On opening this beer, the cap comes off a little too easily and without a sound. Shit. An aggressive pour yields no head or carbonation of any kind. Still looks OK, a nice mahogany colour but without any activity.

The nose is pretty good - despite the lack of carbonation, there's still a comparative abundance of earthy hop notes and sweet malt. Flavor-wise it's nutty and lightly sweet, with vegetal and grassy hops, although not as much of either as promised. Decent flavors, no depth or particular character. The bottle boasts that it is not your typical watery midstrengh beer, but it IS fairly watery and lacks punch.

They're obviously onto something with this idea but the beer doesn't hit all the marks, even without the obvious bottling/quality control issue I'm experiencing. I'll probably grab another bottle at some point as it's cheap and it'd be wonderful to have a quality, tasty amber ale available at this ABV. That said, I'm not sure ths beer is it.

WoW! For a 2.9% beer this delivers the goods.

Pours a deep copper body, one finger head... the heads dies but thats ok.

Aromas of malts, and almost a barnyard funk, which follows thru to the palate. It is quite dry, earthy, crisp and almost astringent, but to get those flavours for a light beer shows some real brewing skill. Toward the end of the bottle the palate almost becomes lemon-dominated - unusual.

Mouthfeel is on the thin side, good carbonation tho, which has been a challenege for other HopDogs I have had.

Overall, quite a find. Maybe a little more malt would benefit.... Have taken half off overall, as it wasn't cheap.

Pours a hazy amber hue which leaves a creamy two finger head and heaps of clingy lacing,the smell is freshly cut grass,brown sugar,berries and hazelnuts,the mouthfeel is just over lightbodied and very sessionable and has tastes of hazelnuts,lilly pillies,rose water,a touch of brown sugar and finished with a nice dose of grassy hops which is nice and dry without any bitterness being encountered and overall i dont usually drink brews with this low an ABV but this is nice and sessionable for those driving who just want a couple or taking it easy as its tastier than other light ales i have sampled.

Midgee is described as a South Coast Mild Red Ale.

Slightly hazy red-mahogany colour with a small, smooth and short lasted off-white head. Nutty, caramelised malt is the first thing that hits the aroma before giving way to earthy, citrussy hops. I'm surprised to read that this is hopped with Riwaka but the aroma is still nice.

A sharply balanced ale with a dry malt backbone and some mildly earthy hops. The hop resins add a balancing note but I want for more tropical, fruity notes.

Medium-light body with moderate carbonation. Excellent.

A nice, easy drinking session beer but it lacks a bit of a fruity punch to my palate.
