Menacing yet appealing opaque black body in appearance, however reveals a mahogany cola-like garnet highlight when held to direct light. Impressive tall creamy tan head with a retention that slowly recedes to a thick creamy, frothy cap.
Fruity sweet aroma possessing grapes, ripe cherries, plums and fresh dates. Light cocoa, mild roasted malt and some treacle in the background. Some green grassy, vegetable hops deep in the background, fresh and a bit vinous.
Creamy, roasty, toasty cocoa malt up front in the flavour, plum and grapes in the middle, treacle and creamy chocolate in the finish, some smooth roasted malt pops up in the aftertaste along with some lingering burnt and smoky notes, even some earthiness after a while.
Full-bodied but not thick or chewy, very smooth, velvety, rounded mouthfeel, a little bit sticky on the finish, yet then turns somewhat slick and oily, although the stickiness wins out in the end with a light coating on the palate.
Hell yeah, one of the most enjoyable, unique and highly drinkable Russian Imperial Stouts I've ever had, especially at 13%. No alcohol warmth or bite whatsoever (well, just a little bit of warmth, but it's camouflaged well), yet still incredibly smooth, in both mouthfeel and flavour, everything is rounded but full. 13 *is* lucky, especially for this RIS, and for the most part as covered in the rambling, nearly stream-of-conscious blurb on the side of the label (I swear they're trying to compete with Lagunitas). Kudos to He'Brew for their Bar Mitzvah offering, I'm definitely getting them pleated navy slacks for this one. Screw it, they deserve a Blackberry or an Xbox...

12oz. bottle from the 2011 Holiday Pack.
(A)- Pours a fairly dark brown, almost black color. Some tan froth.
(S)- A rich but deep malt profile with bits of raisin.
(T)- A good dense roasted grains component with raisin and molasses. Subtle bits of cocoa.
(M)- A good carbonation level and balance. A good roasted bit near the end. A smooth feel to it despite the hefty ABV.
(O)- Overall, a solid strong ale that is quite drinkable despite its strength.

12 oz bottle, from the 2010 Vertical Boxset.
appears a very dark brown color, off-white head that fades to nothing. aroma of plum, fig, tobacco, spiced rum. similar flavors in the taste. complex and blended taste. medium to thick body, lower carbonation.
overall - they added one more grain and one more hop, but it's still very similar to Jewbelation 11 and 12.

Opaque brown-black with a thin ring of light brown foam.
Sherry, raisins and other dark dried fruits, a touch of roast and nuttiness, a light earthiness as well.
Restrained roast, then the earthiness, lots of dried fruit and sherry, and then a dry dark chocolate finish. Perhaps the driest of the series so far.
Pretty heavy-bodied despite the dryness, low carbonation.
A slow sipper, but well done. Would go nicely with a cigar or the right cheese. Has a lot of subtle notes if you're willing to take the time to look for them.

Review from 1/2011 notes. Bottle from the 2011 Holiday Gift Pack. Poured into a He'brew small shaker pint. Pours very dark brown amber, appearing black with thin brown head and little lacing. Aroma of molasses, dark malt and alcohol. Dark fruit, dark malts, molasses and booze, finishes hot with dark fruits and malt. I'd age this one if they were available. Nicely done.

22oz bottle poured into a snifter.
Forgot that I had this beer which I picked up a while ago and finally got around to trying this evening. Pours a dark reddish brown with a very thin amount of head.
Smell is of alcohol, malt, and caramel however the alcohol vastly over powers the other scents.
Taste is a burning boozy alcohol. I get some chocolate/coffee on the after taste. I would have though this beer may have died down some after a few years, but that is not the case here.
12oz of this would have sufficed, but 22oz was a little hard to get down given the overly powerful booze scent and taste with this one.
