In the late 1860s, Michael F. Claffey came to America from the small village of Port Omna in County Galway, Ireland. Four generations later, we brewed this beer to both celebrate our Irish heritage and to honor our family on both sides of the Atlantic. Port Omna is an American Extra Stout, taking characteristics from each sub-style within the stout category. The medium body and smoothness is reminiscent of an oatmeal stout and supports aromas of roasted malts, rich coffee, and hints of cocoa. Flavors of bittersweet chocolate and the medium malt character of an American stout add a layer of sweetness, while it’s relatively high 6.6% ABV and assertive roast flavors are familiar characteristics of foreign extra stouts. Port Omna wraps our favorite stout flavors into one very special, very limited-release beer.

Pours very dark. Huge head quickly disappeared. Sweet on the nose with vanilla and coffee. Goes down dangerously easy. Reminds me of a toned down modern imperial coffee stout. Mouthfeel is just a bit thin, but overall it's a great classic style & no complaints here.

Pours black with a few fingers of dense beige-colored foam. Aroma is nutty, bready, earthy, and toasty malts with a hint of roasty malts just behind. It's like shoving the scent of a dense whole-wheat bread loaf up your nose. With that in mind, faint grassy hops combine with mild coffee and chocolate for an Irish stout scent. Flavor profile draws upon the same malts - bready, nutty, earthy, and toasty, and pairs them with dense chocolate and mild grassy and coffee notes. Chocolate is full and present for the first two-thirds, with coffee coming in the final third, and lingering past the finish. Great dynamics and shift, creating depth without requiring a large ABV. Finish is mostly dry save for the coffee and light bready notes that linger on the tongue. Mouth feel is medium in thickness with a still effervescence, with texture driven by light, but inconsistent, grit. Overall, this really packs a punch in all regards. It develops a wonderful depth in both nose and flavor profile, all the while retaining an 'easy going' attitude. To be frank, I can be a non-fan of many Irish stouts - they seem lacking - but this one does well to establish a hearty presence without the alcohol content or weight that many comparable stouts carry.

Really nice stout from Kane - has some characteristics of a foreign/export stout and American Stout. Nice roasted malt and barley, rich malts, with a little bit of tobacco and ash. Really nice beer.

Solid black appearance. Has light carbonation with about a medium body. There's a bit of a thick creamy feel to this which adds up to an overall nice body.
Aroma is a really pleasant deep rich combination of dark fruit, molasses, licorice, malt, roasted malt, and some black coffee.
Taste is mildly sweet with a really nice licorice/molasses/dark fruit mix. The body is slick and full which actually has an influence on the flavor.
Overall this is by far my favorite offering from kane and will look for it again

Pours an opaque dark, ruddy color with a minimum amount of fast dissipating mocha colored head.Smell is cocoa, coffee,a medium sweet malt profile. Taste some of the aforementioned in smell and in addition a sweet nutty profile. Feels thin bodied, decent carbonation, the warmer it gets the better. Overall this is a nice pint of stout.

Entirely too sweet. Not enough roast, char, or smoke for me
a) Pours dark brown color with tan head and good lacing.
s) As expected but too sweet: malt, coffee, molasses, chocolate, black licorice.
t) Ditto
f) Too light. kane beers pour a bit lighter in feel.
