Picked up a bottle in Pocatello, ID on 9.4.12
Dated 11/17/12A

A - Pours a clear medium to light orange with a nice cream colored head that is very foamy, has good retention, and leaves lots of lacing on the glass.

S - Lots of pine and grass. Some sweet citrus as well.

T - Again nice pine and citrus with more of a sweet biscuity orange. Very smooth.

D - Great carbonation and body. Thank you bottle dating! No bitterness at all, very smooth.

O - A really tasty ipa. I am glad to have found it out here. This is not a good beer town, so finding some Odell beer was nice.

Had a pint with dinner at the Tap House in Steamboat Springs last night for the HH price of $3.00. Always have to try it when available on-tap!

Beer poured a golden orange with a nice white head that left lacing behind.

Nose was wonderful, citrus hops were wonderfully strong.

Taste was extremely well balanced, a nice solid caramel and pale malt backbone was overtaken by grapefruit and pine hops.

Mouthfeel was medium bodied and smooth.

Overall this IPA is superb, definitely world class!

A 12oz bottle with a bottled-on date of July 11th 2012. Picked up from Trembling Madness in York. I've heard good things about this beer, and the label artwork is great.

Poured into a Delirium chalice. A rich golden-amber hue with faint haze and good carbonation. Produces a large head of creamy white foam with good retention; this slowly subsides to a surface layer. Nice frothy lacing. Aroma of fruity hop notes - grapefruit, orange peel, citrus and hay, underpinned by biscuity caramel malt and earthy yeast. Delicious.

Tastes of sharp, citrus-laden aromatic hops with a malty backbone and a powerful bitter finish. Notes of grapefruit, bitter orange, citrus oil, grass, mild caramel and dry, earthy yeast. A hint of sweetness and biscuity grain, accompanied by a strident bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, spicy, tingly and dry. Great body. Highly astringent, with an aftertaste of intense aromatic citrus and a hint of malt.

Superb. A top-notch American IPA with tons of aromatic hops, plenty of malt and some serious bitterness. Powerful, yet slides down all too easily. I love the Odell beers I've tried and this is no exception. Well worth sampling if you have the opportunity.

Simply one of, if not the best IPA's out there. It fires on all cylinders, every time. This brew never fails to impress even the most stingy of hop lovers. An absolute must try. Doug O'dell can retire (die?) happy knowing he's the worlds leader in American Style IPAs.

Pours a clear and true red with little to no topping.

Smells uniquely oily and citrusy with a candy coating.

Upon the first taste you realize this is unapologeticaly a Colorado beer with its big, "meaty" hops, a perfect splash of citrus, and the right amount of sweetness.

Lies on the heavy side of medium in body, but smooth going down. I can feel this one on my stomach afterwards, so plan accordingly if you're pairing with food or going out for the night.

While this beer falls in line with the crowd just enough to play the game, it carefully avoids the fatal trap of replication, and comes out on top by doing so.

Poured a hazy pale yellow with a white head.

The smell is strong citrus hops, lemons and grapefruit.

The taste is much like the smell, citrus flavour and honey with some hoppy bitterness.

The mouth feel is creamy and medium bodied with a low amount of carbonation.

Overall the citrus flavours and smells are extremely strong but pleasant.

Dark golden orange with surprising large creamy head. Pour slowly. Smells strongly of citrusy hops. Fairly strong hop taste that lingers for quite a while. This is a standard IPA. Enjoyable, and I would go back to it, but nothing amazing. A solid effort.

One of the juiciest ipas i've ever had, so much flavor packed into a beer its outstanding, the aftertaste leaves you wanting a ridiculous amount more. I wish this was an everyday item in CT, thanks Tim for hooking me up with this one, as an extra none the less.

If you havent had it, seek it out and try it. If you have access to it, buy it, a lot of it!

I've had this offering from Odell's several times and it's always struck me as a very solid American IPA. Poured from a bottle into a tumbler producing a two finger off white head.

Appearance: Nice copper hue.

Aroma: Grapefruit, citrus, hops. The effects of dry hopping really pay off in the nose.

Taste: One of the juiciest IPAs I've had! The grapefruit and slight citrus favors come through and balance very well with the light malts used. No overwhelming bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Smooth for an IPA. Not syrupy, not watery. High drinkability.

Final Thoughts: A refreshing IPA and a personal favorite. Thankfully it is a year round offering. A little on the expensive side at $10.99 a six pack but completely worth the occasional splurge. Definitely best fresh so the hops can really shine!

