On tap at Bryant's Lake Bowl the other day.
The beer pours a slightly hazy gold color with pretty good head retention and lacing. I really am not picking up very much on the nose. There's a slight grain aroma, and then some very light dry citrus, and that's about it. On the palate, this beer is surprisingly tasty for an american blond. It has some qualitites to is that sort of remind me of a wit beer (light clove, some wheat and some light spice), that blends well with the light honey and dry bitterness I'm getting. A lot american blonds just don't deliver enough flavor for me, but this one is pretty good. Mouthfeel is fairly light, with a fairly long, lightly bitter finish. Alcohol is completely unnoticeable.
Not bad at all. This would make a nice summer beer, and would be an interesting change from some of the wits and pils I like to drink in the warmer months.

The beer has a clear, golden look to it with virtually no head. There is not much to the smell... grains, yeast, and faintly hoppy. The taste is very refreshing. It has a slightly hop taste with no bitterness. It tastes like a nice lager.
Would I buy it again? Definitely! You could drink it all night and not get tired of it!

A - Poured out a cloudy, golden yellow color with a one-finger white head of foam. It left some sudsy trails of lace on the glass.
S - It smelled very citrusy and floral. Some grassiness.
T - It tasted very fruity with a slight grassy bitterness. A sweet caramel backbone.
M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A light to medium bodied ale with a clean finish.
O - This is a nice blonde ale. My first and only Steel Toe brew.

Poured into a Pint Glass
Appearance - Wet Yellow with strong haze and quite a bit of carbonation. Head is around 2 fingers in width and rather soapy.
Smell - Floral Hops, Grassiness, Yeasts, Cloves and a slight malty scent. It's got a bit of an earthy-pils smell it without being too strong
Taste - Floral Hops, Yeasts, Barley, Cloves and Malts. The earthy scent is nowhere to be found in the flavor and in it's place is a malty sweetness.
Mouthfeel - For a blonde ale, quite heavy bodied. Carbonation is thankfully quite light, tolerable and adds some character to the flavor
Overall - Another Solid Brew from Steel Toe. I enjoyed their Rainmaker and commented that I look forward to more offerings from them. The same can be said now as I will eagarly look forward to more of their offerings in the future

A- Pours a crisp white head over a slightly hazed golden body. Some sparse lacing is present on the beer clean glass. A thin cap remains after some time.
S- Fresh lemon zest, floral hop, grassy. Very vibrant and inviting!
T- Starts off grainy with cereal breadiness and transitions into fresh lemon zest and some grassiness in the mid palette. The finish very vibrant and feels slightly hoppy.
M- Right on the mark here. Good feel and great finish
O- I thought, golden ale... I'll make that the last Steel Toe I try... How good could it be? Great job, Jason. This is an extremely well executed blonde ale. Definitely will have again!!

Poured from 22 oz. bottle into a Sam Adams "Perfect Pint" glass.
Appearance: Pours a clear pale straw golden orange with lots of rising bubbles. Huge five finger white head with good retention. Leaves a lot of lacing around the glass.
Smell: A light but crisp and refreshing smelling aroma. Bready pale malts and wheat cereal grains with good hints of crackers and yeast. Nice hints of citrus lemon zest and orange. Some floral hops. Light hint of honey like sweetness. A laid back but solid smell.
Taste: Again, light and easy drinking as expected, but with some really nice subtle flavors. Pale malts and wheat grains with solid hints of bread, yeast, hay, and crackers. Good citrus fruit taste of lemon zest and orange. Light hint of honey. Floral hops add a light bitterness and earthy quality. Hop presence is actually fairly vibrant considering the style.
Mouthfeel: Light bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Crisp, creamy, and somewhat tart and juicy. Very easy drinking.
Overall: A very solid summer beer. One of the fuller tasting examples of the Blonde style. Nice citrus taste.

You gotta hand it to Steel Toe. While so many new breweries are charging butt-rape prices for their bombers despite lack of pedigree, Steel Toe's bombers are priced to move, despite their growing positive street cred. Bomber of Provider, split. Not looking for an earth-changer, just a good summer beer on a scorching, repressive night at the cabin.
Pour is dishwater blonde, with a head that rises and falls as quickly as the third reich.
Smell: Granary, lemon, flour
Citrus takes a bigger role in the flavor. As to be expected, not a real hop presence. Not a real strong presence for much of anything. This is a beer meant to be easy.
Mouthfeel: Thin and easy, light alcohol, spot-on carbonation. For a summer beer, Steel Toe nailed it.
This is a candidate for a go - to summer beer, but it is hampered by not being available in 12 oz bottles.

Clear, golden hued, under lace-leaving pure white head.
Soft, floral nose. Wheat and hops at work. Citrus notes. Delicate and delightful.
Taste: Spank of hops up front, the sharp, citric twang of wheat malt, a little extra spritz of something else. That all comes on the first sip, and it gets mellower from the very next moment. Smooth and creamy. Light bodied to the point of medium. Plenty of flavor in this very quaffable brew. Lots of action on the tongue here, in an ale that doesn't seem to easily fall into any one slot. Definitely wheat based, definitely hoppy. Exceedingly easy drinking.
Great sessioner, appropriate summer drinker. "Provider" may mean how well this brew's profits will fill Steel Toe's coffers. The IPA will hear the hosannas from the beer geek crowd, but this one will suit everyone else.
I put this growler down easily in one sitting. I wish it were on the lakeside, in the heat of the sun, that's the only thing that would make this better.

A: Cloudy, bright deep yellow with a fluffy white head. Awesome lacing.
S: Lemon zest and bready malts dominate. Some sweet cereal malts in the mix too.
T: Light and refreshing, but still has a lot of flavor. Some light lemon and floral hops up front with a nice slightly sweet malt backbone. Finishes crisp and makes you go back for more.
M: Light body. Carbonation is a bit on the high side, but spot on.
O: Very drinkable. I think Steel Toe is the best out of all the new breweries popping up and this beer is a perfect example of why. Anyone who likes beer would love this. Could be a great gateway beer into the world of craft.

Took home a Provider because the sample impressed me. And, the guy ahead of me bought the last Dissent. A bit light for my normal drinking, but I thought a growler for week night drinking would be a good test for this golden ale.
Stark white head falls rather quickly in spite of an assertive pour. Hazy sunflower gold ale that's translucent with waves of old gold. Floral scented nose with a slight spice and fresh biscuity malt underneath. Sweet beer that has a full and filling mouthfeel, which is what really attracted me initially. In spite of taking up the light, psuedo-macro, lawnmower, everyman spot in the Steel Toe line up, hearty mouthfeel belies its light appearance. It even warms nicely, again a contradiction to its assumed visual character. The 5% ABV points to a stronger malt bill, which may explain the perceptual gap.
Overall, a very nice beer and one that I would try a draft, bottle or growler again. I'm looking for a growler to share at the end of the year teacher party and Provider seems like it would be palatable for a wide range of drinkers.
