A: Poured into a pint glass at about 35F, color is a nice transparent orange/yellow like a lighter version of honey. Leaves a thin head with lacing around the glass. It already looks like a great beer to enjoy on a nice day outside.

S: Smell is fresh and what I could call "sunny"--it basically smells like a nice crisp sunny morning. To be more concrete, I'm getting a bit of pear/peach/apple--light fruitiness but overall pretty mellow. Maybe a little bit of floral scent as well. However, the smell wasn't particularly full. I don't have the clearest nose right now, so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt.

T: After I let the beer warm up a bit (around 40F) I'm getting a bit of the IPA-style aftertaste immediately, which quickly gives way to a slightly citrus-y lime taste mixed with a barely-there apple (slightly, but not particularly sour). Tastes great even though my nose isn't in perfect working order.

M: Crisp, nice and bubbly like a champagne almost. Lingers after you sip it.

O: A pretty good beer that I would consider buying for friends that are newer to beer. Very approachable, refreshing and tasty beer since, in my opinion, it's certainly not as complex as other beers. It's like Corona was imagined by Coloradans (that sounds like an insult I guess, but it's supposed to be a compliment)...I could see this being a beer you'd have with nice grilled fish, steak, or chicken.

Huge thanks to JLindros to sharing this beer. Poured into a palm tulip.

A - Poured a crystal clear golden hue with a thin soapy white head that fades to leave a soapy blanket and side lacing.

S - Aromas of light honey and great citrusy hops.

T - Similar to the nose with light wet hops with light citrus. Not really a bitter finish just nice solid hops.

M - Mouthfeel is nice with light hop lingering quality. Solid.

O - Overall this is a solid apa. Very nice and super drinkable.

12oz bottle poured into a standard pint glass. The brew appears a hazed golden copper color with a finger of off-white head. The cap fades leaving a wall of lace on the glass and rising bubbls maintain a layering atop.

The aroma is herbal with pine-like hop characteristics that get grassy towards the back. A little cheesy with toasty grain sweetness hinding underneath.

The taste is herbal and piney with a soft grainy sweetness. Grassy with a mild cheese flavoring. Some sulfur comes out a bit in aftertaste. Overall it is a noce compilation of hoppy to grainy characteristics.

Thia is a medium to lighter bodied brew with a light level of carbonation. Overall this is a pretty good brew. However, it had some pretty big shoes to fill considering how much I enjoyed Odell's IPA and red when I previously had them. This brewery really knows what they are doing with hops. While the best by date was still a month or two out, I dont feel confident that this was as fresh as it could have been. I would have this again in the future regardless of being more fresh or not.

I think what makes this beer so nice is the full hop aroma and flavors, but the more balanced, maybe even subdued bitterness. The blending is done so nicely. Even hop oil quality without excess.
Classic APA appearance with gold/amber, mostly clear body covered by an initially rich head that laces and then settles out.
Enough hops to leave an oily quality on the teeth, but smooth and tasty bittering.
Solid moderate feeling with an enjoyable creamy quality.
All around more than solid APA. A very nice drinker and perfect summer quaffer.

A: Pours a clear copper color with a thick head that fades to nice lacing.

S: Mellow aroma of citrus, pine and caramel malt with some fresh grain and bit of fruit.

T: Mild taste of caramel sweetness with bit of grain and touch of fruit. Has an easy bitterness throughout and a dry finish.

F: Medium body, smooth with a nice mellow feeling.

O: Good drinker that goes down easy. Good representation of the style.

Thanks Allen for the 6er!

Pint glass
BB date of 08/15/12

A: Pours a perfectly clear and light gold straw color pale with a thin layer of soapy white stuff on top. Loose bubbles give to some lower retention. Carbonation streaming. Some light whispy tracks of lace.

S: Smell is a real nice tropic mango and peach combo that evolves into more citrus peel - tangerine. Sticky pine comes through and the aroma becomes more floral with a nice fresh catty hop pungency. Some slightly sweet pale malts underneath it all.

T: Flavors take on much like the nose just not quite as tropical. Major citrus zest with more of an orchard fruit influence. Flowery evergreens. Pale malt sugars bring a dry bready cracker presence throughout. Upper-moderate bitterness here that packs a nice little hop punch. No noticeable alcohol. Very clean hops, crisp, and oh so refreshing. Fruity and light.

M: Thin body that is even watery at times. Some sleek and resinous hop linger. Nice dryness and crisp in the finish.

D: Quite sessionable and I thought aroma was pretty stellar on this one. Flavors are there as well but for me I would have embraced even more hop character here. Still a great APA none the less. Would def recommend.

Odell's make some good stuff.

