Pours hazed orange amber with a tan head that becomes wispy. Dotted lacing and thin lines stick.

The smell is of caramel ala "red", piney/spicy hop notes and slight bread/toast.

The taste is of caramelish maltiness with light to medium toast. Spicy hops give it piney/herbal notes. Finishes dry. Finish lingers.

It has a smooth medium body with mild to medium carbonation.

An American Red with a nice hop balance. Alcohol very well-covered. An enjoyable American Red!

This could easily be mistaken for an IPA.. Great transparent red color and smells like the grassiest fruity hops. The taste is bitter grassy hops again, fruit and bitterness. I guess you could call this red based upon the color but the smell and taste say hoppy IPA.

Pours a clear, amber color. One inch head of an off-white color. Good retention and good lacing. Smells of strong hops and some slight sweet malt. Fits the style of an American Amber/Red Ale. Mouth feel is smooth, crisp, and a low carbonation level. Tastes of strong hops throughout (especially in the finish), some earthy malt, and slight sweet malt. Overall, a really easy drinking beer but nothing special.

Amber in color with a beautiful tan head.

Hop smell is strong. Notes of caramel and bread.

Has a great malt backbone. Faint bit of alcohol in the finish. A sweet touch of caramel as well.

Mouthfeel is a bit grainy in the finish.

Overall a Good beer.

This is a solid red ale, with a pronounced citrus hops characteristic.
Pours a semi-bright amber/caramel color with a just off-white head. Looks pretty darn good.
Hops up front in the nose. Citrus and slight metallic, a faint malty biscuit.
A hop forward flavor. Citrus with some of that metallic coming through. touch of alcohol. Some softness towards the end. As it warms this softness introduces a nice maltiness and bread. A good balance towards the end.
Easy drinking. Solid.

The beer pours a clear reddish-brown color with a tan head. The aroma is resiny and piney hops with some caramel malt. The flavor is piney malts with some caramel and bready malts. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. A very nice hoppy red ale.

I can't for the life of me figure out what the expiration date is, but it is sometime in 2010.
The beer pours with a frothy, two-finger thick, nicely tan colored head. The beer is a deep, concentrated red color that shows a brilliantly clear, red-copper color when held up to the light. The aroma smells of ample crystal malt and American hops; specific notes of ruby-red grapefruit, lychee, bright tangelo, some pine notes and even a hint of hemp are contributed by the hops while aromas of biscuits, lightly toasted whole grain, some sweet tea like notes and some dusty grain husk notes are from the malt / crystal malt.

Sweet tasting up front, but this plays up more of the citrus / fruity hop aspects than making this cloyingly like heavy crystal malt (which is definitely a good thing in my book). Flavors of tangelo zest, some lychee, and essential grapefruit oil jump out immediately in the flavor. The middle sees a herbaceous, sort of pine like, with a touch of menthol and hemp oil being noticed; these flavors linger and morph into the finish that has a soft bitterness that is amply tempered by the chewy, palate clinging malt character. The malt lingers in the long finish quite well with notes of biscuit like malt character and pale-toasted whole grain character. While this has a certain palate fullness to it the beer isn't overly heavy, in fact it is quite drinkable, but definitely has enough viscosity to cling to the palate quite a bit.

Despite being so dark and crystal malt influenced, this beer ends up with a very well done balance between malt and hop. There are ample hop flavors here to keep me happy and, while I was expecting it to, the crystal malt notes never get out of hand. This is quite well done and I would happily drink another couple of these.

Chestnut red color with a gleaming clarity in the light, the head drops a thick curtain of lace on the glass. Grapefruit hop aroma and a dried grassy, honey-like maltiness rest under the hops. A whole lot of hops here, bitterness is cranked up and the flavor sticks to the palate with citric rind, mint, pine sap and a tropical fruitiness. Malty even with the flexed hoppiness; grassy, toasty and a little sweet. Finish with the last push of hops that does not fade quickly at all.

