Fort Knox golden with a frail, smooth white head. Huge, sweet and fruity aroma with loads of ripe mango, pear, lychee, lime... and that's about it. It smells great, but it is pretty much pure hops. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Devilishly creamy and drinkable in spite of its palate-crushing hoppiness, a flavor of peach, mango, lychee, grapefruit, and golden raisins with a chalky mineral undertone, making this kinda reminiscent of a saltydog. Not bad at all! It does give the Americans a run for our money.

330ml Bottle from Vino Wines, Edinburgh (£3.25):
Bright amber with a finger sized, bubbly looking head that takes an aggressive pour to form but manages to have nice retention.

Fruity to begin with, a strong helping of tropical fruits hits you first followed by some lighter pine notes and a touch of grapefruit. Very hoppy overall and backed up with some nice mango and passion fruit. A very summery and refreshing smelling beer.

Tropical with a lot of fruity flavours up front including some mango and bitter grapefruit as well as some pine hops and the usual citrus hops. Like the taste this one comes across as very refreshing and easy to drink with a nice bitter finish.

Light medium in body but definitely not watery, there is a lot of bitterness and plenty of sweet, fruity notes with a good refreshing well and a nice citrus tang.

Definitely one of the best I have ever tried, this one had it all really. Plenty of citrus and tropical fruit notes with just the right amount of hops and bitterness. There was a great, easy going and refreshing feel to the beer and I managed to work my way down it in almost no time at all.

Honey blonde with a ribbon of white froth and the odd trailers.
Sparklingly fresh lemon zest, resin, pineapple and pine forest on the nose, with just a touch of toffee.
Some caramel biscuit and a bit of mango is quickly overwhelmed by grapefruit, lychee, and a bit of sticky passionfruit hops.
Orange slushee finish and long but mild bitter linger.
Light to medium, some chew, flinty.

Knockout nose not quite lived up to by the hops, but then this isn't an IPA. West Coast PA ain't
no lie - plenty of C hops up in here - but there's a catty edge that makes me guess Simcoe.

I wanted to love this until I remembered APAs from Tuatara and Odell and The Kernel. Rumours had it that this was a Punk IPA clone, but this lines up better against Dead Pony club. A bit watery, which only aids drinkability but maybe a bit too much so.

Tropical fruit salad just lacking a bit of sandpaper. Reliable when it could be memorable.

Pours a clear, dark amber color. 1/4 inch head of a white color. Good retention and good lacing. Smells of citrus hops, sweet malt, slight dry hop, and a hint of citrus. Fits the style of an American Pale Ale. Mouth feel is smooth and clean, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of yeast, sweet malt, slight pale malt, slight citrus hops, and a hint of dry hops. Overall, good appearance, feel, blend, and body. A more subtle APA, but that's to be expected from the English.

A 330ml bottle with a BB of Nov 2012. Picked up a little while back from Trembling Madness in York. Described on the label as a West Coast-style pale ale with tons of hops. Delicious!

Poured into a tulip pint glass. A clear golden hue with good carbonation. Yields a large head of white foam that lasts for a few minutes before reducing to a surface layer. Aroma of sweet, intensely fruity hops, with notes of mango, melon, white grapes, grapefruit and citrus. Mild caramel malt underneath, but the hops dominate completely.

Tastes of intense aromatic hops with a dry, bitter finish. Notes of mango, melon, white grape, citrus, faint malt and stewed hops. Possesses a dry, spicy quality. A strident bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, spicy and tingly, with good body for the style. Rather astringent - dries the palate. Aftertaste of bitter aromatic hops.

Mmmmm - hops! In a way, this beer is a bit of a one-trick pony - hops and little else. The malt is thoroughly overwhelmed, and there isn't really any yeast either. But if you love hops in all their myriad fruity flavours, then this is the brew for you. Lots of fruity notes and plenty of depth to the aroma and bitterness. Very nice and very drinkable - I've had this on cask as well and it was superb. Well worth sampling if you have the chance.

Handpump halfpint at the Southampton Arms.

A: Clear gold body; thin, frothy white head. Light lace. Mediocre.

S: Honey + hops. Some faint malt sweetness underneath potent grapefruit and floral hop notes. Extremely nice.

T: Follows the nose, but with a bit more complexity to the hops: the grapefruit is ruby red, and there are some piney, herbal nuances as well on the way to a very bitter finish.

M: Slick light body with low, but building, carbonation. Pleasant.

O: Nice pale ale. I'd happily drink it again.