On-tap @ Boulders On Broadway in Tempe, AZ for a Colorado Tap Takeover on 5/17/12.

A: Nice, golden-yellow with a fluffy, white head. Good lace. Head fades quickly.

S: Balanced malt and hops. Some fruit. Not much else. Disappointing.

T: So delicious. Fruity, piney, American hops followed by sweet, slightly toasted malt. Dry but refreshing. Juicy mango is my description of the finish.

M: So smooth and flavorful. Juicy is a very fitting adjective, again.

O: A really good West Coast Pale Ale with a weak nose. Another awesome Odell brew.

Best by 15 August 2012, which means it was probably bottled around tax day.

Pours very clear apple juice golden yellow. One finger of dense white head, slowly relaxes to a thick foamy cap, and leaves a ton of lacing. Quite nice.

Smells fantastic. All hops - grapefruit up front, with some pine in the back. Very light and aromatic, with just enough pale malt support.

Taste is quite mellow, with the grainy pale malts coming through much more. There's a gentle wash of light pine bitterness in the back end, but it's so smooth I hesitate to call it bitter.

A little on the flat side as far as feel goes. Medium-light body, just not enough carbonation.

This is my kind of pale ale - heavily dry-hopped, so it smells great, but without the bitter hop acids. I like it a lot. Main complaint is the low carbonation. But I could drink a whole lot of this, and I don't even really like pale ales.

Poured from bottle the day it hit the shelves, though the freshness box is not stamped on the bottle...weird. Anyhow, I know this is fresh. Poured to pint glass the beer arrives a translucent pale orange color with light honey colored highlights in the light. A decent 1 finger white head with little retention, and a bit of lacing. The nose is hop-forward with notable piney, fruity tones: grapefruit and lemon. Not an assault with the hops but more hoppy than malty, with just a hint of caramel malt base. The flavor again begins with the hops, with a more tropical fruity flavor than the nose let on, the pine and citrus are present as well. Mildly bitter for the style with a gentle caramel malt base. Fruity and sweet, though quite dry. Lighter in body with adequate carbonation. Overall, this is a seasonal release that isn't bad, though I typically buy one 6-pack each release and don't come back. Better options out there.

Pours a light golden yellow with a thumbs width white head. Nice lacing. A sweet, floral and citric aroma. At first you smell the rind of the clementine, afterwards the actual fruit shows itself to give it some sweet juiciness. A wonderfully layered flavor profile to this, moreso than the aroma had led me to expect. Some clementine and lemon, some grass, some florals, even a little perfumey on top a crystal malt base. Just a mild bitterness to this. A crisp and silky medium body with some decent activity to it making it very drinkable. Overall, Odell does it again with another great and unique beer. Very bright and refreshing, will make for a great summer beer. I was bummed to see Red leave the shelves but after trying this it softens the blow just a touch.

Pours a clear light orange with a big white head that dissipates quickly.

Smells of pine, grapefruit, some cattyness, and few lighter fruit notes. Pretty hoppy and pleasing nose.

Taste is light tropical fruits up front that go into a more stone fruit and pine middle before ending on a grapefruit and bitter finish with lingering fruit notes. Killer hop flavor on this one and has a nice balance in terms of bitterness, relatively dry.

Lighter body with medium carbonation is right on.

Absolutely fantastic pale ale, that is more IPA, but a bit less bitter. Great pine and fruit notes and very drinkable.

Pours a clear golden with a thin white head. The nose is a bit of tropical fruits and pine, but a little muted. Taste is a citrus explosion to start, followed by a good amount of honey flavor, then a clean, dry minty bitter finish. Mouthfeel is rich, smooth carbonation. Overall very good, I would certainly get this again.

A - very hazy golden with tall fluffy head that retained very well
S - strong notes of pine with some citrus and florals, mild sweet caramel
T - medium pine and perfume bitter hop flavours, toasted grainy malt with some earthiness of the back end
M - lowish carbonation, strong bitterness with a medium dry finish
O - a somewhat unique hop profile for an APA with the pine and perfume creating an interesting flavour, I would call this an occasional sipper if the mood strikes you, worth a try

Must be the most perfume-like beer I've ever had. Clouds of pixie dust and after-shave lotion. Crisp and sharp with some malt underneath. Fruity with citrus fragrance but not so much of the bitter peel. Such an odd and distinctive taste but hard to put into words. Herbal with a slight sweet touch, flowery and grassy. Looks nice in the glass with decent lacing and the pale golden color.

Worth trying, but it's not in the mainstream of the style, which is a good thing in my opinion. They call it an "extra pale ale," which seems fitting.