A bit of a wake-up-style spring seasonal. Odell keeping it true with an old-school hoppy Red Ale.

This beer pours a clear bright red color. The head is one inch in height, and recedes quickly into a small cap of lacing lingers for a while. The aroma is a great balance of malt and hop. There is a ton of grapefruit and a ton of caramel. The taste is maltier up from with a solid bitterness coming through in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with lively carbonation, and a smooth texture. Overall, this is a really good beer. It is very flavorful and aromatic, however, the spectrum of those flavors and aromatics isn't that deep. Still I would happily drink this beer again.

This is on tap at the local Old Chicago.

A great red colour with a small but persistent head of foam that brought some lacing with it.

The smell is very hoppy with big notes of pine,some citrus, and a mild presence of caramel malt.

The taste is just as good as the smell. Very bitter pine with some citrus that's semi balanced with caramel malts. A bit of bread as well.

Medium bodied, same for the carbonation.

I had 3 pints in 2 hours. Yeah, it's pretty darn drinkable. A nice unexpected find at my local watering hole.

Bottle into pint glass
A - Clear, deep amber with touches of brown/red/burgundy, 1 finger cream head with moderate dissipation 4
S - Piney hop scent made it to my nose before I sniffed, and it shows malt background as well. Soft florals, my mind is wandering to a Ricola scent. 4
T - Malt forward with slight vanilla, moderately bitter finish, a bit of caramel on the finish/after, not the hop bitterness I expected from the scent, nicely balanced 4
M - somewhat musty to me but not in a bad way, fairly bold presence that does not ever get chewy, great carbonation from first sip to last 4
D - For what I consider a pretty bold beer the drinkability is not compromised 4
I like this beer and think it would be well received even in a large group situation. A little something for everyone. Red Ale is an all around solid selection.

A - Deep blood-orange-ruby color with an off white head that has big and small bubbles alike. The lacing is sticky and really hanging on.

S - Muted lemon and citrus, resin, weed, sweet bready and nutty malt.

T - A low pine and lemon and orange rind + citrus hop profile is working right alongside of a delicious nutty, toasty and caramely malt profile, a very tasty balance. It's still hop forward, so not entirely balanced, but I think this would be a good option as an intro beer for a new craft fan.

M - A bit on the thin side, with low-medium carbonation, I wish both were bumped up a little, but it's still very refreshing and crisp.

O - A nice red with colossal drinkability and very low bitterness. Would be easy to drink a ton of these in a sitting.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Looks like the "best by" date is 7/ 7 /11.

Appearance- Clear crimson with a nice, tight head. Lacing is standard to good. 4/5

Smell- Fruity hop character with a beefy caramel malt backbone. 4/5

Taste- Bitterness is first and foremost. All the way through the sip. This is the first beer (I think) that I can taste a bready character. After the sip it leaves a sweet stickiness on your lips. 4/5

Mouthfeel- It gets a little thicker as it warms, but otherwise it is a medium bodied beer. 4/5

Overall- Odell does good stuff. This is yet, another solid beer from them. 4/5

A: A cloudy, dirty copper in color with a finger of off-white head..nice texture. Leaves a lot of soapy lacing on all edges of the glass with a faint cap, but lots of large bubbles around the edges.

S: A fair amount of hops, but pretty well balanced by caramel, bready malts. Hops seems to be mostly citrus, but I think there's a bit of pine in here also.

T: Mirrors the smell. Citrus and piney hops with sweet caramel and bready malts providing support.

M: Medium bodied, kind of oily.

O: Not the best red ale I've ever had, but to be fair, it's a little past its best by date of 6/15/11. I would really like to try this again fresh and rescore.

Copper ale with an off white head that falls with a nice lace. The American amber ale has a great nose with lots of toffee, caramel and strong hop spice. Big malt shows up in the taste w/o some of the other flavors in the nose. Hop bite is light but pleasant. Overall, a nice amber ale that gives the senses a nice run for the money and is still very drinkable. Might not buy for home again, but would gladly get a pint in a bar for a refreshing change of pace or a great go to beer for a place with a limited selection.

