This is a great IPA that really hits on everything you would look for in an IPA.
A: It leaves some nice legs on the glass and pours with a slight head. The color is nice and light straw color leaving a tease of what is to come.
S: citrus and very slight malt with some hints of other greatness that my nose cannot define. However, when it is right it just right.
T: Refreshing is the first thought that comes to mind but the actual flavors presented are that of hops (duh), citrus, lemon peel and pine.
M: Some brewery IPA's are pushing the envelope on flavor at the sacrifice of overall mouthfeel; this keeps it fresh and medium bodied.

Have bought pints on tap at the Odell brewery, LaLuz (South) on Boardwalk in Fort Collins ($2 a pint), and Lucky Joe's in Fort Collins ($2 a pint) many, many, many times. Have also bought six-packs of bottles. This review is for Odell IPA on tap at LaLuz.
Pours a hazy golden copper with a white creamy head and nice retention. Aroma of citrus- grapefruit, lemon, orange, and pine notes. The aroma lets you know that you are in for a real treat. Has a nice full mouth feel. The flavors are complex, well-balanced, and absolutely wonderful. The balance between hops and malt is flawless. This flavors end with a nice bitter crispness. The taste of alcohol is muted but warming. For IPA lovers, this is pure heaven. Interestingly, this IPA actually tastes better on tap at the two locations listed above than at the Odell brewery. This may be related to serving temperature. Furthermore, bottles of this IPA even when very fresh are not quite up to the stellar heights of this IPA on tap. If you are in the Fort, you owe it to yourself to indulge in a pint or two (or three) of this nectar of the malt gods.

Simply put, if you're a Hop Hound, this beer rules. Had a taste B4 diving in, and the smell alone told me I was all in. 3 talls later, all was still dead ahead. On the road in Minnesota, so on the way back to our hotel stopped 2 buy something 4 the room, and sure enough this brew was there. Easy selection, even though some other favs were present. Bottle just as good as on tap. Is it the best i've had? Prob not, cause i've had some pretty darn awesome Ipas. For a 7.0; however, I would be hard-pressed 2 find a worthy opponent. The taste rules, grapefruit domination as I type, the smell rules, and all is most good. Even the hotel plastic cup I'm using can't taint this brew (I usually have traveling glass with me, but that's another story). Bottom-line-try it 4 sure, U won't be sorry U did. Just my 2 pennies worth. CHEERS 2 ALL!

On-tap at Odell itself, on to the beer:
This IPA owns an orange color wit hues of yellow at parts of the beer. Head retention is very good and it leaves a lot of creamy lace around the glass. With an aroma of pleasant herbal hops, you know this is an IPA. Bready malts attempt to balance the nose, but this remains a hop forward nose.Taste starts off with a crackery note, then a blast of hops brings down to door. Tea, pine, and lemon are brought forth. This is a hophead's beer, no question abiout that. It's medium bodied, and just fun to drink. A great start to the Odell tap room.

Had a pint with dinner at the Tap House in Steamboat Springs last night for the HH price of $3.00. Always have to try it when available on-tap!
Beer poured a golden orange with a nice white head that left lacing behind.
Nose was wonderful, citrus hops were wonderfully strong.
Taste was extremely well balanced, a nice solid caramel and pale malt backbone was overtaken by grapefruit and pine hops.
Mouthfeel was medium bodied and smooth.
Overall this IPA is superb, definitely world class!

Simply one of, if not the best IPA's out there. It fires on all cylinders, every time. This brew never fails to impress even the most stingy of hop lovers. An absolute must try. Doug O'dell can retire (die?) happy knowing he's the worlds leader in American Style IPAs.

After downing a stout on the hottest day of the year, I switched to something lighter. This IPA could be the best IPA I've tasted. The hoppiness is well-balanced with an almost lemony taste (the bitter part of a lemon, not the sweet part). It was very crisp and smooth, easy to drink. Compared to other IPAs, this had less of a fruity taste, and I liked that. Very good beer!