A - Pours a rich gold with a thin head, which rapidly falls to a ring and island. Small bubbles of evenly spread carbonation float to the surface. Reasonable start.

S - Resinous/herbal hops, peach, pineapple, light breadiness, slightly floral.

T - Refined herbal hops initially. Drink becomes watery and tasteless in the middle before light fruitiness appears. Finishes with an bubblegum edge. Aftertaste is lightly hoppy with a bit of caramel.

M - Far too watery. The light carbonation is nice, but the beer need more body.

D - I would struggle to give this anything other than an average score. There is nothing particularly dislikeable about the beer, but by the same token, nothing to get excited about.

This beers pours a bright golden color with a white head.

Smell is a bit piney, citrusy, and earthy.

Taste is citrusy, earthy, malty, and a touch of pine. It makes for a very nice blend.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a crisp start, malty middle, and a lingering hoppy finish.

Overall this is a pretty good beer. Not one to turn down. Thanks to the non-brewing friend who brought it over to a home brew tasting.

A - pours a slightly hazy golden colour, finger of head with solid retention and some nice sticky lacing.

S - Easthy, musty hops, cedar and pine, with caramel coming through on the finish. Reminiscent of an ESB.

T - Again, more reminiscent of an ESB than an APA, with the musty malty caramel coming through alongside the leafy, earthy, hops. Cardboard and paper mache comes to mind, but not in a bad way. Musty caramel and buttered bread linger on the finish.

M - A tad thin and could use a bit of a carbonation boost, finishes nice and wet.

O - A tasty APA with some unique characteristics making for a pleasureable experience. Easily drinkable and certainly sessionable. I could drink a 6-er of this stuff any day.

from notes:

This extra pale ale drinks light like a refreshing pale ale, but it also has the hop profile of an IPA which will please even the biggest hop heads.

It pours a golden yellow.

Aroma is of citrus and grapefruit hops

The taste of citrus, grapefruit, tangerine, grass and pine hops play off a light malt base perfectly.

As drinkable as this beer is, at 6.5% you must be careful you don’t drink too much or you might wake up confused at 5am laying face down next to the pool.

Overall, this is one of my favorite summer seasonal beers.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle to Duvel tulip. Dated 9/28/11A, (bottled 5/28/11). Brought back from New Mexico.

A. Gold, somewhat cloudy, with white head that settles quickly and leaves just a trace of lacing.

S: Not much left here that I can detect, but some vanilla and citrus.

T: Sweet caramel, then somewhat sour, then growing bitterness that lingers.

M: Medium body and light/medium carbonation. Smooth, with some heat and neutral finish.

O: Considering that it's an old bottle, it is quite balanced and flavorful. Good complexity. Will look forward to tasting it again next summer.

A 12oz bottle with a date of 5/25/11 (which I presume is the bottling date). Picked up from my local beer specialist. Love the image on the label.

Poured into a Sam Smith's pint glass. An orangey-amber hue with considerable hazy sediment and medium carbonation. Forms a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a few minutes before subsiding. A hoppy aroma with notes of pine and resin, underpinned by sweet malt and hints of yeast.

Tastes of aromatic hops with a light malt backbone and a refreshing bitterness. Notes of pine, yeast esters, sweet malt and subtle graininess. Good body; the mouthfeel is smooth and astringent, leaving the palate dry. Aftertaste of piny hop bitterness and yeast.

Damn - very nice! Highly drinkable, if I had another I'd crack it right now. Light body and sweet malt perfectly balanced with a hefty dose of aromatic/bitter hops. Too bad it's a bit pricey over here, otherwise I'd make this a regular purchase. A must try for the uninitiated.

My second encounter with this beer.

Rapidly evolving nose on opening the bottle including white pepper and a husky pine. In the glass there is in an amazingly beautiful appetizing balance of strong hop, huskiness and a honey like sweetness. A one and a half inch thick head tops this beer's light orange colour.
In the mouth the carbonation never dominates but orbits around the beer periodicaly. There is agaian a huskiness and a strawlike dry bitterness from beginning to end amongst much other development. This beer lightly coats the inside of your mouth but periodically it is soft too with just a gentle touch of malt here and there.
Like their IPA, not huge, not chest beating but firm and strong with so much character and development. Another total winner from Odell.

Odell Lupulin Pale Ale: This seasonal from Odell has a rich golden body topped with a pillowy head and a great aroma to drawn in slowly. It is very smooth, almost a luxurious feel to it, with flavor that is full but well balanced. Nice malt tone throughout with great hop flavors coming and going, but no bitter or bite. The Lupulin is an extraordinary pale ale. Congrats to the folks at Odell.
