on tap at the brewery - served in taster

Pours an opaque darkness with a thinner layer of beige head. Coating of film rests on top, leaving a few spots of lacing.

Spices and apples in the nose with pears and dark fruit. Burnt sugar, bread crust, Belgian yeast, alcohol warmth.

Sweet and spicy up front with cinnamon, coriander and apples. Pears, raisins and dates with some burnt sugar sweetness. Full malty backbone with dark fruits and boozy warmth.

Fuller medium body, well carbonated, sticky and full on the tongue. This is decent, but the apples seem to overpower some of the more delicate flavors.

From 11/21/12 notes. Picked this up in Middletown, NY at Whole Foods about a month ago but wanted to wait to open it with my sister. 750ml bottle poured into a Chimay chalice.

a - Pours a deep reddish brown color with one finger of off white head and moderate carbonation evident.

s - Smells of apples, fruity malts, cinnamon, spices, gingerbread, pumpkin, Belgian yeast, cloves, bready malts, and toasted malts. Lots of apples and fruit to it, as well as spice. Was surprised to get a little pumpkin-ale type flavors to it, but the nose is pretty nice.

t - Tastes of apples, fruity malts, alcohol, apple brandy, spices, Belgian yeast, cloves, bready malts, toasted malts, cinnamon. Taste has more apples and more alcohol than the nose. Still quite nice, thought not quite as good as the nose.

m - Medium body and moderate carbonation. Very light heat in the taste.

o - Overall a pretty interesting and good local fall beer. You can definitely smell and taste the apple cider used, and it has a lot of fruit and spices to it. Some light alcohol in the taste but nothing too bad. Would buy it again next year.
