Possibly the best place in the state. Nothing better than sitting outside and enjoying a beer and a boli.

The selection of bolis is worthwhile on their own and on top of that, the selection of beers turns over quite often and is very deep in a lot of areas. Far from perfect but much better than you can really get anywhere else in the area and for a college town it cant be beaten.

Its not the fanciest place in the world and the prices are ridiculously reasonable. Pairings with correct glasses also impressive and the laid back atmosphere and bolis you can only dream about will keep me coming back week after week.

Bolis and beer. I wish they still had Weihenstephaner Hefeweisen Dunkel on tap, but they have Aventis in bottles, so it's all good. They have the right glassware, too. Some great food, but the place is crowded and noisy, especially around the bar. Will worth a trip every once in a while.

Mario Batali's Potacho's and a very solid beer selection both on tap and bottled. Only gripe is the young crowd (which is to be expected being that its in the heart of Rutgers campus) Totally worth a whirl.

Very laid back atmosphere, at least on a Monday afternoon, seemed like it would be a pretty cool place on the evenings as well. All beers were in top shape served in the correct glassware by a friendly but not overly knowledgable waitress. Selection was impressive for a college town pub that seems to specialize in food more than beer. This place is known for their Strombolies and they were fantastic!! I had the pulled pork and loved it. Not very expensive, nothing fancy but right up my alley and if/ when I am in the area again I will go there. A big thanks goes out to Uncle-Cousin Leo for taking us here!

Atm - Casual / family friendly atmosphere located in a college town. Décor is well lit and rustic with above average beer logo paraphernalia adorning the walls. It's much more of a restaurant than a bar which means the college crowd is sitting more often than dropping shots of redbull and vodka. That said, the young crowd helps keep the atmosphere jovial and the beer fresh, as their consumption helps SYF kick kegs at an above average rate.

Qual - I've been to SYF twice now, both times with groups of 6 people, and every beer we've ordered was served in the proper glassware. Tap beers tasted like they came from well manicured lines, and the bottles had survived their life in storage to arrive in solid condition.

Serv - Bartenders had an above average, but underwhelming, knowledge of the beers. The servers really didn't know much about the beer at all, but given the high turn over of the college-age work force and the fact that SYF is really more known for its food than its beer I wasn't terribly disappointed.

Sel (tap) - SYF's taps are a dichotomy of choice: bog-standard American adjuncts and other big-house brews vs tougher to find craft brews. With about 12-15 lines on any given night depending on what's kicked (like I said before, they burn through beer here), that means you really only have 5-7 exceptional craft choices. This doesn't really bother me though, as they're basically subsidizing the better choices on the lighter palates of the average college student. And what better way to introduce young people of drinking age to the world of craft beer than to have a tap of Miller right next to Mikkellers (Monk's Brew and Black Hole to be specific, as of my last visit).

Sel (bottle) - SYF's bottle selection is decent, maybe 80+ bottles. The beer menu comes in a little booklet where the selections are organized by style, and each style is accompanied by a few sentences to help educate beer newcomers. Very nice touch. The descriptions were pretty standard and I only caught 2 beers that seemed to be miss-categorized, but they weren't sinfully out of place. The bottle mix had a lot of the "standard" craft brews and a sprinkling of big-brew craft-wannabes, but there was also a great selection of tougher to find stuff.

Food - I've only had the Strombolies, but they're freak'n fantastic! Lets be clear, it's not the four seasons, it's not a high-end gastro pub, it's a pretty standard bar/restaurant, but man is the Stromboli is good : ) I highly recommend the build-your-own. I had mine with home-made pulled pork, home-made chipotle hot sauce, hot peppers, brie and ricotta.

$ - The beer is possibly the most reasonably priced beer I have ever seen at a bar. They hold true to set % markup over wholesale instead of the more standard tiered flat rate system, which means beers cost $4.52 or $5.17 instead of $5, and every beer is priced differently. The cost of food is also a steal.

