Poured from a growler into my Kane snifter, both courtesy of wittyname.

Appearance: Pours black with a fingers worth of billowy tan foam. Leaves spotty lacing on the glass as it is drank.

Smell: Fantastic. You immediately get a strong whiff of roasted coffee. Lingering a bit underneath that is chocolate and roasted malts.

Taste: Front and center here is the coffee, a bitter roast that really complements the rest of the beer. In the middle you catch the roasted malts and start to taste the chocolate. The finish is dry and sweet and the chocolate really comes out to play. It really is amazing that the ABV is as high as it is, as this is immensely drinkable.

Mouthfeel: This is medium bodied, and I think almost perfect for this kind of beer. Not too heavy so you could enjoy it with breakfast if you wanted. I enjoyed it as an after dinner treat.

Overall: Really, really good brew from Kane. Very drinkable and delicious. A definite must try if you can get a hold of it.

On-tap, served in a pint glass

A near midnight black body with a fluffy khaki cap. The head sits at one+ fingers and recedes slowly. Big, clingy lace all over the glass.

Bold coffee up front on the nose with rich milk chocolate and mild roast underneath. A very nice balance without the coffee being too overpowering.

Rich roast malt rolls onto the palate with milk chocolate and cocoa through the middle. Fresh coffee beans leap through the finish. Complex, but yet not. The higher abv is barely noticeable.

Medium body, smooth, and just a touch creamy. Lingering roast and a bit of coffee astringency.

A damn fine coffee porter that really impresses. A little more roundness to this beer and we have an upper echelon porter.
