Poured on tap into a half pint nonic glass at Odell's tasting room in Fort Collins. From notes.

A very opaque and pale amber body, with a combination of fast and slow rising carbonation, particularly on one edge. A light soft off white collar is presented, not too large, but inviting.

Nose has a light grainy sense, hints of flour. A perhaps mild herbal hop is peaking through.

Taste hits with a hop pine at first in the mid palate, with a light lingering bitterness. Finishes clean, but also brings a bit of oil density from a hop angle. As it warms, hints of tea and orange perkalate all over, there's a chewy yeasty character to this beer also, kind of... "stanky?". Lively crisp carbonation matching the clean feeling.

Overall pretty solid pale ale and very drinkable too.

On-tap at the source itself, on to the beer:

Similar in appearance to Odell IPA in look, this pale ale is orange with yellow hues, but with head retention that isn't as extraordinary as the IPA. The nose is very balanced, leaning a little towards the malt side than the hop side. Floral, pine, and orange aromas brighten the senses. The theme of balance continues into the taste, where biscuit and caramel flavors make a good base for a splash of hops. Rather clean too. A good and drinkable pale ale (though how it compare to 5 Barrel Pale Ale is a mystery to me, as I have yet to try that beer).

Pours a golden amber with a nice foamy white head, constant effervescense of bubbles rising to the surface, and decent lacing. An bright, floral and sweet aroma; florals and a touch of some lemon from the dry hopping, sweet toffee and dough from the malt. Flavor was bright with the toffee, floral, and lemon playing off each other quite nicely. A nice creamy, active mouthfeel. Overall, a solid brew. As described by the Odell employee who took my order this was kinda like a dry hopped amberand I am glad she described it as such. In that light I was able to enjoy this far more than I would have were I to have though of this along the lines of a pale ale. It shares the brightness and crispness of a pale ale but flavor and aroma was all about this being a dry hopped amber, and a good one at that. Next time I stop by the brewery I might have to check out their Levity Amber to compare that fresh to this and see which one I prefer. As of now, my vote goes to this.

a serviceable pale ale. or should i say "pail" ale, as its actually called. this one pours perfectly clear less than amber or golden, but pale as. decent white head. smells like english and american malts, bready, doughy even. the hops are too subdued for me in the nose and in the flavor, i need a bit more from a pale ale. all up this is made for the masses, which odells doesnt usually do, they usually cater to the discerning palate, but this is dumbed down too much for me. some good malty complexity, but this doesnt touch the 5 barrel pale ale. feel is fine, light in body and plenty carbonated, but its not exciting. one of my least favorite odell brews, just nothing memorable or standout to me. fair at best

Fresh on-tap at the Odell tasting room. Town Pump...I don't even want to know. Pours orange-gold, looks clean and well-crafted like everything else Odell brews. Malt forward for the style but still balanced. Lots bread, toast, and general "grainy" flavors. Hops have a pleasant herbal/floral flavor with just a touch of citrus at the end. Really nice, but with an outstanding flagship-type pale ale such as 5 Barrel I'm just not sure where this fits in.

Picked a growler up at the brewery. Poured to pint glass the beer appears translucent amber golden colored with a thin 1/2 finger white cap, some retention, very little lacing. The nose is delicate yet pleasant with spicy floral hop character and a caramel malt sweetness. The flavor is very much the same and has a nice balance of sweetness from the malt and mild bitterness from the hops. Very easy to drink. Smooth mouthfeel and well carbonated. Overall, I don't enjoy this as much as 5 Barrel but it is still good.

On tap at Odell Brewing.

Pours with a 1 finger almost perfectly white head, with good consistent lacing.

Smells of dried fruit, grain, biscuit, and a hint of grassy hops.

Tastes raisiny, grainy, and roasty.

Tight, dry, clean finish and low carbonation.

Overall this was okay, but nothing special at all. Didn't hate it, but wouldn't choose to drink it again.

Had this one on tap at the Odell Brewery in Fort Collins. Poured a nice light amber color, with a decent white head. Aromas of biscuit, sweet malt and light hops. Light bodied and crisp, with flavors of biscuit, sweet malts and just a hint of citrus.

Had as part of the pilot tasting. This was by far the standout worst of the tasting.

L: Coppery-gold. Goodly amount of carbonation. Soapy head, good pour.

S: Slight hoppiness, but not much going on in the nose at all.

T: Crisp hops up front fading into a watery sweet finish and then disappearing entirely, at a speed that would make david copperfield envious.

F: Touch watery, even considering the style.

D: meh. seriously.

Reviewed from notes. On tap at the brewery in August 2009.

Pours a light amber color with a bit of a white head. The nose brings some floral hops as well as a bit of spice. Nice combination. The taste is a bit plain with some moderate bread and caramel flavors with a bit of a floral component. Slightly bitter feel with good carbonation. Drinks fairly well but nowhere near their IPA.

Pint glass at the Town Pump

A - Clear...light to medium brown

S - Light malts and light hops

T - Three dimensional...interplay between the hops and the malts made this one a freaking joy to drink

M - Nothing exceptional...just right

D - Would have sat there all day if we hadn't been entertaining guests

This one was available at the brewery today so I picked up a growler. I always get this one when I'm at the Town Pump in Old Town Ft. Collins but's a special treat to enjoy one at home.

Pours from the growler with very little head, low retention, no lacing. It has a red/gold color and excellent clarity.

Aroma is nicely hopped. It has spicy, floral, and sweet notes.

Flavor is just right in terms of the bitter/sweet balance. It has a nice level of hopiness for a pale ale. The hops are grassy but in a fresh and pleasant way.

Mouthfeel is very smooth and drinkability is high. It's best straight from the tap but a growler is the only way to take some home.

An ale which was golden amber in color with almost no head to speak of. The smell was malty and the taste was reminiscent of vegetal greens and ginger snaps for some odd reason. Not my favorite but still a decent beer. This is brewed for the oldest bar in Ft. Collins, which I thought was cool. It is really hard for me to think of a witty way to describe the nuances of beer, and that pisses me off. I'm not sure why this is listed as "retired" since it is on tap at the brewery.

Had this on tap the other day at O dell's. The bartender actually called it an IPA, said it was dry hopped. Anyway it was a light amber color with good carbonation and lacing down the glass. Smell is very skunky and hoppy with a slight citrus smell also. Taste very very bitter, too much for my tastes. Was not balanced hardly at all. I like hoppy beers but this one was just a little too bitter. I recommend their 5 Barrell pale ale which is hoppy but much more balanced.

I had this from the tap yesterday at the brewery. They tell me it is named for a local pub called (you guessed it!) The Town Pump. It is one of their pilot beers they brewed for the pub, because they have a clientele that prefers massively hopped beer. In appearance it is a deep copper with beige foam and sticky lace. Aroma is overwhelmingly floral, bitter hops, with a hint of malt, and grass. Initial taste is of the aromatic hops, dried fruits, spices, lime and malt. A hop-lovers dream!

The beer pours a gold color with a white lace head. The aroma is good. It has a nice pale malt scent with some bitter hop aroma. The taste is average. It has a grainy pale malt flavor that finishes musty and bitter. The mouthfeel is decent. It is a medium bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This is a decent APA, but the musty character has to go. Until then, it's one and done for me.
