Beautiful amber color, pungent whiff of hops immediately to the nose perfectly predicting the flavor. Nice home invasion sting in the mouth and a hearthy aftertaste. Seems to be knocking on the door of Surly Furious. This is my FIRST introduction to a brew from Steel Toe Brewing - and I am immediately looking forward to MORE!

2013 release: Dried mango and papaya flavors, slick and resiny, very fresh and hoppy. When fresh its better than Devil Dancer, imho. Scores up across the board.
3-24-2012:
Bright and saturated copper orange color, nice clarity, copious light tan foam that froths up to the rim of the glass and slowly settles, leaving behind arcs of drippy lacing in the glass. Over time the skim fades to a ring around the edges.
Sweet and fruity aroma, somewhat suggestive of cantaloupe or melon. Some caramel malt sweetness there also as it warms up.
Fruity citrus rind and resiny pine bitterness, smooth cantaloupe notes with a dry bitter finish that lingers nicely. A warming spicy note from the 11% abv, though it's not too overt in the taste. It's got a nice smoothness with a medium body and low carbonation, sort of a sticky nectar thing happening. Overall a nice DIPA that i'd recommend to hopheads for sure.

Appearance: Clear amber, good head.
Smell: Piney, citrus, sweetness.
Taste: Nicely sweet, then strong citrus and pineapple flavors.
Feel: Moderately heavy feel.
Overall: I finally got to try Size 11. Picked up a couple bottles at the brewery on the release day. It's a very tasty double IPA, listed as a triple IPA on the label. Not overly bitter or too sweet, just a big beer with a nice balance of sweetness and hop flavor. Good stuff.

Reviewing the Size 11 Double IPA from Steel Toe Brewing.
Score: 85
Bottled 02/24/12, served in a Half Acre tulip and enjoyed on 04/09/12. Review is from notes.
Appearance: Pours a transparentish caramel color. This beer looks more like a dark red ale than an IPA. Two fingers of off-white frothy seafoam head at pour slowly settles, leaving behind ample lacing on the side of the glass. Below average lacing and retention once the beer settles, however. 3.5/5
Smell: Super malty and not very hoppy. Sweet caramel, lemon and brown sugar. A touch of tiramissue, some bitter barley/grain and an aroma I can only describe as "margarine." A little bit of alcohol. 3.5/5
Taste: Creamy vanilla and caramel. Bitter barley and biscuits. A modest amount of piney citrus and hops flavor too -- not a lot of it, but more than was in the aroma. 3.75/5
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, medium carbonation. Creamy mouthfeel. The finish is dry, sweet and malty. 4/5
Overall: Nothing special, but nothing awful. I would not have guessed that this was an IPA on my own -- I probably would have guessed red ale. At least it was better than the 75 Minute IPA.
Recommendation: Fans of the 75 minute IPA will probably love this one, but it's more of a caramel/grain IPA than your traditional hoppy beer. I would not seek this one out again.
Pairings: Pretzels.
Cost: $11 for a 750 ml bottle.

Thanks to Pawola22 for sending me this bottle.
The beer pours an orange-amber color with a white head. The aroma is full of pine and orange notes, with a little bit of resin and some biscuit malt. The flavor is similar, being dominated by pine and resin notes from the hops. There is also some biscuit and toffee, as well as a medium amount of bitterness. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