Disappointment is how I would sum up my SYF experience. 15 taps, but WAY too many space wasters..Bud lite, Amstel, and the like. Highlights were a selection from DFH, Hop Devil and Rogue dead Guy. Bottles offered more quality options. Prices are low, food was barely passable. Mass production ingredients, middle of the road preparations, and low brow options, do we really need more super cheesy fries loaded up with bacon? The "bolis" that friends offered looked like they had some potential, in a super fattening, highly processed, comfort food sort of way. Way too much Bud lite type beeraparaphernalia every were you look. Not my kinda place. If you want pitchers of Bud lite or pitchers of multi liquor blue abominations you may have a better experience. Call me a food/beer snob, but this place really is going for the lowest common denominator. They are free to run their place they way they want, and I'm sure they make some very good bank here, but I'm also free to call a shame a shame and not spend my $ at a place like this. PS I get the fact that its a college bar in a college town, but c'mon this place just rubbed me the wrong way...

Started going here the year it opened when it was BYOB. Now they concentrate on beer and have a full bar. They have at least 14 beers on tap and 50 or so bottled choices. They also serve each beer in the proper glassware. And lets not forget the strombolis which I feel are the best. Mad Elf, Weihenstephaner dunkle, Copper ale, Hop Devil and Hoegardan were as sample of what we drank there.
I wish the place was bigger there can be up to a two hour wait if you go prime time. Also think tables and chairs could use an upgrade.

Entering, a long passageway led me to the m.d.s., with the bar to a right oblique. The bar was a long blonde wood consturction with around 15 taps, many of which were unworthy. The BTs were outstanding - 4 coolers holding around 160 BTs with the two on the right judged IMHO as fantastic. The server was kind to me and even recommended a book that had recently been written by the owners. I wanted a stromboli, but I had to go. An RU place, to be sure, but one worth of exploration. I really must get up this way more often.

Visited this place a couple of weeks ago and never got around to posting my experienc.

First off, as you walk in you notice an almost dive bar like atmosphere with a very narrow walkway into it and unfinished floors and whatnot. Not a bad thing by all means, just the style of the bar which suits well. From the outside it looks very small, but theres a fairly large upstairs with tables and whatnot and a decent sized bar area.

As for the bar area, they have to have over 100 beers in bottles and about 20 on tap. They have a great menu layout categorized by each style of beer and country. While there i tried Old Rasputin RIS on tap, Ayinger dopplebock and Rogue dead guy in bottles. The bar staff is pretty knowledgable and they have most of the correct glasswear. I was also given a sample of old rasputin before i decided to try it.

The food is typical college/ sports bar stuff. burgers, fries, sandwitches and STROMBOLI'S!!

If you are in this area and looking for a great quick snack or a meal, get one of their stromboli's.

Overall the place was a great experience. Its not a suit and tie or collared shirt by no means but its definately acceptable to wear one if you feel the need to. Great laid back place to watch a game and grab a variety of beers. Very cheap compared with everywhere else in the area... premium crafts were ranging from 3 to 6 bucks and they even had german liters and half liters for some styles. They also offer pitchers.

thumbs up to Stuff Yer Face!!

I stopped in to SYF after a couple of pints at Harvest Moon. It's an easy one two punch if you happen to be in the area.

SYF is a college bar with a wide beer selection and excellent food. You can check out their beer menu online. I'll sum it up by saying that it's an extensive selection with little focus on unique local (or even regional) selections. The best I could do was a dark weinhestephan on tap. If you're seeking the extraordinary or unique, you're not going to find it here. If you want to revist some accessible classics, you'll find them here.

The food ranks among the finest bar food I've had. I pulled the trigger on the small meat-lovers Stromboli and it was heaven.

This is a great place to go if you're looking for a pint and good bar food or if you have a large group of (non-beer) people and satisfy your beer requirements.

