22oz bottle poured into tulip - thanks to therobot
Pours a hazed copper caramel color with a froth of beige head. Fades into bubbled retention with some patchy lacing on the glass.
Some piny hops in the nose with bready caramel. Some toasted notes with sweetness and light warmth.
Nice punch of pine bitterness up front. Resiny and sticky with a nice helping of hops. Thicker, bready malt backbone with toasted notes. Caramel sweetness with some lingering hop bitterness in the finish.
Medium body, well carbonated, sticky and a little chewy. Nice, full flavored red ale with an added dosage of hops.

Had on tap at Ward 6 St Paul. Good amber.
This style is a moving target for me. From the Bell's amber, to Nordeast, to this, there is an immense amount of variation. The menu said "double red ale" so, I'll go with that
Deep red, nearly brown. Very nice color. Thin head, could have been the pour. Bar staff seemed focused in throwing out the volume.
Great caramel malt flavor. Nice body to the beer. Full mouthfeel. Strong alcohol finish. Very nice hop. On the red ales sometimes, things get too fruity. This was a nice bitter finish.
Had a Reuben. Excellent pairing.

A- Dark red, almost purple, thick tan head with nice retention, it is very nice looking
S- Caramel malt, earthy and medicinal hop aroma
T- Similar to smell but with more medicinal finish, caramel flavor gives way to a clean, medicinal hop bitterness that lingers pleasantly
M- I think it is a bit thin for a "double" anything, but it is okay. Not quite as chewy as I would like
O- A nice beer, I generally don't like these medicinal finish beers, but this is very nice. I would drink it again.

Appearance: Pours a beautiful reddish purple with a big head.
Smell: Moderate citrus aroma.
Taste: Mostly dark fruits with an earthy hop presence.
Overall: I think my bottle may have been a little old. When I've had this on tap it had more of a citrus hop presence to go along with the dark fruit flavors. Maybe when I get a newer bottle or have it on tap again I will re-review. Even like this it is still better than your usual red ale.