A couple of weeks ago, my buddy Ken asked if I wanted to grab a beer. I got there a little early, and saw they had Odell IPA on the menu. I hadn’t had that yet, and since we are new to Arizona I am trying all of these new brews. I ordered one and fell in love with the beer the second I poured it into the glass. The aroma was incredible, and the aftertaste lasted for a really long time. I am a big IPA guy… but this one takes the cake.

Tonight we are drinking from Papago Brewing. This place is sweet, and is quickly becoming our favorite place in the Valley. They have a great beer selection (both bottles and on draft) and their food is pretty good. I am hoping we can get them as a sponsor for the 1001 Bottles project. Anyway, let’s drink!

In the Glass: When we ordered the bottle, the server said, “1 bottle. 2 glasses.” He brought us two small glasses, and poured the beer for us. The beer is somewhat orange, and has a weak head and almost no lace.

Nose: The aroma is amazing. It is like a glass full of hops. The aroma sticks around for a while, and just punches you in the face. I love it. It smells like an American IPA is supposed to smell like. Let’s see what she tastes like.

Flavor: Oh. My. God. This beer is loaded with flavor, but it doesn’t knock you out with bitterness. There isn’t a lot of carbonation and the mouthfeel is just so smooth. The flavor is just what I expected from a good IPA.

Mouthfeel: A lot of IPAs have a ton of carbonation, but this one is surprisingly smooth. It starts off soft, and then the hops just kick in and overwhelm the palate. That is when the aftertaste starts and just hangs on for a LONG time.

Aftertaste: It’s still there. Man, this aftertaste is wicked. It isn’t overwhelming, but it does have a consistent flavor that just hangs on for dear life. Just when I think it’s time for another drink, I swallow… and there is the bitterness from those hop varieties. The burp is pretty great, too.

This is such a good beer. I am such a big IPA guy that finding a new “go to” IPA is always a good thing. I am not familiar with the Odell portfolio, but I can’t wait to try more. There are a few more on our list, and I am excited to try them all. Bottoms up, people!

Odell IPA - The bottle says: “READY TO BUCK CONVENTION - We took the traditional IPA, originally shipped from England to India in the 1700s, and made it bolder and more flavorful - American style. We’ve added new varieties of highly aromatic American hops to create a distinctive bitterness profile and an incredible hop character. Hop on, hold tight, and enjoy the ride.”

(By the way, I keep sticking my nose in the glass to smell this pile of hops. Love it!)

Simply my favorite go to IPA. Tastes wonderful i these hot summers here in Tucson Arizona. Citrus loaded, well balanced, and overall the best IPA I have had. This is saying alot as I've consumed many many IPA's over the last 15 years of dedication.

After downing a stout on the hottest day of the year, I switched to something lighter. This IPA could be the best IPA I've tasted. The hoppiness is well-balanced with an almost lemony taste (the bitter part of a lemon, not the sweet part). It was very crisp and smooth, easy to drink. Compared to other IPAs, this had less of a fruity taste, and I liked that. Very good beer!

Bottle poured into a tulip glass

Bottle purchased on Father's Day excursion in Wichita KS.

Golden color slightly cloudy with a decent white head.

Smell is very citrusy with a hint of sweetness in the background.

Taste is very grapefruity with a citrus bite on the finish. Very smooth easy drinking IPA.

A great IPA. Third different IPA/PA that I had from Odell and all were excellent.

tastes of very citrus spicy hops and is balanced very well

12 oz Bottle purchased in Wahlbar in Fallowfield Manchester.

Poured by the barman, minimal off-white head, lacing nicely down the sides. Copper coloured body, ambient carbonation.

Aroma is muted compared to many IPAs, that grapefruit thing takes hold primarily, but some orange, pine resin, lavender and floral perfume involved, a touch of bready malts.

Taste is, again, a little low key, the citrus notes are there, some tropical fruit and the malty biscuit, caramel undertone has a spiciness that is pleasing. It feels a decent drink... smooth with minimal fizz, but a little lacking in complexity and fails to pack the punch you might expect from a US IPA, so feels a bit ho-hom. There's a number of more intriguing IPAs available on the market in the UK at present.

Odell Brewing IPA

Appearance: golden, large head, and some lacing.

Smell: citrus and a hop-fruitiness.