Went here on a Saturday night. Place wasnt overly crowded, alot of ppl in the outside section of the restaurant. The one downside of this place was that there was no music at all to be found, on a saturday night after the dinner crowd, so we didnt stay here that long. They had about 20 beers on tap, about 5 seasonal summer beers. Had a pitcher of hop devil for $13, which i thought was a pretty reasonable price. They also have a pretty extensive bottle selection, belgiums, celebrator, dogfish, a few that i remember seeing. I heard the food here is good, but did not have a chance to eat here.

Stopped in for a beer and lunch with the wife (she had been there years before). Looks like a typical college bar with a nice patio for a spring day.

I got very excited to see that they had HopDevil on tap since I have not tried it but have heard good things about it. Unfortunately, they were out :( I settled for a Flying Fish Farmhouse (not impressed). They have a nice beer list, lots of bottles, but I would have liked to see a better selection on tap.

The stromboli was enough for two and was very reasonably priced ~$10. The service was not exceptional but was not bad either. I can see how this would be very popular with the kids, I wish there was something like this when I was in grad school.

Solid place, worth checking out if you are in the area, but not worth a pilgrimage.

After visiting Harvest Moon, I decided to walk the few blocks that are in between the 2 establishments. I forgot how many blocks there were, but I do know that I had to walk past the train station to get to it. To me, the part of the of the city that Stuff Yer Face is in, looks a bit run down. Anyway, after finding this place, I walk in and find out that it's just another bar. There was noting special about it. When I first noticed the taps, I quickly noticed that they had quite a few of them, but the vast majority of them were macros with a import and a craft beer here and there. The only thing I found on their tap that I might want to drink was Victory's "Hop Devil" and Ramstein's Winter Wheat. They were out of the Ramstein, so I went for the "Hop Devil." Their bottled selection was better. Inside their little black book are imports and crafts. The thing about that is the fact that most of those craft beers are just the brewery's basic offerings. Nothing out of the ordinary. Well, maybe they offer a few seasonals here and there. I do have to hand to them for offering at least 3 different Trappist breweries. That was the only thing that was a little bit different from just another average macro bar.

I did like the service they offered. Not only do they have a little black book that's filled with their bottled selection and their limited craft/ import tap list, but the bartender there was very fast getting all the drinks out on time. They were alwys there if you wanted another beer or your check.

In the end, it's just another neighborhood bar that has a limited amount of craft/import taps, but a nice little bottled list. One visit was more than enough for me.

While I was an undergraduate student back at the Rutgers New Brunswick campus, this was a popular destination for the college crowd and an overall popular site for hometown regulars... The atmosphere was very mom and pop, with a hometown feel... got the idea that many of the same crowd usually frequented this place that was pretty centrally located in the middle of a bustling college town... The quality was very good... the food menu was great with lots of different choices to choose from... What originally attracted me to this place was admittedly the catchy name, but the place lived up to its reputation as a good place to grab a bite to eat and have a drink... service and selection were about average... I came in at a busy time so our server was not as attentive as I would have liked... Food was really good and the place was pretty reasonable... overall, I enjoyed this place... Recommended...

Let's get one thing out of the way. This is a college bar. So you have to take the good with the bad. The wait staff know little about beer, but they are usually very attractive.

Atmosphere is good. The bar is on the smallish side but they do have an outdoor bar which is excellent in the summer. They also a dart board which is nice. Plenty of seating, but it still get crowded.

The service is ok. Don't expect to get much help ordering a beer, but they are really good at making sure your glass is full.

The selection is excellent. They tend to be weighted toward imports but they have a nice selection of microbrews also. Almost alway have Franziskaner Hefe weizen on tap. Since they are a college bar, they also have your typical macros. All beers are very reasonably priced.

The food is pretty good. They specialize in "bolis" which are a cross between stromboli and calzones. Interesting enough, Mario Bartoli, of food network fame, was a cook at Stuff Yer Face during his time at Rutgers. The sandwiches are usually overlooked but are great. The broccoli chedder bits are just awesome.