Odell Red: I am a big Odell fan, and this seasonal does not disappoint. The body is a deep leather red in color. There is no haze, but it is dark enough that it is hard to see through. A big off-white head forms on top, and leaves a nice lacing during your drinking experience. The Red provides a big aroma as well, with lots of flowery hop notes. There is a firm malt base to the flavor, and a big hoppy finish. This beer is closer to an IPA than a traditional red ale, so depending on your tastes you may really like it, or be disappointed. I liked it. Also, it has more carbonation than most brews of this style, which gives it a lighter feel. Very enjoyable.

This pours medium amber with a nice frothy white head that sticks around and leaves good lace. On the nose there is a big pine component with orange peel type citrus further back. In the mouth there is instant bitterness but there is a hint of doughy malt to smooth things a bit. I wouldn't call this refined but it's not a fire-breathing hop monster either. The body is medium with a medium bitter finish.

Overall, this is a nice, hoppy amber, worth seeking out or including as an extra.

12oz bottle poured into Sam Adams perfect pint glass. Best by date is 5/3/12 so I assume this is pretty darn fresh. Thanks to eclipse54 for this one!

A: Pours a pretty reddish orange amber color. Initially about a finger and a half of reddish hued tan head. Disappeared fairly quick, but left some lacing trials.

S: Even through the dark malt bill than an IPA, I get some of those fruity hop aromas. Some grapefruit and other citrus. There are some pine hints as well. A little spicy hint from the malts as well.

T: I get a little bit on the tip of the tongue of piney hops initially. Maybe a little touch of that grapefruity flavor that I smelled. Then you get this mild spicy sweet malt kick in the middle of the mouth. It's very pleasant but sort of overpowers all the hop character. The close is crisp and dry and leaves you wanting more. Maybe some residual piney notes linger.

M: This is a medium bodied beer. Good seasonal.

O: Still have yet to meet an Odell beer that I don't like. This isn't my favorite but it's a solid beer for sure.

Poured from 12oz bottle into pint glass. Pours red-amber with a huge foamy cream colored head that laces nicely throughout. Hoppy aroma of citrus and pine, balanced by caramel and bready malts. Flavor suggests the same as the aroma. Medium body with moderate carbonation, finishing slightly bitter and dry. A decent red ale. I actually liked this better the second time around on tap!

Poured into a pint glass from a 12oz bottle.

Pours a nice perfect amber color with some slight darkness and haze to it. There is a nice 0.5 inch head that forms and has some nice dense bubbles with some off-white color. The head recedes to a nice ring around the glass.

Nose starts off with some nice sweet malt that is combined and plays well with some nice grassy herbal hop notes. Nice bready notes that are also complimented by some spicy piney hop. Herbal notes with some slight citrus is perceived as well. Aroma is a bit light.

The taste confirms the nose. Very bready and delicious. Fresh baked grainy and slightly sweet bread. Very nice. The bread is complimented well by spicy hop resin notes. Some nice grass and pine as well as slight orange and tangerine notes in the middle. The flavor is really nice and drinkable. A solid American Amber with good malt backbone and nice refreshing hop notes. Crisp and clean with a nice earthy and bitter finish.

This a good amber. Very crisp and clean with nice bready notes. Overall a good refreshing example of the style. Good malt backbone with great floral hop kicks.

Appearance - Dark Hazy Orange with no carbonation. Good amount of lacing on the side. Good head retention on the side

Smell - Citrus Hops, Caramel, Yeasts, and Malts. Fairly simple, but fairly rich

Taste - Piney Hops, Caramel, Yeasts, with a fairly strong malty backbone. Blurs the line between Red Ale and IPA

Mouthfeel - Light Bodied and moderate carbonation with the end result being rather crisp.

Overall - I'd feel comfortable calling it an IPA rather than a Red Ale, but whatever you call it, it's still a pleasure to drink.

