Visited on 10/10/12. GABF Week. (Stop #7 of the day)
*** 100th Place Review***

A: The atmosphere of the place is a little more upscale and somewhat stuffy. The place is very nice but doesn't scream beer bar where you would go to watch a game.

Q: A solid selection of CO beers and all were really decent, no dogs or BMC crap.

S: A server was very friendly, answered beer questions with relative ease and prompt...handled our party of 8 very well.

S: 100 craft beers from all over Colorado (except for Lost Abbey Mo Betta Bretta)...best selection I have seen a long time.

F: Food was decent as no one had any complaints, higher quality than most beer bars you go to...even the pizzas were mades with very fresh ingredients.

V: The beers and food were a little pricy as that everything tended to be a buck or two higher here than anywhere else we had been earlier that day (and even for the same beers in some cases).

Overall, a nice finish to the day and a place to check out if you are looking for something a little more quiet and upscale....but not a place you hang out with the guys to watch a game place.

A nice place to grab a drink. The atmosphere is kinda stale and polished but not bad or offensive. If the servers were more beer geeks and less generic college students, that would go a long way in improving the vibe here, imo. The beer selection is awesome though and certainly makes up for any shortcoming in atmosphere. Tons and tons of beers on tap, lots of great choices.. Service was fine on this slow weekday lunch trip though I could see during a busy rush things being slow and choppy. I didn't get that though. Food here is definitely decent, wouldn't go here for the food but also wouldn't feel the need to eat elsewhere beforehand. Overall, a a very nice place to go if the focus is solely on the beer. I will be back and I look forward to it.

Now that they've been open a year, it's time for a re-review.

I no longer patronize the mayor. Over the last year or so, the quality of service has taken a dive. Last few trips in, it took nearly 20 minutes to get beer to the table. Considered ordering my next beer as the first was delivered.

Servers make educated choices, but not great ones. Sometimes it's downright impossible to flag a server down.

Selection is still mostly good. Some breweries have gone missing, such as Russian River (there's a story behind it.) Limited releases at the mayor are becoming more and more scarce.

Crowd is less and less beer people, and more the frat pack crowd. Room is still terribly noisy, and any day of the week after work will require yelling to communicate. Still very much a sterile clean room, for better or worse.

They do a good job keeping beer fresh and cool. Pricing is all over the place, but never truly unreasonable. No complaints in this department.

The owner I simply can't deal with. Between getting into playboy, and the aforementioned distribution issues, it seems that he has enough money to throw around that he won't miss me. I still wish him the best. A lot of people still like this place.

I have been in a couple of times now, and i just can't get into this place.

The selection of beers is great, sure, but if you are not already an expert it is overwhelming. Also do not go if you are on any kind of budget unless you want to be the guy who is advertising they are on a budget by asking the price every single time you order.

I thought some of the prices were pretty high for what you got. Do not order a cocktail here.
Supposedly there is a printed price list somewhere, but I never got to see one.

I found the seating to be generally awkward with short tables too close to tall tables so you end up with a butt in your face or your butt in someone else's face most of the time. The wait staff is attractive. I don't care for the lighting.

The thing that really bothered me was the inconsistency. A couple of people at our table ordered the exact same beer about 1 hour apart. The first beer came and was in a balloon glass or some other fancy glass and was sold at one price, the second time the same beer came in a different glass, which seemed significantly smaller, and was more expensive.
A similar thing happened on another visit as well, a beer coming in a pint one time and a pilsner glass another time.

Thanks to Red Table, the food is good and it is affordable and has good portions.

I can get so many of the beers locally at the source or at better bars, it seems silly to go into an uncomfortable atmosphere to try to enjoy one.

Along with Odell and New Belgium, this was a must stop place on my 24 hour stay in Fort Collins. It was pretty crowded for an early afternoon but we managed to snag a couple seats at the long bar. I was a bit surprised to find that they were checking IDs at the door so early in the day, but I guess with the close proximity to Colorado State this might be a necessity. The place has a pretty sleek/modern/trendy feel, but they definitely know their beer. The selection is huge with plenty of Colorado brews, a few odd imports, and a well-picked selection of west coast beers (Russian River, The Bruery, etc.). Beer is fresh, prices are reasonable. The only food I had was a pretzel to soak up some of the booze, which was also quality. The rest of the menu sounded awesome. Worth a stop.