Food and beer are very reasonably priced. A must visit if you are in the New Brunswick area.

GO RU!!!

Ahh, this place is etched in my memories from college... but like so many other destinations in New Brunswick, this bar has a Dr. Jekyl/ Mr. Hyde character to it.

Yes, it is a college bar; it caters to a pretty young crowd, the wait staff is comprised of college students who do their best but know very little about beer (most probably can't drink legally yet).

If you know what beers you want to try (they have about 15 taps and over 70 in bottles), this place is great. If you have no idea what you want, you can always join their 99 Beer Club, and sample a little of everything they have. Upon completion, you get a shirt and a pint glass, plus a gift certificate (call it a refund check, since the cost of 99 beers can really add up).

They have a good selection, mostly Euro imports, and usually have two or three good beers (Spaten, Franziskaner, Hoegaarten, etc) on tap at any one time.

My suggestion is to visit this place twice: once on a weeknight during the summer; slowly sip your beer and try a stromboli, their signature dish; another time on a Friday night when a Rutgers football game is being broadcast on TV. It's the only way to see both sides of this great spot in central NJ.

A great local place that specializes strombolis, which are great. I've been several times and you can generally expect a college crowd. Service can be spotty. The bartenders seem to understand the correct pairing of glasses with beers, but when I'm sitting at a table I've been served without any glass a few times. A great bottled beer selection, but the drafts generally feature one or two "good" beers and the rest are typical BMC crap. Highly recommended if you'd like to have a fun night out or watch a game, but still enjoy a good beer.

I dropped into Stuff Yer Face today with some friends after happy hour at Harvest Moon.

Stuff Yer Face carries a fantastic variety of well priced bottled beers and always has at least a few good micros on tap.

I started off with a Stone IPA on tap, followed by a bottle of Anchor Porter. Regardless of the beer you order, they always have the right glass. Two of my friends ordered bottles of Ayinger Celebrator and were greeted with the Celebrator glasses.

The food is typical college bar food, specializing in strombolis. Prices are always pretty good.

It it a great place to go any day of the week, and is usually filled with a mix of college kids and families.

Wonderful little bar with a nice outdoor patio, which looks like a typical collegiate watering hole. The taps, and especially the coolers, immediately belie that premise on entry, however. There are over a dozen taps with half devoted to various east coast beers and quality European imports like Hacker-Pschorr and PU. Behind the bar is the true gem, 70 plus bottles, including Chimay, Orval, Westmalle, Sam Smith's, Ommegang, more nice Germans, lots of other East Coasters and many that I don't recall. A great boon is the fact that I've ALWAYS been served in the correct glass. Order an Aventinus - you've got the glass. Same for Schneider Weiss, PU, 3 Phils, etc. The worst experience I had here was to be served Young's DCS in a Sam Smith Nonic. Seriously, they work hard to provide a quality beer experience, despite the look of the place. The prices are fairly low, too.

Time to enter the way back machine...Stuff Yer Face is just off Rutgers University's main campus...my alma mater, sorta (skip long, boring story). First visit in 6 years...

The atmosphere is very casual. Color scheme is lotsa tans and browns, wood and tile. A lot of college-age kids, no surprise. Very kid and family friendly, overall. The ubiquitous screaming baby followed me on this visit...

Service was performed by attractive young students, one who did not give me a glass with my beer...grrrr. Friendly, nice to look at, nothing out of the ordinary.

The selection of beer was pretty decent, above average. 14 taps, about half devoted to good beer, with Franziskaner Weisse and Spaten Optimator being the best available choices. The bottle selection was much better, a wide variety of styles and nations. 70-75 bottles to choose from.

Quality was above average. I ordered two bottled beers, a Stoudt's Pils and a Troegs Double Bock, both were fresh. Stuff Yer Face also has a nice beer menu, which gets an A for effort and a B for accuracy....

