On-tap at the John Barleycorn Barrel-Aged release party at the brewery on 10/22/11. Apparently this beer was aged for 214 days in Port barrels.
A: Pours a super dark muddy brown color; one finger-width head, light lacing. Overall an unappealing color
S: Bready malts, with some sweet caramel and toffee; has some tart wine notes that stick in the back of the nose. A very interesting smell, but I like it.
T: Starts off with a nice little tart wine flavor that quickly transitions into sweet malts, caramel, and toffee as it hits the middle of the tongue; finishes with some more tart malty sweetness and a very slight woody bitterness that lingers.
M: Medium thickness; low carbonation; very smooth and buttery, not sharp on the tongue; barely any hint of booze at all
O: A very interesting beer that is packed with flavors. You get the sweetness of the malts and grains but then it also mixes in this interesting wine-like tartness that adds a whole new level of complexity. It's not the best BA beer I've ever had but it's still a damn good one
