the strong malt backbone providing further sweetness. A nice full bodied, creamy and smooth mouthfeel. Overall, a good beer and definitely enjoyable.

Had a few pours at the Night of the Funk 2010. I was looking forward to this but it really disappointed.

Pours a somewhat-hazed orange color with a fairly-large white head and some nice lacing as it makes its way down the glass after a few good swirls. There are some slight fruity notes and a bit of Brett. Some earthy character.

The taste is the big letdown. There really just isn't all that much going on, and I had this very early in the evening. There is some Brett, stone fruit, oak, and a bit of funk. The feel is medium with a pretty dry finish. Not a bad beer, but certainly didn't stand out.

I had this beer at Odell's tap room, as part of their co-pilot taster series. Quite a deal for what you get, if you ask me.

Anyway, in the three ounce or so glass that this beer was poured, sat a beautiful golden beer with a ton of carbonation bubbles zipping up and a nice, creamy head. Lacing was ultra thick down the sides of the glass. This was a pretty beer to look at.

Smell consisted mostly of oaky goodness with an afterhint of sour and brett and funky goodness. I didn't smell any hoppyness to the beer, but I didn't expect to anyway.

Taste was more pronounced on the sour and less on the oak. The sour was a lot of lacto upfront, with a strong backing of brett funk. Oak also showed up, as well as a good rounding of bitterness. The taste was awesome. I overheard many people at the tap room agreeing with me.

The mouthfeel is a bit light, with a strong, crisp, carbonic bite on the back of the trough. Alcohol also contributes to the sharpness of the beer, as well as the acidic sour nature. As such, I do need to mark it down a bit on mouthfeel. That being said, it is still quite drinkable for a 10.5% wild, oak aged, golden ale. I suggest it to anyone who gets the chance to try it.

Thanks to womencantsail for sharing this one at GRG1313’s tasting.

Pours a murky orange with a foamy orange-white head that settles to a small cap on top of the beer. Foamy swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, fruit, yeast, wood, and wine aromas. Taste is much the same with Brett-like and wood flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of wood bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with some interesting aromas and flavors.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter. 2012 bottle.

Appearance - Pushes the cork out once the cage comes off. Doesn't gush though. Big white head on an orange body. Decent retention. Slowly dissipates.

Smell - Lots of wine aroma. White wine. Slightly metallic aroma too. Bretty earthiness, but not a lot of acidity. Sweet malts.

Taste - Very sweet. Not really sour at all. No lacto presence. Lots of brett earthiness. Tons of caramel malt and that same metallic flavor lingers. Fairly bitter too.

Mouthfeel - Heavy and overly carbonated. Not sour at all.

Overall - The label touts all sorts of wild yeast and this just tastes like a bretty Belgian strong pale. Where's the sour?!

Pours an effervescent amber with 4 fingers of cream colored head. A little bit of haze to go with great head retention & nice lacing

S: Grassyness & sourness, pears, white pepper

T: Grassy, with green apple peels, grapefruit, a bit sour twang, some dirt & pears & some candi sugar up front. Pears, green appleskins, Granny Smith apple sourness, white& black pepper, a touch of grapefruit, oaky dryness, white grapes & honeysuckle as this warms, plus raspberry tartness . Finsihes with woody dryness, berry tartness, lemons & grapefruit, some sour notes that verge on the edge of funkyness, nice white pepper notes

MF: Medium bodied, lively carbonation, Charrdonay like dryness balances well with hops & fruittyness

Very drinkable, highly complex, probably not sour enough for some. I really enjoyed this. I bet this would go great with some Indian or even some sea food, loved it, a hoppy wild/sour with nice approachability with some wine-like traits

Hazy bronze pour, effervescent with a foamy white head; nice retention and lacing. Funky aroma, white wine and citrus, barrel notes. Lost Abbey tulip

A: Hazy golden orange color. Tons of carbonation, nearly four fingers of fluffy bright white head. Stays around forever. Maybe a little over carbo'ed. Might dock a little.

S: Getting that barnyard funk. Grassy hops. Green apple and some citrus just like label says. Some tart wine grape is there with the funk.

T: Tastes like a Belgian golden ale. Spicy Belgian yeast. Then that barnyard funk presents itself. Green apple and white grape flavors. If there is barrel it's minimal wine like character oak. I'll have to let it warm up.

M: It's nicely carbonated making it a light bodied medium. The ABV is dangerously hidden. Drinks much less.

Poured into a 12 oz snifter

A: Reddish orange with a solid 3-4 fingers of head

S: Really nice, like I hope for in a wild ale. A lot of sour-like smells I associate with the wild yeast strains and some nice sweeter tropical fruit notes to balance. The smell got me pretty excited.