The food is tasty, and recommended. The restaurant specializes in Strombolis, which are basically meat and/or veggies with cheese and sauce, wrapped in dough. Yummy. Other food is available as well...It's simple food for the simple person you are, or aspire to be.

Prices are excellent. I had a Boli combo (a small stromboli and soup), and two beers, the aforementioned Stoudt's and Troeg's...with tip, under $20. The beers are amazingly priced...taps run from $2.59 to $4.48, bottles from $2.83 to $7.55. No, I didn't make those numbers up...the establishment rounds off prices in odd, but wallet-friendly ways...

You're probably not going to have a great time if you're there just to savor the beer. But for an inexpensive, satisfying meal, accompanied by some quality beer, you could do a lot worse. Recommended.

**Stony's Biscuit** - The staff is young, attractive...and not really beer savvy at all. Know what you want, be specific, and don't expect a lot from the waitresses, and you'll be ok....

A great college hangout right in downtown New Brunswick. The place is relatively large considering the amount of seating they have inside (downstairs as well as upstairs). During the summer, they open up the patio and have a functioning bar there as well. The service has almost always been good with knowledgable bartenders and friendly servers. The food is terrific with a wide selection of entries and an assortment of strombolis, at very modest prices. The beer selection is good with a number of imports and micros on-tap and a good bottled beer selection. Overall, this is one of my favorite places to have a bite to eat and a beer in New Brunswick.

If you're in New Brunswick you have to stop here and get the Potachos. Best damn appetizer Ive ever had in my life. Seriously worth going for this alone.

The drink selection here is great, had some Ruddles County which I never see anywhere and they had the Storm King Stout. They usually have everything in stock and they sell beer to go at the bar.

The atmosphere is actually a cool place to gather some friends if a bar is too loud for you. Great place to get bombed for cheap, all beers under 6 bucks.

Although the selection isnt massive, they know beer here. They have a beer tasting club that meets every week and outdoor seating on the weekends. The waitresses arent bad to look at either.

I’ve been going to this place for over a year now and I have to say that it is my favorite bar in my college town of New Brunswick (I go to Rutgers U.). That isn’t saying too much though, most of the other bars in the area are geared towards the college crowd and, as such, their beer selections are often fairly limited and their craft beer selections are frequently non-existent. But not with Stuff Yer Face: the first time I was in there I was immediately taken by how much they had to offer (again, remember, I had up until this point only dealt with college bars). They have around 10 or so beers on tap and although many are the familiar macros (Bud, Coors, etc.) they still carry a few good year-round beers and some seasonal specialties. There bottled selection, on the other hand, is more impressive: most of the brews there are craft beers and the selection is well-balanced between foreign and domestic. One thing that sticks out about their selection is the variety of Belgian and Belgian-style beers available: they have quite a few Trappist ales on hand, some other Belgian beers, and some American brewed Belgian styles. Overall, it’s a pretty good selection of many different styles of beers. They have one of those fun little beer-programs, “The Beer Club,” where you try 70 different beers and you get a shirt and $50 in gift-certificates (I’ve done this Club thing and the shirt is of a surprisingly good quality, but I did it for the fun of it). They also have “Beer Samplings” where you and a friend can try a couple different beers (usually of a particular style) for a cheaper overall price than buying them separately. Furthermore, the bar is more beer-oriented in a lot of other ways too: most of the signs and decorations are related to beer (rather than a lot of liquor decorations, like you’ll find in most of the bars around here), the beer menu is divided into different styles with descriptions of those styles included, and they sometimes have interesting beer related events (Oktoberfest Night was notable).
The food and service aren’t amazing, but they’re pretty good: while the waitresses, bartenders, etc., are all very friendly and accommodating, the place sometimes gets busy enough to where they can overlook you for a little while (but never too long). Most of the food is pretty tasty but its nothing to write home about. The menu consists mostly of Bolis (which are generally pretty good) along with pizza, burgers, salads, sandwiches, different appetizers, etc. Some of the tables and whatnot are a bit run-down. The prices are pretty reasonable, though.
Like I said, this is one of my favorite places. The atmosphere is usually pretty nice: its quiet enough during happy-hour to finish up work for classes (trust me, I know) or have a quiet discussion with friends, but active enough during the later hours to be a fun place to grab a brew and a bite to eat. Mostly though it’s the place to go if you just want out hang out with your friends, chat, and drink good beer for a couple hours. If you are in town, and are looking for a place with a more-than-decent craft beer selection, Stuff Yer Face is the place for you.

