Formerly Steelhead Scotch Porter and Steelhead Porter
This traditionally styled Porter has complex malt characteristics balanced with a mild hop profile. Scottish smoked and peated malts lend added complexity and a mild smokey flavor.

Appearance has ruby highlights when held to the light but normal presentation is dark cola brownish black, forms a large tan head leaving behind scattered strands of thin lacing. Aroma has upfront smoked peated malt with other specialty roasty malts bringing out some chocolate and toffee sweetness, a touch of anise seed while the finish contains herbal hops that are not as aggressive as some west coast hopped porters. Flavor contains creamy dark chocolate waves with a balancing flow of grassy herbal hops coming through touch of roasted marshmellow and English toffee candy the subtle smokey nutty edge causes a dryness after each sip. Mouthfeel is velvety smooth creamy texture flows on the palate yet the body is medium rather than other more robust porters carbonation level is dead on really even not too much or not enough. Drinkability is great a wonderful complex variation of the American porter that is so interesting and flavorful will definitely keep you hunched over with your nose in the glass, good beer here.

A: Pours a one finger head. Dark burgundy brown. Amazing lacing.
S: Coffee, cocoa, malty richness. A slight nuttiness
T: Very very creamy. Barley, bread, slight toastiness. Very flat and surprisingly light mouthfeel. Coffee and toasted flavors come alive at the end.
O: Wondering if I got a bad batch, because this was not what I expected.

Glad to see MRB rebranding their beers. It gives them a little more character. This is a lot better than their old Scotch porter for sure. Dark brown, like molasses. Creamy, tan head with streak lacing. Aroma is peated malt and hops- berries, spice, and pine. Earthy notes, and hints of coffee and vanilla. The flavor is well balanced with smokey and sweet from the malt, and some herbal and fruit qualities from the hops. A very good beer!

This one sits around that SRM of traditional porters and brown ales. The head was around 1/2" off white. The aroma hits of alcohol and some peat earthiness.
Taste is a thick, minor molasses/brown sugar. Good in small quantities, the mouthfeel is thick and viscous, there is a good amount of hopping in this to qualify as an English porter, but it is probably for the better. Good bitterness from the roasted and smoked malts as well as the hops which I suspect are Cascades. This is one of those cigar beers.

Pours very dark. Starts out somewhat sweet, then I get notes that mostly remind me of roast/char and citrus. The hops seem to be quite a bit more in the forefront than I usually detect in a porter. Not bad.

Mad River Steelhead Porter, aged on old Scotch barrels. Not very Scotch-y, but a good porter with a bit of char character to it. More of the barrel quality in the aroma, than on the palate.

this was on special so i decided to try it out even though it wasn't on tap. it's a very smooth and drinkable beer on the lighter side of taste/feel for a porter. i ordered one last one at the end of the night because i wanted another one after trying some other beers.