T: Not what I expected or wanted really. Really fruity sweet and very boozy. This would have worked for me if some of the tartness would have come through, but for me it didn't.

M: Insanely over-carbonated, distracted from the taste

O: I wanted to like this, I really did. Could be because I found the taste so different from what I was expecting base don the smell. Also, I thought that it ultimately lacked the tartness (even a little would have been nice) that I have come to appreciate from a wild. I bought two bottles and will let the other age for a while, perhaps that will change my perspective.

This was a big brew so I needed a wingman to assist. Thanks B.

A: Poured a beautiful copper color. Monster three finger fluffy off-white head with lots of yeast floaties...amazing lacing and retention 30 minutes after the pour.

S: Slight fresh hop aroma, lemon zest, butterscotch, little to no sweetness, granny smith apples with an alcohol twinge.

T: First wave is grapey sourness and white wine. Body is similar to a lemon bundt cake that has combined with holiday pumpkin bread. Last wave of flavor is loaded with a sweet oaky resin and smoky char. The barrel aging makes for an evolution of flavor.

M: Mild alcoholic burn. Slightly sticky and finishes very dry. Abundant carbonation if not overwhelming. You could power a hot air balloon with this thing.

O: I don't know what gave me a harder time, the fallen mutt or the labyrinth of flavors from this titan of a beer. This beer is complex so don't go at it alone. The aging in the wine barrels really elevate this beer to something special.

750ml bottle poured into a tulip glass. In hindsight, I wish I would have held out and let this age some more, I think it would have tamed the froth a little and made the flavors more pronounced. That being said, I'll be getting a cpl more and laying them down for later!

A- Dark reddish-orange and hazy with a ridiculous amount of frothy head, so much so that i felt it detracted from the beers appearance. Very little carbonation left in the brew, no runners bubbling up my glass.

S- Really picking up the sweet wine smell,laced in with citrus. If I could say summer had a particular smell, this is reminiscent of it for me. Evokes a good feeling.

T- The best representation of a wild ale I've had so far. Where others really have the wild yeast dominate, this one has a balance that makes it much more drinkable for me. It is sweet throughout, also somewhat peppery. Some sourness, similar to the acidity in a lemon, tangelo or grapefruit. Theres alot packed in there and its still not overwhelming, cant detect the high ABV as a result.

O- I'm very impressed. On the short list of my beers to remember this year. And I think this one will be even better when aged!

750 mL bottle courtesy of skycracksopen. It was poured into my Bruery tulip.

Deconstruction pours a lightly hazy orange, with about three fingers of fluffy white foam crowning the beer. Head retention and lacing are both surprisingly good for a high ABV wild ale. The nose is highlighted by some fruity white wine aromas, with supporting notes of alcohol and cracked black pepper. The flavor profile leads off with some peach centric stone fruit notes. Some clove and pepper phenols follow, before a vinous acidity jumps to the forefront. A muted earthy funk then fades in to provide a mild finish. The body is fairly dry, especially considering the ABV. Carbonation is a little low though, leading to the mouthfeel feeling just a bit flabby. I love the idea behind Deconstruction, and the end result is a very fine wild ale.

Blind BIF 7 beer review:

Pours a dark golden color with an ample white head. 4.0
Big smell of Brett fats off the giant head. Further smelling leads to more flavors of Brett and additional light apple. Smells pretty nice. 3.5
The taste is confusing. The presumed Brett not only drives the flavor, but dries out the finish substantially. First pass, a bit of metallic joins smaller amounts of malt sweetness. More time and the beer opens up to bring more of that apple flavor, no more metallic and improved balance of sweetness. It reminds me of some odd combination of Fantome Extra Sour and Jacks Abbey Biere De Garde Brett beer. That slightly fruity sweetness that emerges over time and the (again presumed) Brett dryness are clearly not for everyone, but I am digging it as I explore further. 4.0
At first, this beer was over carbed with a medium body and some fear that I would never get through it. As its opened up, it's become highly drinkable. I am having trouble with the ABV because the sweetness that normally gives things away is covered by the dryness. 4.0
Overall, I was suspicious that this would not be all that great early, but it has really grown on me. 4.0

Reveal - Odell Deconstruction. Woah! Partially wine barrel aged blend of golden ales with "wild yeasts and lacto". The presumably white wine barrels totally threw me off. Very interesting! Thanks for the awesome start!