I went here on a Saturday evening, and the place was crowded. Mainly students, mostly watching a football game on the TVs, and some families too. The bar is straight ahead to the right when you walk in, and there are a few tables opposite it. There are a couple more dining rooms, and an upstairs room that I didn't see. An outside area is open when it's warmer.

The beer selection is above average, but nothing special. There are about 12 taps, and they seem to have gotten worse recently. I remember coming here a while ago and having Lachouffe on tap, but now it's Bass, Guiness, Yuengling, Stella, #9, Hoegaarden, Franziskaner, and a few taps of utter crap. I believe they have the same beers on tap all the time. The bottle menu is better. About 70 bottles, 2/3 of them good. The menu is divided into lagers, pale ales, stouts, IPA, Belgian, etc. I went with a Samuel Smith Nut Brown and a Three Philosophers. A couple times I have ordered a beer from the menu that was not actually in stock.

The food here is average. They have pizza, bolis, burgers, sandwiches, salads. I had a chicked sandwich, and it worked fine. The service, however, was pretty bad. Our waitress seemed to be busy in one of the other rooms, and only occasionally stopped by to see us.

This is a decent place for beer, but not as good as Harvest Moon or Old Bay, which are nearby.

Stuff Yer Face in New Brunswick is just a college bar masquerading as a pizza joint! The 11 taps are good, I'll give them that; but everything else is a mess. The service is "good" at best, and the food is mediochre. But it's cheap, which is a plus. The wooden floor, nice bar, beer neons, beer signs, beer banners, American darts... American darts... yes... , mainstream jukebox, and comfortable tables give it a homey feel but that's just not enough to allow a beer advocate from out of town to stop in and feel welcome unless he's in college himself. It's an interesting place but it can't possibly compare to the great beers on tap at the Old Bay Restaurant and Harvest Moon Brewpub just 5 blocks away. But one solitary plus is that both Harvest Moon and the Old Bay charge a cover on weekend nights for their music, while Stuff Yer Face just doesn't have any room to fit a band!

I don't know how I forgot about this one. Many thanks to Mick for adding it.

Right in the middle of the New Brunswick/Rutgers bar scene, this place was a refreshing change from the nearby dives. It still is a college crowd, though. Great selection for a college bar with some interesting and rotating draught selections. Also some nice bottled beer choices to keep thing interesting. I used to go here often with friends for a good beer.

Food is on par with what would be expected from Friday's or Applebee's. Don't be sucked in by their "Bolis", they are not even close to real strombolis. On the plus side, the Food Network's "Molto" Mario Batali did cook at the original New Brunswick location during his schooling at Rutgers.

I've known about Stuff Yer Face for years but never went to the New Brunswick location. It is located in the pub crawl section of town. However, I recently was led by a friend to this place for something to eat and was pleasantly suprised by the beer offerings. 1liter mugs, nice selection of bottles. An above average variety. Great prices. Outdoor garden area. Specials on fest and other types of beers.

01/06/03 (Add-on) A really good selection of beers. Each season there are new offereings. A ver nice offering year round. Really great service. This place cares about beer and it shows. time and time again I'm satisfied with my visit to this place. I recommend this place be added to anyones visit to New Brunswick, NJ. Rivals the other great beer bars in the area!
