I've lived in the western burbs for the better part of two decades and have slept on this place. I've heard of it before but never made it a point to check it out until recently, and I'm glad I did.
As the name implies, it has a "lodge" feel. It's an Americanized version of an alpine-type lodge. It has a rather large bar area as well as a separate dining area. It's pretty roomy inside, unfortunately the parking barely accomodates.
Service was decent. I will say that it seemed like a pretty packed night for the Surly Darkness tapping, but the waiter was freindly, seemed knowledgable enough, and most importantly got us the Darkness promptly after tapping. I will say that from the time the first beer was served I never saw the bottom of my glass again.
Food was better than decent. I had the sausage platter w/ red cabbage and did enjoy it and would recommend it. The spaetzle was just ok and somewhat bland. I'm interested to give some of the other items om the menue a try.
The beer selection here is the reason I came and the reason I'll be back. Simply put, it's impeccable. It's an amazing balance between American craft, belgian, german, trappist, on and on and on. There's somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 taps with even more bottles. I recently read on their blog that they're starting an expansion process to 34 taps. They have some pretty hard to get beers (in Il) on tap on a frequent basis.
Price is reasonable for both the beer and food.
This place is definitely a winner.

The Bavarian Lodge is my favorite place to grab a beer, and I'm lucky as it's only about 10 minutes from my house.
The Atmosphere is excellent inside. There's a bar area with a decent amount of seating at the bar, and then also a handful of other tables in that room. There's also a dining room that has a more traditional restaurant setting. It can accommodate a good amount of people, and during dinner hour it gets pretty crowded.
The Quality is perfect. They always have high quality beers on tap and in bottles, and the food is top-notch German food. I love eating and drinking here.
The Service is normally fantastic. Everyone that works there knows beer very well and can explain flavors intelligently, and they're also very friendly and helpful. The one negative thing I can say was moreso a specific incident, and that was during one of their Goose Island tap takeovers. They allowed people to go to the bar, so those people were given precedence over the orders coming in from the tables. It turned into chaos as everyone who went to the bar got BCBS variants before the taps kicked, but most everyone at the tables got shut out. They didn't respect the queue of orders as they came in. I hope they fix that next time.
You couldn't ask for a better selection. They have 30 or so taps and over 100 different bottles which include Trappist beers and some other special releases. They also have a great selection of German food.
The Food is absolutely delicious. The only downfall is that if you're not a fan of German food, this is not the place to come. They don't serve traditional bar food, although with appetizers like Bavarian pretzels, normally you can at least find something that you'd like.
If you're ever in the area, I highly recommend at least grabbing a beer here. You will likely not be disappointed.

This place is glorious. Great on tap beer selection that is rotated frequently. Very satisfying German food. A warm hearth and comfortable atmosphere. I like the fact that there are virtually no TVs or music. It's a great place to have a beer and conversation with a friend. And the food is outstanding.

We've been to the lodge many times over the years. If you want a fancy setting, this isn't the place. But for good beer, good food and good service - this is the place
Their beer list, on tap and bottled, is outstanding. The only problem is deciding to have an old favorite or try something new. Luckily you can have both!
The food is equally fantastic. The schnitzel is my favorite in the Midwest. Well worth the trip.

This is my go to place for a good beer and great service. The staff are knowledgable about their products and the food is excellent. This place throws some killer tap takeovers and doesnt an excellent job with servicing their customer base. My only issue is that they aren't open on Monday's or Tuesday's. I would frequent this place much more if they were open on those days. They have one of the best beer menus I have ever seen and they always have something new every time I go in there. The best thing about them is that they support the local breweries in the area and really help them spread the word. You guys are great and I really appreciate what you do for the craft beer community.

This is far and away one of my most favorite places to to get a beer and dinner with friends and family. but not for the faint of heart. I think the only thing that i have had in the way of food that i have not loved was the duck and that was more of a personal bias to expecting it to be more like duck confit. As far as the beer list goes, it is second to none as far as selection in both variety as well as quality of rare and old favorite beers. I did put "reasonable" for value, but if you are not into craft brew as much, you might see it as "a bit pricey". Overall I have been to Bavarian lodge with various groups of people, and each time if the beer list doesn't get them the food or atmosphere does. No place is perfect, but I feel Bavarian lodge hits it pretty close to the mark.