Pours a dark golden amber color with orange hues. A ton of frothy, white head (more than can fit in a glass, this one took a while to pour). When it settles the head just stay at around a finger. Nose is very sweet and sour. Tart white grapes, apple cider, pears, sugar, a sharp tartness and not a hint of the 10.5% ABV. The taste is really complex. Honey, white grapes, tartness, sugar, crisp apples (like a Honeycrisp), pears, apricots, bready malts, yeast, a hint of clove, ginger, pineapple, papaya, grapefruit and just a little tiny bit of bitterness. The alcohol never once shows itself. There might be a little heat down in the pit of your stomach but thats it. I usually don't like golden ales but this is beautiful. I'd like to get another one and put it away for a bit and see where the yeast takes it.

I feel like this beer is damn near perfect and its not even my favorite kind of style. It has so much complexity yet its elegant and it works well with itself. Sometimes the more complex beer have flavors that fight each other, but these work so well together that I actually had trouble picking out the individual flavors I was tasting beyond white grapes and honey. I just brought some of the scores down to 4.5 because it isn't quite perfect but its about as close as most beers could dream of being.

Latest offering, I presume.

At cellar temp, the cork shot out of the bottle when I removed the cage so, watch out!

The foam goes all crazy when I'm pouring..it keeps on growing and growing. The beer looks a slightly hazy gold but it still occupies only 1/4 of the glass.

The smell has a lot of but not necessarily strong malty and tarty notes to it. Spicy too. Faint hints of Brett. 42% aged in wine barrels...I expected a stronger tart presence.

The taste is spicy, has fairly big notes of bread, some mild tartness being of the fruity kind. Big booze here. Very warming and it's going to cut the drinkability big time. Some earthy malty notes is what I'm getting now. Whoa...this is a real beast of a beer. I predict I'll need to chew on a few Tums shortly.

I say this is full bodied, carbonation is lighter than I expected after the cork shot out of the bottle.

Overall, a rather difficult beer to drink as is and imho, not one I'd see improving with age, but I could be wrong. I guess I won't find out. One and done, for me. I'll stick with The Meddler, thank you very much.

Pours a murky crimson gold, pretty still, two fingers of dense white head that laces nicely.

Rich smelling stuff - warm boozy grains, funky corn starch, pale fruits... blueberry & melon, a touch of citrus, invitingly sweet but balanced nonetheless.

When I had this last year I remember thinking it was overwhelmed by the wine barrel - not the case here. Funky hot fruits play alongside sweet bread/caramel. I actually wish there was more wine barrel here... I'd be very interested to see how this one evolves with time. Not quite enough 'wild' for my liking but still plenty of other complexities to keep things interesting.

Surprisingly drinkable, exceedingly delicate.

The cork popped out on its own immediately upon loosening the cage - sounded like a gunshot!

Poured a deep gold color, slightly hazy with lots of carbonation; thick and chunky head. Aroma came out with a mixture of floral hops, fruit (oranges & lemons), caramel, and a bit of spice. Bitter and tart flavor with a nice malt-like backbone; slightly buttery; a decent alcohol warmth creeps in near the finish. Crisp and sharp, medium-bodied; acrid, tingly and zesty on the tongue.

I don't have a lot of experience with wild ales, but this one holds my interest. Crazy mixtures of flavors and feel combine into an odd but appealing taste overall. An interesting beer to sip and discover and experience a variety of nuanced tastes.

this is pretty epic stuff, worth the 15 dollar price tag for sure. pours a rich autumnal red color with a tall and dense off white head last leaves pretty lacing all over the glass. the smell has a lot going on, im picking up red wine, oak, spicy yeast, alcohol, golden raisins, and something tart and puckery. the flavor is equally complex, fruity from the yeast but made almost hot on the front of the tongue from the alcohol and the funky lacto making this beer rather piquant. iver never had anything quite like this. the barrel aging does a lot of the flavor, adding some dank earthy tones and some acidic properties and fruit esters. the feel is great, fuller body for a golden ale, just layered in texture. ultra effervescent carbonation and high abv make it sting a little bit. overall one of the best odell brews out there, which is saying something, because everything they make is excellent. it went perfectly with some homemade yak sausage over smashed purple potatoes, and heirloom tomato salad, and fresh green beans. it brings summer and fall together like no other beer ive had can do. deconstruction is much more than the some of its parts, this is special liquid.

Huge bang comes with the pop of the cork. Head rises large and with white foam. Brew is cloudy light brown with lots of orange and some slight red. Some rather strange spotted lacing too.

Funky red grape scent. Smells slightly tart. Green apple is also present. Lots of farmy scents. Tangerine is there too.

Very smooth middle with rough edges; its a good thing. Heat is mildly detectable, but will fade with age I'm sure. No tartness, but quite funky in a great way. Heavy carbonation and medium body.

Another very solid brew from Odell.. Please keep these great brews coming.