The Mayor is a nice place. The beer selection is extensive with 100 beers on tap. They frequently have beers that are hard to find elsewhere. However, it's kind of like cable TV- 100 channels and nothing on. I find that sometimes they don't have anything that I want. The servers are generally friendly and somewhat knowledgeable. They are a little too reluctant to provide samples of beers- after all, they have a lot of beers that most people have never tasted before. The problem is that when you are paying $8 for a beer, you don't want to get stuck with one that you don't like. We ordered sandwiches and they were very tasty and reasonably priced. But the beers are very pricey and there is NEVER A HAPPY HOUR- EVER. Most beers are $6 for a pint but double IPAs and other higher ABV beers are $8 for an 8- ounce glass. I just cannot afford to visit this place often- particularly when there are so many other bars in Fort Collins with a good selection and $2-3 pints.

Great place! Nice beer selection that is always rotating to bring in different beers from all over. Atmosphere is calm with little for decorations, but it fits the mood they are going for. Drinks are a bit pricy, but worth it for most of the brews... Plus, it keeps out the party crowd since its adjacent to a major college. Despite being across the street from the campus, the crowd is mixed and never loud/crazy as you would find at a "college bar". The wait staff is very knowledgeable about their products considering the rate in which they rotate new beers, showing that they must go through a training course and have to try a large number of them if not all. This place is doing great things for the culture in this beer mecca!

Finally got to try this place today along the way of our brewery tour. First thing that stood out was the railway running along the middle of road. Kinda cool.

Old looking exterior...like a 60s Denny's or something. Inside is more modern, a bit sterile and "clean". Nothing wrong with that.
Tables and booths. An upstairs section, not all that big, but I didn't venture up yonder.
Place had just opened, few people. Service was friendly as we sat at the bar. Knowledgeable about beer, that helps.
100 taps along the wall, plus some bottles. Projection of beer menu above the bar. Easy to read. Listed left to right, light to dark. Nitro on the far end.
We had simple food; sammiches. They were good, perhaps a squidge expensive, but nothing to bitch about.
Selection was quite diverse, mostly domestic micros with some internationals.

Overall a great place. Would like to back in the Spring during some busy hours.

Went to this place on a business trip as suggested by some friends... glad I did. The selection is great... 100 beers on draft that rotate regularly. The menus print out daily with changes, so there is no need to ask what's "seasonal" or special. There is also a projector above the bar that shows the real-time beer list, which includes icons and highlighted beers that won awards. Occasionally have rare beer release parties as well from local and other well known breweries. I guess my only knock on the beer selection would be that they only have one or two offerings from each brewery, sometimes only having some of the more mediocre beers. The service was good and they use appropriate glassware for each beer. Flights are a generous portion for a low price. The food is good, as long as you are only interested in a sandwich, breakfast or pizza... otherwise you're SOL.

Stopped by in between lunch at Big City Burrito and dinner at Pizza Casbah.

I was fairly pumped up to visit this place do to incessant talking up by my brother in law. Walked in and was greeted by a aseptic looking industrial feeling bar. Not much on the walls, and really, not much character. It was fairly dead so we had a pick of seats. The first place we sat, we ended up having to move because the sun was making it impossible to see the projectors that constantly update the tap list. We moved to a table closer to the bar that allowed us to see what was on tap. Even though it was fairly dead, and their were a couple waitresses we had to wait a bit to be served. After a conversation with the waitress about beer and from being form out of town, it seemed like out service greatly improved. The tap list was good. They had several beers that I hadn't had on tap before which is fantastic. Overall, I just didn't get the vibe of the place. They had a great tap list but I would rather go somewhere that had a better vibe. Also, with all the great local breweries, I find it hard for a beer bar not to have a good beer bar. Your surrounded by good beer.