On tap at the brewery.
a-golden in color, lively carbonation. Poured into an imperial pint glass, laces with every sip.
s-huge aromatic hops are present with tons of citrus, grapefruit rind, and some sweetness. This is how an IPA should smell. As the beer warms, it just gets better.
t-big hop forward, but not too overwhelming. This beer has plenty of balance, but gives a lot of the citrus, grapefruit and malty backbone to the palate. The beer has a long finish, and holds on until the next sip. This is not palate wrecking, but you can tell it's a big IPA. Bitterness is welcome, and fades out after the beer is off the palate. Alcohol is well hidden here. Very tasty!
m-medium bodied, and not heavy on the tongue at all. appropriate for the style.
o-Odell rocked this beer. Well balanced, and well constructed. This IPA is a standard bearer, and has a lot going on with it. The beer is not trying too hard, and has balance and fits the IPA style perfectly.

On-tap at Crescent Ballroom in downtown Phoenix during the Deer Tick show on May 3rd.
A: Orange-amber with a good, white head. No lace or retention.
S: Heavy American hops. Dry, piney, citrus.
T: Again, huge American hops. Bitter, dry, sweet, and refreshing. Great IPA to drink at any time.
M: Super smooth and delicious. Minimal carbonation.
O: Fantastic, consistent IPA.

On Tap
The Fox and Hound
Peoria, AZ
Dark copper in color with a moderately sized light khaki colored head that leaves lines of lace down the glass.
A bready aroma complemented by a bit of caramel and bittering hops.
The hop flavor comes in the way of a moderate level of bitterness, along with bready, slight caramel, sweet malts. Well balanced and drinkable, but unexciting.
Medium bodied with moderate-high carbonation.
Middle of the road IPA.

A: Beautiful light honey with a hint of amber. Great lacing
S: Tropical fruits, very slight herbal notes
T: Amazing, The fruit aromas lead one into thinking it may be sweet but it is simply balanced. Slightly underhopped by most standards but again it's perfectly balanced with little detectible malt.
M: Perfectly smooth. Each sip inviting another
O: The perfect go to IPA, nothing crazy, not a stunt beer just a great everyday IPA

On tap at Old Chicago.
Appearance: Dark orange, clear, with a big white foam cap.
Smell: Waves of resin and citrus hop, clementines, tangerines a bit of biscuit malt, too.
Taste: Opens with a brief splash of tropical sweetness, followed by a bucket of delicious citrus/orange and resinous pine hop flavor. Bitter throughout but does not kill the taste buds. There's an excellent malt-biscuit backbone that really ties it all together. Bitterness is long lasting into the finish but not at all overpowering.
Mouthfeel: Creamy and well balanced.
Drinkability: Must try. It's great from the bottle or tap. Delicious and easy to drink several.

A solid IPA, finally having it on tap.
Orangy color, more golden though. Bright. Nice white foamy cap, great lacing all the way through.
Aroma is subdued a bit, I'm betting b/c of the temperature at serving. usuals are there though. Citrus and some caramel. Light breadiness. Pine needles on the end
As with the bottle, this is a well balanced IPA. Not a hop head's dream, but the hops ain't shy. Citrus, zest, pine and bread. Good bite to it. Nice and bold.

Wow, wow, and wow! Had this one at the Fort Collins Canyon Chop House. Just the sweet, floral, citrusy hop aroma from a few feet away tells you this is a killer brew. And drinking it -- I'm talking ambrosia! One would be hard pressed to find a better, well-rounded, thoroughly drinkable example of an IPA.
Perhaps because it was on tap instead of a 12oz bottle, but I, at first thought, that perhaps I was served Odell's St. Myrcenary because the hop aroma and taste was so deliciously upfront and there! Well, this serving just blew me away...a hop-heads delight...!!

I enjoyed this sublime beer on tap in Denver at a local saloon, the Blake Street Vault. After a excellent, slow pull from the barkeep, which allowed the beer to aerate, I was immediately struck by the pungent aroma of the hops. Excited for my first sip, I noticed the deep golden color of the beer and the thick head. The first sip was characterized by a full flavor of hops and some bitterness. During the course of drinking, the beer remained remarkably consistent: the had stayed in tact and clung to the glass; the was true with hops earth notes. There was also a very agreeable aftertaste.
Overall, Odell's IPA is one of the best IPAs I have ever drunk!

What an amazing beer we have here! Getting this on tap into a 25 ounce glass, there is a thick lingering head of foam, and the flavor seems to get better and better as you get through the beer. I will definitely be trying this in the bottle to see what I think. A must have for anyone who is a fan of IPA's.

