A - Pours out a nice amber color with a small head. Leaves a little lacing.

S - Smelled of hops, corn and malt.

T - It had a very good hop flavor-slightly bitter. This taste was complimented by a sweet maltiness.

M - It was dry and crisp. Light-bodied.

D - It is a pretty good PA. A good blend of hops and malt.

Type: 12-oz. bottle
Glass: Hotel glass (half pint, half snifter)
From: Wilbur’s Total Beverage in Fort Collins, Colo.
Price: Part of a variety 6-pack for $9.99
Purchased: May 2, 2013
Consumed: May 2, 2013
Misc.: Best by July 24, 2013

Poured a orange amber sparkling color with 1-2 fingers of off-white head. Pretty bubbly underneath. Decent amount of sporadic lacing on the sides. Good retention all the way down.

Floral hops leads the way with the smell. Also citrus hops - orange peel, orange, grapefruit and faint lemon - with a lasting bitter, slightly resin hops finish.

Tasted more like a pale ale than the smell. Got floral hops, orange rind, grapefruit, grass hops and bread. That bitterness goes away with the taste.

Light body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Refreshing, slightly bitter finish.

A very good beer for my first try at O’Dell’s. Good thing I have a few more in my hotel bathroom sink.

[Suggested Glassware: Nonic Pint]

The pour was a cloudy medium orange with an average (1-2 finger) off white creamy head that slowly reduced, down to a large puddle of foam with a medium collar which produced excellent streaky lacing.

The aroma was of biscuit malts, floral hops and an earthy yeast with notes of caramel, toffee, citrus (grapefruit and tangerine) and a light tropical fruity ester (pineapple).

The taste was lightly sweet and rather malty with a touch of caramel and a bold fruitiness from the start, but quickly progressed into a much hoppier taste with a superb bitter citrus ending. The flavor lasted for a long while proceeding the swallow with a light sweetness hanging on, but not to be overdone by the bitter citrus flavor that eventually outlasted and lingered for a while longer.

Mouthfeel was a step or two above light in body and distinctly dry in texture with a carbonation that was just about medium in intensity.

Overall this was a delicious tasting Pale Ale with a nice sweet fruitiness that blended very well with the bitter citrus hoppiness, making this a very easy to drink and satisfying brew...

From a 355 ml bottle (best by June 6, 2013) into a globe glass.

A-A normal pour produces about two fingers of dense, off-white foam. The head drops to a pillowy cap after a bit. The brew is slightly murky, and deep golden in color.

S-The nose is nice and sharp. The hops are earthy, citrusy, and peppery. The hops balance against a slightly chalky, biscuity malt note.

T-The taste tracks the smell quite closely. The hops are a touch more assertive here than the pale malts, but the brew is reasonably balanced with a nice palate of pale malt flavors underlying the orange, peppery spice.

M-The feel is light to medium bodied with a smooth, crisp effect.

O-In the past, I was never a huge Odell fan, but recently, their beers have impressed me. Five Barrel is no exception. The citrusy, spicy notes play well with the biscuity malts here, just like they are supposed to. Is this beer a world-beater? No, but it is widely available around here (even at crappy chain restaurants), and I would happily drink this when other options do not exist.

Poured into a shaker pint glass.

The beer is a hazy amber orange with a foamy eggshell head slow to recede. Nice lacing remains.

Aroma is bright and floral with lots of citrus also. Malt presence is minimal.

Taste is slightly more balanced, although the hops overpower and sweetness ftom malts. There's a lot of tart bitterness with spicy, woody notes as well as floral and citrus.

Mouthfeel is medium.

Overall, a pretty good exploration of hops in this. A lot to like about it.

Appearance: Pours a golden orange with a creamy finger and a half of foam.

Smell: A good amount of lemon and grapefruit with some mild earthiness. Smells very clean and just a tad soapy.

Taste: Follows the nose with nice light citrus, pine, herbal earthiness and some toasted, bready malts. Well balanced with a mild, smooth bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Appropriately light to medium bodied with good carbonation.

Overall, this was an enjoyable and easy drinking pale ale. Nothing too exciting or unique but a superbly well-balanced and refreshing beer with a pleasant aroma and flavor.