12oz served in a SN IPA glass

A - Reddish copper body, 2 fingers of dense head that takes it's time. Thick lacing left behind.

S - Bread/biscuit malts, slightly fruity, English yeast, leafy green hops, pine, fruit bread.

T - Citrus hops up front, good malty backbone, some bready caramel, slightly toasted, pine comes through along with a blast of grapefruit citrus bitterness on the finish.

M - Creamy carbonation, medium full body, smooth feel.

Very well rounded red here. Great execution all around. The malts blend very well with the hops and yeast providing a tasty drink from front to finish.

Poured from a bottle dated 5.29.13 into a pint glass

Pours a very pretty ruby red with about a half inch foam head that stays throughout the duration of enjoying this one. Smells fantastic with a heavy dose of piny hops and some malty sweetness at the end. Tastes quite different than it smells, with the malty sweetness blending quite nicely with the hop presence.

Overall, this beer is one of my favorite offerings from Odell. As I sip on it, I am instantly transported back to my glorious days in Fort Collins as a CSU grad student... This was a beer that I always looked forward to every year, and I always had plenty on hand to share with guests at outdoor events and BBQs. Brings back memories of some of the best times of my life, and for that, I have to give this an obligatory two thumbs up.

On tap at Odell's took a growler home. The pour is a crystal clear ruby red color with a light fluffy head. Good retention and lacing but did not last through the tasting.

The nose is mostly hoppy with similar notes to their IPA. Some citrus, earthy and floral hop notes. Some other fruity notes, mango pineapples and a light herbal backing. The malt is present but is light compared to the hops. Some lighter roast notes with a hint of kettle caramel notes.

The taste is similar. The malt comes out a bit more than the nose and balances well against the hop notes. More of a generic malt note with a light roast flavor. Some barley malt notes as well with a sight caramel note. Very clean overall. The hops come out with more of a citrus taste with supporting grapefruit and earthy notes. Some minor floral hops in the finish. Very clean yeast notes.

The body is between light and moderate. A bit light for style, would have like to see more depth. The carbonation is light but balances well. Overall this is very similar to the IPA only darker and some caramel/roast notes backing it up. The body is lacking but still a good beer.

Bottle care of drumrboy22 as an extra in a recent trade, thanks man! 12oz uniquely shapped/scribed brown bottle poured into a pub glass. Best by date on the label is 5/11/11.

This brew appears a clear amber to copper red color with a finger of yellowish stained creamy head. When held to the light, some very faint particulate is stuck in suspension but you really need to look close to see it. A stream of bubbles rises to the surface and supports the cap. An interesting webbing of lacing is left on the glass after each sip. A light swirl revives the creamy froth to less than a finger which remains throughout the duration.

The aroma of this brew is fresh with hops. It smells of hoppy sweetness that is floral with a scent of citrus and pine included as well. Some grassy notes and a spiced indication is evident. As it warms, it picks up a faint green yeasty indication and a bit of mineral aspect comes into play. A light scent of caramel malty sweetness is evident but it pales in comparison to the characteristics of the hops. Overall, the smell of this brew is solid. It is reminiscent of a mini version of Nugget nectar.

The taste of this brew includes a toasty grain flavor that is somewhat caramel-like with a faint touch of must. It is clingy with oily resinous hops that taste of pine, grass and herbs. It is slightly medicinal coupled with some minerals and a green yeasty flavor comes through the backend. The 6+% alcohol is not hidden, it is evident with a warming factor and flavor which accents the herbal/medicinal aspect of the brew and really warms the back of the throat.

This is a medium bodied brew with a modest amount of carbonation. Quite easy drinking and enjoyable. This is quite the hoppy rendition of a red ale. In so many ways this reminds me of a scaled down version of Nugget Nectar. This really is a good representation of the style. With the best by date being still 2 months out, I am curious how one of these would have tasted when it was super fresh. This is only my second experience with Odell and I am liking what these guys are doing.
