This is one of the worst beers I've ever had. I don't know what went wrong here, it was a complete miss. I drank so little of it the bartender asked me what was wrong with it, "It tastes like someone poured their whiskey sour into a sink full of dirty dishes" he laughed and took the nearly full snifter away to pour it down the drain for me.
Served on cask at Churchkey in a snifter. Beer is amber and mostly clear, no carbonation, no head, no lacing.
Aroma is sweet and whiskey like.
Beer is thin and dry, really dry, flat, sweet, whiskey water with a soapy aftertaste. Danger, danger, avoid avoid avoid.
Not everything gets better by putting it into a barrel, next time you are thinking about doing such a stupid thing Schmaltz ask yourself this, "Is this a fruit beer that will taste like shit after I do this?" If the answer is "Probably" or "likely" or "Yes" don't do it. I am unimpressed. Very unimpressed.

Had a glass on tap at HopCat in Grand Rapids, MI. I was drawn to trying this beer based on the uniqueness of the pomegranate. The beer was good, but if I had been given a glass without knowing the name, I would not have had any idea that it was a fruit beer.
After 25% of the glass was gone, I very slightly began to detect the meager possibility of there being pomegranate in the beer. The SLIGHT fruit detection was right at the beginning of each sip.
I enjoyed the beer, but if you are expecting a fruity pomegranate taste, you will not find it here. It actually reminded me of a really good Amber Ale.

The beer pours an amber/orangish color with a thick frothy off-white head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is decent. It has a tart fruit scent that's quite assertive. The barrel aging adds a light oak character, but the overall aroma is still fruit. The taste is decent as well. It's basically a sour tasting beer with some light oak character. It's smooth and easy drinking with a real tart finish. The mouthfeel is average. It's a medium/full bodied beer with a little less than adequate carbonation. This is a unique tasting beer, but nothing I'd search out again.

Cask aged on Sazerac Rye Barrels at Churckey DC for #DCBW11
Light brown pour, sort of see through, without head. Sweet smell filled with fruits, mostly pomegranate. Wow, the taste has a big hit of alcohol. Fruits , whiskey. Strong. Nicely carbonated. medium bodied, boozy. This was way too strong. Expected more balanced taste.

Pours a clear copper orange with a very small off white head that dissipates quickly into a thin ring, with light lacing.
Aroma of oak , tart apples, malt and a hint of alcohol.
Taste is very tart with a trace of pomegranate, with an oak ending leaving a slight bitter after taste.
Mouthfeel is medium body with moderate carbonation, very crisp and tart with a slight alcohol warming from the 8% ABV.
Overall the pomegranate did not have a strong presence, not saying that was bad, just a little surprising. This is a middle of the road ale with a nice tart bite.