Taste: bitter hops and a strong grapefruit flavor with other citrus hints.

Mouthfeel: medium.

Overall:
This has a very strong grapefruit flavor. It outdoes the hops. This seems more like a fruit beer than an IPA.

Appearance – This is a clear light orange in color with a nice, white, lasting head.

Smell – The big pine and monster orange rind are big but balanced at the nose and the malts are all but absent.

Taste – The giant hops make it righteously to the taste and the malts are again faint. The beer itself is not balanced but very hoppy.

Mouthfeel – This isn’t even medium in the body with some strong drying throughout.

Drinkability – Hopheads will love this beer but it is probably too much for the general public.

Odell IPA is on the lighter side with a smooth refreshing finish. Unlike many IPA, (I enjoy most)the Odell IPA has a complete flavor enjoyed throughout the beer. It does not have an overwhelming moment at the front or backside of each taste which allows for a refreshing tasty beer everytime. A fabulous beer for everyday IPA drinkers and beginners the same.

After a semi vigerous pour, I'm left with a glass of dark gold beer with a nice white, fluffy head. The head dissapates some, but still leaves a nice layer on top.
The smell is a little muted. I get some tropical, grapefruity notes.
Taste is definately hop forward bitterness. Nice and tropical.
In the mouth this beer shines. Medium bodied with a nice oily hop presence.

Overall this beer is great. Usually I go for the BIG IIPAs, but this is just as enjoyable when a 'standard IPA' is what you are looking for. Definately a 'must try'. Shout out to Fortsambo for this!

On tap at the brewery.

a-golden in color, lively carbonation. Poured into an imperial pint glass, laces with every sip.

s-huge aromatic hops are present with tons of citrus, grapefruit rind, and some sweetness. This is how an IPA should smell. As the beer warms, it just gets better.

t-big hop forward, but not too overwhelming. This beer has plenty of balance, but gives a lot of the citrus, grapefruit and malty backbone to the palate. The beer has a long finish, and holds on until the next sip. This is not palate wrecking, but you can tell it's a big IPA. Bitterness is welcome, and fades out after the beer is off the palate. Alcohol is well hidden here. Very tasty!

m-medium bodied, and not heavy on the tongue at all. appropriate for the style.

o-Odell rocked this beer. Well balanced, and well constructed. This IPA is a standard bearer, and has a lot going on with it. The beer is not trying too hard, and has balance and fits the IPA style perfectly.

Pours a cloudy dark gold with a finger of white head. Good lacing and retention.

Smells of citrus, tropical fruits with a little bit of an earthy spiciness.

Same flavors as aromas. Not terribly intense. Some light citrus flavors up front. A little bit of a bready chewy malt in the middle. Finishes with a little spiciness and the slightest hint of alcohol.

Light to medium bodied with medium carbonation levels.

A little different and not one of my favorites, but pretty solid.

Poured into a standard pint glass. The beer is a pure copper color. A frothy thick head sits on top and dissipates to a chunky film. Excellent lacing all over the glass. The beer smells so, so good. Sweet oranges mixed with grapefruit rind and bitter hops. The beer tastes as good as it smells. Again, some sweet citrus flavors such as tangerines or oranges abound, with a perfect compliment of bitter grapefruit. A nice clean, dry hop finish. The mouthfeel is clean and dry.

Overall, I'm very, very impressed with this IPA. I've seen this beer on the shelf for years, and never tried it until now. This beer is so tasty and full of aroma. The senses get overloaded with quality.

Got this as an extra! Thank you you-know-who!

A: Burnt orange color, 2 finger head - good retention, good amount of lacing, beautiful looking!

S: Hops, grapefruit, citrus

T: Mostly hops, grapefruit, citrus, very refreshing - reminds me of Zombie Dust, not too sweet, not too bitter (still has a good slight bitter finish). Perfect for summer! Not much lingering taste afterwards though.

M: Good amount of carbonation, very drinkable.

O: It caught me by surprise. This was my first Odell, and I am very impressed! Great beer to have (although not really a session beer) out back, when it's sunny out.

Dark copper in color with a moderately sized light khaki colored head that leaves lines of lace down the glass.

A bready aroma complemented by a bit of caramel and bittering hops.

The hop flavor comes in the way of a moderate level of bitterness, along with bready, slight caramel, sweet malts. Well balanced and drinkable, but unexciting.

Medium bodied with moderate-high carbonation.

Middle of the road IPA.