Malty hoppy goodness.
Produces a head full of body that sits on top of a beautiful golden-orange ale. The head lingers throughout, but is there to encourage and entice you nearly the whole way.
Smells of citrus and grass. The caramel malts are the slightly noticed (yet hard working) background crew.
Taste follows aroma accordingly. A really wonderful balance of malts and hops. Strong bittering and flavor hops are appropriately complimented by a strong malt backbone - slightly sweet and full of body.
Perfectly carbonated. Has a medium body that consistently carries the abundant flavor across your tongue.
This is a great beer. Just remarkable.

Notes from phone (10/5/11). Served on-tap at Ed's Bar in Winona, MN.
Poured into a pint glass a pale translucent gold color. Two fingers of very retentive white, frothy head and left thick lacing all the way down.
Aroma is a fruity bouquet; tangerine, grapefruit, apricot, pineapple, lemon zest. Healthy dose of pine. Slightest bit of earthy malts present.
The flavor is full of pine and zesty citrus. Touch of caramel and a bit of a doughy flavor.
Very smooth mouthfeel. Soft and creamy but a slightly dry finish. Medium bodied/carbonation.
This is one of the most drinkable IPAs I've tasted, hands down. Massively hoppy but not particularly bitter in the least.

Pours orange with a white, lacing head.
Smells of tropical fruit, pineapple, and a hint of pine. Fantastic nose on this beer.
Tastes of tropical fruit, peach, and finishes with a piney hop kick...such a good flavor here.
Lighter to medium body and carbonation with a creamy mouthfeel.
I love the flavor of this IPA. The fact that it is so easy to drink makes it one of the best IPAs I've had.

Pours clear golden with a finger and a half head that falls pretty slow. Once it does it leaves behind thick lacing stuck around the glass. Smell is fruity and sweet with some piny oily bits coming through. Taste follows the nose: citrusy punch to the pallate followed by sweet subtle caramel malt that backs the hops well - solid American IPA. The mouthfeel is quite different from what I remember when drinking it out of bottles - much creamier and smooth than I remember probably because its a little warmer than I'm used to. I love Odell's offerings, they are one of my favorite breweries and this IPA is no disappointment.
Cheers!

First had: on tap at Mayor of Old Town, Ft. Collins, CO
Best IPA I've had in a while. I generally like my IPAs hoppy. This was not TOO hoppy, but just so smooth...mmm. Well, anyway.
This poured a clear, golden yellow, with a foamy white cap. Smelled sweet, and loaded with fresh citrusy hops. Taste was not nearly as hoppy as I'd have imagined from the aroma. I know it's an AIPA, but still. Lots of hops, no doubt, but still very mild and really really smooth, with a sticky sweet malt base, and great notes of orange and grapefruit coming through. Really liked this one. Light-medium body, and incredibly drinkable.

A-cloudy gold with a frothy white head
S-stale grass, citrus peel and hops. some spice. good strength
T-comes in with a good amount of spice, grains, some tropical fruits, and HOPS. its a quality taste that makes up a matching after-taste.
M-medium carbonation with a dry finish
O-a pretty decent IPA. its not something i'll be searching out, but i enjoyed it. overall it was just a fairly boring IPA to me, though it might possibly help out some hop cravings.

Appearance – This beer is gold in color and not that dark for being an IPA. The head retention is fantastic with nice lacing that lasts all the way through drinking a pint.
Smell – The smell sells you on this beer. There is a big wave of citrus fruits (oranges and tangerines) off the aroma hops. But you don’t get slammed with big hop bitterness or earthiness.
Taste – For an IPA lover, this is a tour through a great American West Coast IPA. It’s a very smooth and balanced drink with a dryer finish. The carbonation level helps to cut off some of the hop bitterness as well. But you really taste the citrus off the hops and a little bit of herbs.
Drink – Even at 7% this is a sessionable IPA. Where many IPA scorch your tongue with IBU levels and hop bitterness, O’Dell offers a beer that celebrates American IPAs, but allows you to celebrate them all night long. It’s no surprise that Cicero’s sells out commonly when they get this beer in bottle or draft. I’d highly recommend getting it while you can!

We sampled this one at the Odell Taproom with some friends, a few Saturdays ago. Poured a golden-orange color, with a nice cap of white foam. Huge hoppy aromas, lots of citrus and pine (although I did detect a little cat piss). On the palate, more of the same: grapefruit, lemon, orange and pine, backed up with just enough malt to keep it balanced.
