On tap. Pours a beautiful opaque black with a rich, dark root beer colored head. Head retention is less than average. The marbled swirls of root beer brown that sits atop the black liquid looks so rich and inviting. Coffee, caramel, and brown sugar comprise the aromas. Mouthfeel is a little thick, but not viscous. The hop/carbonation interaction creates a bit of a burn at the finish. Bourbon, chocolate, and coffee in spades. No booziness. Though I wouldn't expect a lot at 8.8% any way. Decent barrel aged stout. Could've been hopped a little more lightly and carbonated less for a more sippable beer.

Thanks for sharing, Tim.

Dark brown in color with a khaki head. Mild bourbon on the nose with a lot of oxidation, some oak, and a bit of dark fruit. Moderate roastiness with a touch of coffee grounds. Flavor is a bit better. Still oxidized, but a bit more bourbon and wood flavor along with roasted malt, bitter dark chocolate, coffee, and dark fruit notes. A bit thin with surprisingly high carbonation.

Bottle shared by Tim. Thanks!

A: Near black with a finger of tan foam.

S: Sherry and a bit of cardboard. Cocoa blends with dark fruits, most notably prune and grape. Lots of licorice.

T: Licorice, dark chocolate, and a pretty firm oxidation presence that manifests as cardboard. Faintly tart and lightly bitter with a touch of roasted character.

M: Upper medium to lower full body.

Overall: Pretty oxidized. This has seen better days I imagine.

App- A very dark brown with some lighter edges and a little bit of a soft brown head with a zero cling.

Smell- Really had a lot going on in the glass. It's a very quad like stout. Lots of coffee, and abundant dark fruits on this one.

Taste- Much like the nose, its way to quad like for me to truly enjoy a BBA stout. Had a lot of the dark fruits and a prickly malty backbone. Didnt pick up on any of the vanilla or bourbon on this one.

Mouth- A light medium with a medium full carbonation. Good residual coffee flavors on this one.

Drink- Little better than average but thats about it. Probably would pass on it if at a tasting.

A new arrival at a local pub, and a steal for $4.50 for an 8 oz. glass.

Pours a flat black color with a thin tan head that quickly faded.

Aromas are nice, coconut, chocolate, oak, and hints of bourbon.

Flavors are very similar to the nose. Coconut and chocolate, semi sweet, with some oak, and creaminess. Finish is slightly warm, boozy, with subtle bourbon notes.

Mouthfeel is smooth. Full, but not heavy at all.

Overall, a very nice beer. I've always enjoyed Mad River's Stout, and they did a nice job barrel aging it. Not a big bold beer, but the sublte barrel flavors meld nicely with their rich stout. This is a pleasure to drink.
